It is mid-winter (checks calendar), and the finely manicured grass on the oval glistens with a layer of frost in the early morning rays of sunshine. Magpies calls to each other from atop the stand, and spectators line the boundary and the steps of the outer in anticipation.

And also there is a muddy gluepot in the centre, pools of standing water in each forward pocket and always the cold cold feet no matter how many pairs of socks you wear.

Hopeful of a nice shiny coffee cart doling out portions of liquid warmth that I can purchase for a reasonable price.

May your midwinter blues be calmed by coffee (or other beverages) and good people.

The Devils are fourth on the ladder after Round 12 with eight wins and four losses and have a Round 13 away game against @Len’s sixth placed Jaguars who are one of four teams from sixth to ninth with an even ledger of six wins and six losses.Cradle Mountain are level on 32 premiership points with the third placed Gariwerd Cockatoos who are higher than CMD on the ladder due to averaging 26 points more per game. The Jaguars have a narrow points for advantage the three other teams on six wins, averaging 1,130 points per game to be ahead of Venus Bay Vultures (7th - 1,123.42), Shark Bay Tigersharks (8th - 1,123.17) and Lovely Bank Lilacs (9th - 1,113.8).The Wineglass Bay Packers and Birdsville Battlers in 10th and 11th each have a record of five wins and seven losses but have a superior points for to the quartet of teams from sixth to ninth that are one game ahead of them. Sandwiched between the two teams on eight wins and four teams on six wins is the resurgent Larrikin Lagoon Lefties on seven wins attempting to make the finals for the first time since winning their second consecutive premiership in 2016. It is set to be a thrilling final three rounds to the 2026 ORFFA home and away season with several positions in the top eight and with it a finals berth still to be determined.

CMD have made three changes for Round 13 against the Jaguars including two forced changes due to injury. Two players - Tim English (back) and Josh Battle (appendix) that were on the sidelines for Round 12 due to injury passed a fitness test at training yesterday and have been named in Cradle Mountain’s team for the away game against Junee. Battle has been named at the defender 2 position and English has been named at the interchange 1 position. English was a late out against the Nuffers due to his back injury and was replaced in the team by forward Aaron Naughton who returns to being the forward emergency in Round 13. An experienced duo, Rory Laird and Lachie Schultz are both out after suffering ankle injuries in the second quarter of the victory against the Nuffers. Laird and Schultz are the only two players that rank in the Devils top 15 for points per game that aren’t in the club’s Round 13 team. The third inclusion this weekend is forward Shaun Mannagh.

In the opening minute of the game against the Junee Jaguars Mannagh kicked the first goal. Later in the game Mannagh had hamstring tightness and due to this he spent the entire quarter on the bench. Ruck/forward Rowan Marshall was phenomenal against the Jaguars to have a career-high 33 disposals, 30 hit-outs, 12 clearances and kicked two scores to amass a season-high 169 SuperCoach points to be the clubhouse leader for the ORFFA Round-high score for Round 13.

In theory these are the Junee Jaguars, in reality I fear they are more the Easybeats this week, CMD looking scary.
