Richmond is uncertain when captain Chris Newman will recover from a knee injury and be ready to resume playing.

Newman strained his posterior cruciate ligament during the first quarter of yesterday’s match against Geelong at Etihad Stadium and was ‘subbed’ off.

The 29-year-old had scans this morning, which revealed that no surgery was required.

“At this stage, it is difficult to put an exact time frame on how long Chris will be on the sidelines, but we’re hopeful he will be available for the last portion of the season,” said Richmond Football Manager Ross Monaghan.

Richmond’s other injury concern from Sunday’s loss was young defender Jake Batchelor, who suffered slight concussion.

Batchelor is expected to recover in time for the Tigers’ next match against West Coast, at Subiaco, on August 7.

My issue with Newman is that trading him out would mean one of the trades I left for the two Blues in my backline is gone and will have to field one of Stanley, Lower or Poops in prelim.

But won't you have to play Lower , Poops or Stanley to cover Newman for the time being anyway?

Imagine if you traded out Shaw > Gwilt > Newman....

Here's hoping he takes full advantage of the bye and does a G.Johncock

    Recent strained PCLs:

Campbell Brown: missed 4 weeks last year
Taylor Walker: projected 4 but hasn't played since Rd 10
    Shaun Hampson: projected 6-8 weeks
Cameron Bruce: projected 4-6 weeks but hasn't played since Rd 5

Obviously every injury is different, but one would think a minimum of 4 weeks for Newman.

So if going for leagues, do we trade him out or not? That's the main question here...hmmmm

Can't see Newman back for extended matches this year. Might play 3 max.

All right if no one else is gonna say it I will... (pathetic pun to follow).... It's time for a Newman! But seriously is it worth holding newman, running with poopa on field (allowing me to get GAJ in the mids) or trade newman for Scotland/broughton at the expense of getting GAJ (currenty have S. Thomson in garys spot)?

G'day guys. Sitting 60th and this is probably my last chance of catching up this week. Have got $168k in the bank.
Want to bring Buddy in for Tom Lynch (GC) and then Troy Chaplin for Newman. This will leave me with two trades and I need to roll the dice. Could be a good POD. What do you think?

Franklin a great option in my mind.
I brought Chaplin in a bit over a month ago instead of Adcock (bullet dodged).
He seems to score pretty well regardless of whether or not Port are getting smashed, which is important, given how often Port are getting smashed this year.

He'll keep you in it but I can't see you making up ground with him - who else is in your back line at the moment?

    @ Bottsy

I would be very wary getting Chaplin, his scoring can be all over the place, one week giving you a decent return, then put in a low scoring game the next week - it all depends on his given role each week.

He scores best when he plays as the lose man in defence rather than when he plays as a key defender responsible for one of the oppositions key forwards.

Personally, I'd be looking elsewhere to replace Newman.
