Hey guys, Just a quick one- if you were able to ask one of the blokes from ChampionData a few questions, what would you ask? Could be a chance to get some clarity on some of the questions that have been popping up in these parts recently...
How did Kossie score 68 last weekend? How is BG averaging over 100 this year? Just off the top of my head.
Some written clarification of SC scoring. How much weighting is given the timing of actions (Goals, matching saving tackles) and how important DE is. Sometimes its bamboozling how they arrived at a score for a player.
Nice one Walesy, they really should be more accessable. If a handball or kick is received on the bounce by a team mate is it still effective and if a chest mark was dropped by the full forward for example, would the kicker still get an effective stat? Off on a slight tangent, for the newsletter is there one of the many knowledgeable TS members who could explain a buzz word/phrase each issue in layman’s terms. Eg. Forward Press. If you miss the precise moment these words become fashionable and are fully explained you soon hear every analyst regurgitating it and get a bit lost.
Agree with Nick in the 3rd post. That's two votes so ask 'em twice to make sure you get a good answer.
Any reason why they can't put up a calculations spread-sheet after each round? And maybe a comments section explaining anomalies in the weightings for a given game. (Late goals etc)

However, I'd like to know if the weighting is done over the quarter that mattered, or if only the individual actions that contributed to the win or loss are scaled... Can a clanger that costs the game be scaled too?
How many people monitor each game? And how do they decide which player gets the stat in contentious situations? Sometimes it can be difficult to tell who laid the tackle, who won the hitout etc.
Is the player kicking in from an opposition behind awarded points for that kick and is it subjected to the normal disposal efficiency both plus and minus?
They had a Champion Data person on radio last round and he described how data was collected. All games are called by CD commentators but he made a point of saying it is called without the flair and emotion we hear on radio bradcasts. It is called to suit the way they process the data. The commentary is received/collected and processed in Melbourne. No data is entered at the games. He talked also about where data was heading in the future. More teams will want to know how long players do not have the ball, how long they do have the ball and where on the ground and many more complex ways of analysing their and the competitions performance. Very interesting stuff.
