Rioli

Discussion in 'AFL' started by Iain (BlueBeliever), Jun 28, 2011.

  1. According to Stephen Quartermain on One Week At a Time Rioli out for 3 weeks. Trade time? I may just have to wear it but what are those with more trades left thinking?

I'll be keeping him, as I'll field Isaac Smith for the time being in his place. When Hawks have their bye I could field Tapscott, Mzungu or Callinan (if I get him) for a week and then he'll be back after that, If I use my 2 trades this week then I'll just have the 5 which I plan to hold until finals unless long-term injuries hit me. I think it was stkildathunda or Lucas who mentioned he has 1 league game until R19. Something like this:
    R15: Miss
    R16: League Bye/Probably Miss
    R17: Hawthorn Bye
    R18: Play
    R19: League Bye
I think it was stkildathunda or Lucas again who posted his relatively easy run home in finals including V Gold Coast Suns in Grand Final Week (R24).

I'm not sure that there is a standout FWD player that is worth spending a trade to bring in. Fyfe and ROK are the most likely options for me, but both have a bye soon which is not attractive.

I have Pavlich-Franklin-Sylvia-Petrie-NRiewoldt-(I.Smith/Mzungu) where I.Smith/Mzungu (one on MID line) are onfield covering for Rioli. My remaining FWDs are McKernan (permaspud) and Howe, which should at least give enough cover for byes even with Rioli out for a few. I can also swing Grundy to FWD (with McKernan) as I have a full complement of 10 DEF players to choose from currently.

So all said and done, I'm thinking of holding Rioli until SC league finals at the moment.

I don't have the FWD/DEF link like Jason but will hold onto Rioli because of his run in weeks 19-22. Once Cox's bye is out of the way, I'll still have 8 prem FWD's incl Rioli so cover no problem except in the Hawthorn bye with Buddy too.

    Thank god for Petrie/Tippett.

Big thing that worries me is alot of players that do 2 hamstrings in one season nearly always do another one when they return and he has already done 2 now!!

Thinking about Rioli to Fyfe/Chappy but its a tough one cos i only got him in a few weeks ago.

If your going for league do not trade Rioli.

No benefit from doing that at all unless you are struggling to make the top 8

Posted this in the round 14 review

    '''Those going for leagues.

Rioli looks like missing just the 1 and the Hawks have a bye in round 17 anyway.

    Round 15 – Miss
    Round 16 – League Bye
    Round 17 – Hawks Bye
    Round 18 – Back?
    Round 19 – League Bye

Trying to find a positive as he was set to score 120+ Friday night.'''

I'll hold him because of the bye situation.

As SKT says though, I know from personal experience of hammy problems back in the day they have a nasty habit of recurring!

So Watson's gone as well under that logic.

Mind you I'd have flicked him with the R24.

Watson did his job. You got him then traded down to Selwood at Round 7 if you were lucky/well planned.

Would you risk trading in paperhammies Chappy for cobwebhammies Rioli?

I know Chappy has a finals bye, but he is starting to show some signs of form.

And I have a horrible feeling that, even if Rioli is right, they might choose not to fly him to the Gold Coast in Rd24.

I had him last year and was asking the same questions. Too hard to cover in FF, i'd be dumping him and giving him a wide berth til he proves his body can do it week in week out.

Read an interesting article this week about the game today and how players would be looking to play 15 or so really good games instead of playing every game.

    Interesting.

Currently on top of cash league at 11-1. I have 7 trades left with $78,600 in the bank and considering pulling the trigger on Cyril for Petrie (or maybe chappie). I’m not convinced on chappies late season hammy/rested specialist (and his form has been average but is starting to turn) + finals bye!
Petrie is gold I reckon but the Prelim Finals bye is the reason I haven’t got him in (looked at him three times over the last month and keep coming back to this stumbling block).
I may have got around it in my head but am not sure if it is worth it or i'm inventing new ways to waste trades again..(paranoid as last year I was Captain Trigger Happy)? Am thinking I could downgrade Z SMITH to LOBBE in RUCKS (as smith doesnt get a run on the park in my 22 now anyway) and CYRIL to DROOPY forward so I can throw petrie on the ruck bench during his R23 bye and play either smith or Mzoo FWD. If i trade it leaves me with a Ruck line of COX, GRIFFIN (LOBBE, DERRICX) and a FWD line of PAV, NROO, JROO, GOODES, ROK, BUDDY, PETRIE (I. Smith, Lynch (GC), Patrick) – with Mzoo and Prestia on mids bench as MPP coverage.
Leaves me with 5 trades and $260,300 in the kitty for finals upgrades. Good move or over thinking it?

Petrie has a bye in first week of finals. If you are good enough you should win anyway.

But these trades, nah I reckon trigger happy. Your team is strong enough and just get through this week.
