Dixon an interesting one. He's in and out of my team almost every day. Any thoughts on Dixon vs Darling?

Coad would have more JS than then d stanely, wouldn't he??</blockquote>

From what i've seen of Coad during the pre-season games he's looked totally lost and slow down back - was a pretty handy SANFL player, and may have been ok in VFL last season, but I honestly don't believe he's got what it takes to be a reliable regular defender in the big league

How many GC players is too many? 6 or 7 maybe?

I think Hunt is a good option for reliable game time, he is a larger figure down the back that should be a tackling machine and be on the end of a few handballs from the smaller bodies.

Harris should be in the mix, He'll be full of energy and looks to have made a lot of progress since departing the Roo's.

Dixon and Matera are going to have a tuff run against some great defenders. I think they will get a reasonable supply of ball to them but im not sure how they will use it. They looked comfortable in the VFL but there some teams that are going to set out to show them how to play at AFL level. The other options for Rd1 starters are Darling or Mckernan, maybe skinner.

Z.Smith i am still unsure on. Haven't seen him play

Swallow i am tipping to rise higher than Bennell.

Toy is disciplined and showed some ticker. He will earn his ball and provide a good contest.

    Any thoughts?

There's been a few of us asking why Brennan, Zac Smith and Iles haven't been seen in pre-season but no-one has answered. Surely someone knows. They ahven't been on the club's published injury lists so are they being less than open about their injuries?

@ FSB - I think D Stanley has pretty good JS, don't you?

And Toy would have as good JS as you'd get from a first year player, after Swallow and Matera?</blockquote>

Yeah.. I missed him..but I was wondering if he can hold down his place..performance wise. But i think his JS is pretty good too.

Toy. I guess you would like to think hes up to it and therefore JS would be ok. But apart form the first NAB match where I thought he was noo too bad, I think he has fallen asleep at the wheel..

Really with my thoughts on JS I was looking at 100&#37; JS or close enough to it. And I didnt rate Stanley or Toy as 100&#37;.

    FWIW I think Stanley 85&#37;+ and Toy 75&#37;

I don't have any mail on Brennan or Iles.

    A little bit off topic...

Ive got Swallow and Harris at M6 and M7. Ive got a NM mid so theyll both be on round 3, and then after that I guess ill 'know who's better'. But the decision of who to run on the ground round 2 is quite hard. Any ideas?

    Of note:

    - Smith to attempt to play 22 games
    - Iles singled out as the DT specialist
    - Best 22 includes all-rookie forward line, Weller on the HF flank, Coad & Toy starting in the backline and Lock as CHF.

The best 22 there seems more likely than a few others that have been published around the 'nets - Rischitelli on the ball, Harbrow up on the wing rather than in the backline to spread some of the experience, and two ruckmen named.

Interesting indeed, Emes. I wonder when the actual article was drafted? Seeing Prestia named in the 22 is contrary to what many of us thought when he was omitted from the 3rd match. Perhaps he was simply rested?

From a supercoach perspective, given the number of fwd/mid links has dwindled as a result of injuries, having Prestia back on the radar would very much be welcomed. His two scores of 70 weren't half bad either!

I think he was being rested.

I think people are reading GC players not getting many games or much time in the pre-season the wrong way. McKenna has already come out and said that he only wants to play most rookies 12-15 times this year. Why then would he put them through a full preseason, when he is so conscious of overworking them and wearing them out.

I think several (rookie) names that didn't feature heavily in GC's preseason are firmly in McKenna's plans for R2.

But yeah, pretty glad to see Prestia in there! My M/F rookie link prospects have definitely thinned out over the course of the pre-season.

For what it's worth Josh Toy is Liam Pickering’s tip for the Rising Star.

As for Hunt I thought he was he barely up to VFL standard. Marketing player or not I reckon the Suns will be forced to drop him at some stage.

    @Emes

Wouldn't take to much from that there are plenty of other GC best 22 that say different. BTW there is no way weller is ahead of d stanely for the forward flank!!

That article was reassuring and scary at the same time.

    No Stanley?!?!?!

It would be nice to know who wrote it. As several things have pointed towards Prestia not being selected round 2.

    1. He was in the "possibles" not "probables" team
    2. McKenna said before their last hit out that this was the likely team for round 2, and Prestia wasn't there.

    More bloody uncertainty!

I think the GC players are a lucky dip; full stop. They will all play at some stage and I guess as long as you have at least one GC player on each line play R2 then we should be happy. If you have say Matera and Presita in your forwards I reckon Matera will play early with Prestia coming into the side a few rounds later. Having said that they both may play R2! Who knows but I guess we have to keep and eye on whispers and comments coming out of the GC camp and go with our gut feeling....
