ORFFA Round 10 (AFL Round 13) - Bring Out Your Dead Round As is tradition here in the ORFFA, the round immediately prior to the MSD is marked by a series of rather large Grim Reapers (or, where needed, well dressed Plague Doctors), gently traversing the ORFFA landscape and readying themselves to quietly convince several players to remove themselves from their teams and return to the draft pool. May the delisting decisions be well considered, and may the draft pool be warm and calm. Cradle Mountain Devils Round 10 team Out: N Vlastuin (managed), T Greene (managed), J Hopper (managed) In: T English, R Maric, J Jordon Def: J Battle, R Laird, R Ginbey, R Maric (F Macrae OOP) Mid: J Steele, S Pendlebury, J De Goey, D Wilson (C Moraes) Ruc: T English Fwd: E Langdon, R Marshall, L Schultz, S Mannagh (C Nairn) Inter: A Naughton, J Jordon (J Dalton) Due to injuries and players being managed nine Devils players are unavailable for the club’s Round 10 game against @anthak’s Gariwerd Cockatoos. With an experienced squad Cradle Mountain are still able to name a 15 player team without any out of position players or donuts. The trio from the Devils Round 9 victory that are being managed are defender Nick Vlastuin, forward/midfielder Toby Greene and midfielder Jacob Hopper. Ruck Tim English returns from concussion protocols and will be handed the captain’s armband for the second time in 2026, on both occasions fellow ruck and team captain Toby Nankervis was injured and acting captain Greene was managed. Defender/midfielder Ryan Maric and forward/midfielder are the other two additions to the team. Before the first batch of dual player position additions for 2026 the Devils had a record of one win and two losses after Round 3. The DPP additions including Toby Greene becoming a fwd/mid (previously fwd) and Peter Wright (previously fwd) and Rowan Marshall (previously ruck) both becoming a fwd/ruc coincided with CMD’s form improving. Cradle Mountain thrived with greater position flexibility to go on a six game winning streak from Round 4 to Round 9. Cradle Mountain may have gone a bit overboard with DPP designations as after the second batch of 2026 DPP additions at the conclusion of ORFFA Round 9 the club had 13 DPP’s. Cradle Mountain’s 13 DPP’s are comprised of nine fwd/mids, two def/mids and two fwd/rucks. 179 of the 806 players in the ORFFA player pool are DPP’s which is 22.2%. Cradle Mountain’s DPP ratio of 46.4% is just over double this. Six of the 14 Devils players averaging 75+ SC points per game are DPP’s with improved fwd/mid trio Darcy Wilson, Jordan De Goey and Ed Langdon joining DPP additions Wright, Greene and Marshall in this category. 20 of the 28 players (71.4%) on CMD’s list are eligible to play in the midfield and/or forward line. The only eight players not in this category are six pure defenders and pure ruck duo Nankervis and English. Throughout much of the ORFFA’s first 15 seasons from 2012 to 2026 my Cradle Mountain Devils and @anthak’s Gariwerd Cockatoos have been in a similar position on the ladder. This has ranged from the early days of competing for the mediocrity cup to succeeding each other as premiers, Devils in 2021 followed by the Cockatoos in 2022. This season the Cockatoos and Devils are jostling to be towards the front of the chasing pack behind the ORFFA’s two dominant undefeated clubs - @Bandit’s Charlies Opening Spelunkers and @snoz’s Gundagai Grasshoppers. In terms of the two different metrics it is a split decision as to who is having the better 2026 season out of the Gariwerd Cockatoos and Cradle Mountain. In terms of head-to-head match play the Devils have fared better to be third on the ladder with seven wins and two losses whilst the Cockatoos are fifth on the ladder with five wins and four losses. In terms of points for Gariwerd have the advantage by 37.1 points, ranking third with 1,258.8 points to the Devils 1,221.7 to be in fourth position in this category. Gariwerd at home and closer to full strength go in as favourites for their Round 10 contest against the Devils. Nice preview! I assume you mean that Gariwerd are going in as favourites, and you might be right, but we’ve already lost games this season that we probably should’ve won, and there’s not much between our teams (as usual). I’m looking forward to the hitout, it should be a close one!
Yes I meant Gariwerd, now corrected. CMD have been on the flipside to the Cockatoos and won several close games this season which has enabled them to be higher than GC on the ladder. The respective D2's Rory Laird for Cradle Mountan and Jake Bowey for Gariwerd get to play against a former team, having been involved in a trade for each other including draft picks a couple of years back. @anthak you did a very good job picking Bowey as the Devils player to go to the Cockatoos in that deal with him averaging 90+ in 2025.
The byes cannot come quick enough for the cows as injuries mount. Guess we are not the only team in that position. Team to host @Lenny120 's WWW - D - Nic Newman, Connor O'Sullivan (106), Jaspa Fletcher (51), Trent Rivers M - Josh Dunkley (97), Zac Bailey (95), Josh Ward (100), Will Graham (34) R - Max Heath F - Josh Treacy (89), Shannon Neale (56), Logan Morris (163), Murphy Reid (120) I - Neil Eramsus (140), Mitch Owens Unavailable - James Trezise (bye) and the normally playing but currently injured Kiddy Coleman, Bailey Williams, Matt Johnson, Zac Johnson, Tom Papley edit - updated Sunday am. Finally, some good form - 1051 with 11 played. Heath is unlikely so that's probably 12 played.
This is how the Cockies are lining up: Gariwerd Cockatoos Out: Kane Farrell. In: Francis Evans. (and the bye last week came at a good time for Sam Durham who was concussed in our last game but is good to play this weekend) DEF: Max Holmes, Jake Bowey, Blake Hardwick, Isaac Quaynor (Koltyn Tholstrup) MID: Noah Anderson, Touk Miller, Willem Drew, Nathan O'Driscoll (Esava Ratugolea -oop) RUCK: Lachlan McAndrew FWD: Justin McInerney, Kade Chandler, Sam Draper, Francis Evans (Ben King) INT: Riley Bice, Sam Durham (Latrelle Pickett)
Progress Round 10 score Gariwerd Cockatoos 695/8 Average 86.9 lead Cradle Mountain Devils 467/7 Average 66.7 For the first half of the Cockatoos vs Devils games the more accurate indicator of form was points for in the season to date rather than ladder position. @anthak’s fifth placed Cockatoos are well and truly on track to get the victory to consolidate their top six position and be one win behind the third placed Devils who have an inferior points for.
