    Hey lads,
Prelims are here and everyone has a few out.
Just want to get peoples thoughts on Broughton.
Is this reason he had such a shite game last week was coz Mundy played? and he had no midfield time? or just back to his bad form?

Even though broughton got named for the game tonight against Pies, im seriously considering putting him on the pine and putting Poupolo on.
Pouopolo seems to be on and off each week -
In order of his last 4 games:
    55 SC, 111 SC, 58 SC, 111 SC.
Seeing this tells me he's due for a 111 at the mcg vs dogs, he got 96 against them previoulsy.

Since Mundy is out this week, broughton might do ok but still, its against pies.
    What ya think?

Broughton was carrying an injury last week and by all reports still is. If Freo had more fit players available for R23, he wouldn't be in the 22 this weekend. But they don't, so he is in the squad.

I don't have the option of benching him, but if I did I would strongly consider it.

Because I have to field him, I am crossing fingers that he gets more of the SC pie due to Mundy, Pav, etc being out of the midfield this week.

Inclined to say Stanley vs Melbourne over Broughton vs Collingwood.

my question is tougher... Broughton or Lower?

I would rather not have to play either.

Despite popular opinion I've decided to field Lower over Broughton.

I just dont think he could be fit enough to score well. His 3 game ave is 58 and its hard to see it improving against the pies.

It could cost me a spot in the granny as I'm pretty sure my opponent will be playing him. Got 1 trade left I could use but with my benches decimated and Heppell out next week I'm saving it. Fingers and toes all crossed.

I'm playing him as I have no bench cover. I have enough trades to turn him into an Enright or something, but with no Pav and Mundy surely he'll spend more time in the middle. Pies won't tag him either.

As for his injury, they have so many out, so clearly Harvey has no problem in resting his injured players...yet Broughton is still there. They'll jab him and he'll fire up. (Fingers crossed)

OH LOOK WHAT HAPPENS!? Poupolo gets a lazy 150SC ?
ON MY BENCH. So over the inconsistant randomness of SC scores this year. Its plane luck.

I thought "plane luck" was when you joined the mile high club?

Lower out, so Broughton (jabbed up) pretty safe for 80 plus I reckon. His Doggy opponents will not be in the same league as the Maggies either.

Help please, who should I play on the field in the GF?:

    Broughton (vs Bulldogs)
    OR
    Adcock (vs Sydney)

(or bench them both and cop a doughnut cos they're both spuds). Thanks

yeah got the same problem Broughton or Adcock (if i bring in Scotland). or if I don't bring in Scotland and Go O'keefe for Mzunga (like i want to but that would leave me exposed with no Def emergency).

    Any suggestions anyone?

Knowing where broughton is actually going to play is vital in deciding whether to put him in the 22. If he plays through the midfield i will want him in my team for sure, but if he runs up and down on the same spot locked away in that back pocket like he has done i wouldnt even give the emergency role. Might wait and see if mundy comes back in before deciding but being the final round, selection headaches will probably be few and far between for our SC teams anywaty

After a 150 odd last week and against Gold Coast this week I'd be going poo poo if I had him.... Not an easy call though..

I think the position where they get named is close to irrelevant. Similar to the All-Australian team, there's about 5-6 key position players (including rucks) and the rest are all midfielders.

I have him cause he has smashed it in midfield in preseason and when he was in there last season, and is likely to start the year off in there, and even if he is shifted to backline when Barlow, Mundy et al return, backmen have historically scored well under Lyon anyway.

The only thing stopping Broughton becoming a high-end premium backman who runs the middle was Harvey (through tactics or injuries) playing him in defensive shut down roles. As soon as he was released through the midfield in those half a dozen rounds or so last year, his ppg sky rocketed.

We are all taking an educated guess that Lyon will play to Broughton's strengths and run him through the midfield (albeit a tagging role), especially while Mundy and Co. are injured.
