I commend @Wolffy84 for putting up his hand to volunteer to leave the competition. I'd like to put forward a motion to dissolve christmas island and go forward with a 16 team competition. Three likes and we head to the vote if this passes then a vote will be motioned as to who the other team may be.
Thanks for the support guys, in particular @fresh and @HOLKY. Can't put a price on integrity. I did write a response to this nonsense on the poll thread but unsurprisingly it was deleted. I saved it in anticipation so I could repost but I won't bother. There's a lot of different types of people in this world and most of them are well-meaning, but as I get older I become clearer on the ones that aren't worth interacting with.
My 2 bobs worth.......I'm one of the 8 Coaches who voted against this proposal. Yes I would like to see ORFFU run a 16 team Comp. but not at the expense of one of our current Coaches. It would appear Damo won't be suiting up for 2026 and IF that's the case, then maybe we go with a 17 team Comp, which will have every team cop a Bye. With the number of byes the AFL is dishing up, one more shouldn't hurt. We do this on the proviso that when the next Coach pulls the pin voluntarily and we drop to 16 teams, then we don't replace his team and we run a 16 team Comp.
Sounds like we need a vote on do we run with an 18, 17 or 16 team comp. As much as I appreciate Wolffy putting his hand up, I'm assuming he'd prefer to stay in the league. If the preference is a 16 team comp then imo either his resignation is accepted or every team in the league is put on the same level playing field and is up for disbandment. I don't know what that would look like but a couple of ideas are a poll listing every team to vote on who goes or drawing straws (https://drawtheshortstraw.com)
I'll put forth that we go with a 18 team comp and find a guy to take over for Damo. Because structurally speaking, the Smugglers are only a good draft away from being functional. Not top level by any regard. But if someone drafts smart, using picks on existing players and possibly throwing a trade to get some depth, this side can run.
If we need another coach I have a good mate that may be interested. I can ask the question for pre-positioning.
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the CIS issue would’ve been wrapped up ages ago. I hate having these loose ends dangling — especially when I can’t actually make the final call. Drives me up the wall — it’s like sitting on the bench all game waiting to be rotated on, but the coach pretends you don’t exist.
If this option is still in play I'm happy to take on another team, but totally understand if you want someone new also.
I think I need to understand what the number of teams means for the league. How different do finals look if we run with 17 instead of 18? What happens when Tassie joins, can we play 17 games and finals at that stage? I like trying to keep it as close to the real thing as possible so would vote for whichever number preserves the home and away season and finals, even if it means sacrificing finals for a year or two by having 18 teams, to get them back in the future
This is how I see it.....for 2026... Can't play 16 cause that means forcing 1 team out....I for one am against that... If we play 18,don't think we can play finals.....1st past the post wins If we play 17, I think we're able to play top 4 (2 rounds).......could be wrong on this and too much alcohol to check it now... And as far as Tassie coming in, who knows how the AFL will stuff the fixturing up, but guaranteed they'll give it their best shot.
