Full Time at the Eden Sporting Complex and it's Plovers 1056, Crocs 1213. For the positives, we got the 1000, also Chandler got a vote. Crocs got 4 players over 100, with Sheezel leading the way with 141. Their backline was good with Wilkie and McGrath both getting the 100+. In the wildcard ruck matchup, Chapman got the win after 2 losses earlier. Next week Plovers are off to Junee whilst Cow Bay face Groote Eyelandt. Full time at the Goldfields and late outs have completely screwed over the home side. The Ever-reliable Coolgardie defence was a real disappointment this week, with Worrell and Short performing well, while Sicily and Wanganeen-Milera have a lot to answer for. For the boys from Ararat, Blakey and Ryan were having a field day, while McDonald did very well, with only the ever-reliable Stewart being un-reliable! Ararat won the line by 41 points. The midfield was a tight tussle, with no player from either team really standing up and taking the game on. Serong and Miller performed well enough for the locals, while Sanders did likewise for the visitors. There will be some anger pointed towards Bruhn, Thomas, Brayshaw, and Pillipou, who were all below average. Coolgardie won the line by 97 points The rucks was all one-way traffic, with the experienced Jackson schooling McAndrew in the art of rucking (and getting some dodgy free kicks paid right infront of goals, but I'm not bitter!), easily winning the big tap contest. The forward lines for both sides was an absolute nightmare. Two scores over 70 (Wright for the locals, Higgins for the visitors), while Waterman ran around in the magoos scoring at will. I can't speak for the Ararat coach, but the whip will be cracking at Coolgardie training this week! Coolgardie won the line by 42 points. ...and the interchange was the difference, with team announcements meaning that the Coolgardie coach was left deceived by the lies published prior to lockout by the AFL, and ended up playing a man down. Aliir was no match for Humphries and Edwards, being belted by 118 points, and giving Ararat the win in a low-scoring slug-fest. What should have been a spectacle of high-scoring and high-skills by the top two sides on the ladder going into the round, turned out to be a huge disappointment, with only the Ararat coach seen smiling after the match, simply because he knew his side had escaped with the win. @ron swanson Round 6 was a roller coaster ride for the home fans as they settled in for the last of a month long home stretch. Standing in the way of Serengeti taking the W and getting the ledger back to .500 was a young and improving Cormorants outfit that was welcoming back Christian Petracca and riding high on their plethora of young talent in the likes of Farrow, WAshcroft, Wardlaw, Reid & Rachele. The roller coaster launched into action with the peaks of Smith (151), Cameron (160) and Merrett (150) completely dominating their younger opponents but those climbs were countered with some stomach turning dips provided by Ridley (28), Taylor (32) and O'Sullivan (34). Unfortunately for the home side, along with highs of youth will inevitably come inconsistency and this was a week a lot of the youngsters were down together. Petracca (105) led from the front and did all he could on his return but he had too little support with Tauru deciding he wouldn't even turn up and Sheldrick only half committed. @ddsaints The Graveyard Match Report Nuytsland Vikings 1169 def. by Pakenham Parasites 1259 Match Summary – “So Close You Could Smell It” A much-improved showing from the Nuytsland Vikings at The Graveyard, but the Pakenham Parasites lived up to their name—hung around, latched on, and drained the life out late. This one was tighter than the margin suggests. The Vikings had their chances… but a few key moments (and a few big names going bang for the Parasites) proved the difference. Defenders – Holding the Line (Mostly) Nic Newman made a new man of himself down back, steady all day with 76. Wil Powell kept things powered up with 87, while Lachlan Cowan wasn’t cowed under pressure with 74. Karl Worner? Probably worn down a bit, but still battled for his 47. But then there was Jack Sinclair… and he made the Vikings defenders look like they’d signed a lease in his pocket. 119 points of pure control. Midfield – Butters Melts the Vikings Harvey Langford went long and strong with 116, while Chad Warner was switched on with 95 and Hayden Young showed he’s not just the future—he’s the now (88). But then… Zak Butters. And he absolutely melted the Vikings. 154 points of midfield destruction—spread it on toast, game over. Darcy Wilson kept things well in line with 95, and the Parasites midfield just had too much polish. Ruck – No Sweet Treat Jordan Sweet tried to dish something up, but there were no chocolates today. Rowan Marshall marched straight over him with 118, giving the Parasites first use all afternoon. And when you’re always second to the footy, you’re usually second on the scoreboard too. Forwards – Amiss Didn’t Miss This is where the Vikings nearly pinched it. Jye Amiss… didn’t miss. 112 points and the focal point up forward. Lachie Schultz pulled the trigger for 54, while Sam Draper stitched together 57. Harry McKay chipped in, but probably wanted a bit McMore than 48. The Vikings forwards fired—but the Parasites just had enough answers, led by Murphy Reid who read the play perfectly for 96. Interchange – Impact Players Deliver Bailey Humphrey brought the strength (78), and Hugo Garcia said gracias with a solid 100. But the Parasites’ depth stung—Mark Blicavs was everywhere (93), and Calsher Dear was very dear to their chances with a big 104. That extra punch off the bench proved crucial. Final Word – “Close, But No Burial” The Vikings brought the fight—and for large parts, looked like they might bury the Parasites at The Graveyard. But Butters melted them, Marshall marched over them, and in the end, the Parasites fed just enough to walk away with it. Looking Ahead Plenty to like here. If Amiss keeps not missing, Langford keeps going long, and Sweet can find some chocolates… the Vikings won’t be stuck in The Graveyard for long. Next time, it might be the opposition getting buried
Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,123 def Junee Beagles 819 Hughenden controlled the game from the start defeating a 14 man team that lacked any type of spark all day. Young ruck Emmett (56) provided some opposition to Pittonet (83) which was enough to help Hughenden control the centre with Oliver (128) back to his best, Yeo (94) starting to build following his injury and Nash (91) the new recruit getting the job done. The Beagle’s Laverde (96) did his best but he couldn’t inspire his teammates to lift. Hughenden’s consistency we the key with the backline led by Battle (96) smothering the Beagles forwards who looked flat with only Curnow (70) putting his hand up. Hughenden remain in the top 8 but will need to improve to retain this spot. Playing the Parasites who sit 1 win outside of the 8 with a superior percentage. The Beagles are back home taking on a struggling Plover outfit with both teams hoping for improvement and a much-needed win. Bulls 1231 def Monarchs 1119 @Tylo For the 4th time in 6 rounds writ up below: It was only round 6 but this was a crucial match up for the 2 teams, the Bulls looking to cement a top 4 spot and the Monarchs looking to make it 3 on the trot and stay in touch with the top 8. The Monarchs midfield and defense was up and about win 4 ton's but couldn't go head to head with the Bulls who pumped out 6 ton's on the day. 8 sub 65 scores put paid to any resistance for King Island. Up next the Bulls hit the road in a top of the table clash against the Armadillos whilst the Monarchs will continue the road trip this time to Horsham. Bunyips 1200 Def by Blowflys 1303 As always, another great battle against the Blowflys @Mick. Unfortunately for the homeside, VC Dawson was unavailable due to personal reasons and the coach not having a decent back up plan in the mids, we were always going to be up against it. Doesn't help with Silvagni shitting the bed for 12 points, but even worse for the visitors was Sam Banks 2. Ex Bunyip Laird was eager to show why he should never have been traded with an even 100, but almost every visiting player (other than Banks) scored over their average.
