Credit to sharkwhisperer on another thread for highlighting this important change. The SC site has point rules up as follows...

    STAT DESCRIPTION POINTS AWARDED/DEDUCTED
    Effective kick 4 Points
    Ineffective kick 0 Points
    Clanger kick -8 Points
    Effective Handball 2 Points
    Ineffective handball 0 Points
    Handball clanger -6 Points
    Handball receive 1 Point
    Hardball get 4 Points
    Loose-ball get 4 Points
    Goal 8 Points
    Behind 1 Point
Mark uncontested (maintaining possession) 1 Point
Mark contested (maintaining possession) 6 Points
Mark uncontested (from opposition) 4 Points
Mark contested (from opposition) 8 Points
    Tackles 4 Points
    Free kick for 4 Points
    Free kick against -6 Points
    Hitout to Advantage 3 Points

Buddy is just one who is likely to be effected. Anyone care to re-calculate his 2011 average under the new rules. There will be plenty of others as well, which raises the bigger question "is it possible to source a list of players with historically high clanger kick counts, and how does that affect their true value in 2012 ?"

I think Boyd will be one to suffer from the clanger kick and handball rules. Also, has a tackle always been 4 points?? I thought a tackle last season was 1 or 2 points

    @ Lucas

Clanger kicks last year were -4, handballs I think the same

Would have to make you think twice with players like Boyd & Hayes.

Tackles I hope ones that turnover possession are given more weight, even if not directly through a free kick.

I.e. there's a whole lot of difference between a Pendlebury tie up tackle, and a Selwood crunch that can force a ball free

I've always thought Pendlebury's tackle stats flatter him. He hardly tackles in a manner that regains possession for the Pies, just causes a stoppage.

Tackles stats are just as big a rort as hitouts.

Seems to make outside players seem a bit more attractive

We need a list of what they were last year to compare. Could make a massive difference to selections.

    2011 Points (although not all):
    http://tooserious.net/forum/donors-only-group1/donors-forum1/sc-2011-points-changes-thread245

    Effective Kick 4 Points
    Inffective Kick 0 Points
    Clanger -4 Points
Long Kick to adv. 7 Points
    Backwards Kick 1 Point
Uncontested mark from teammate 2 Points
Uncontested mark from opposition 4 Points
Contested mark from teammate 6 Points
Contested mark from opposition 8 Points
    Mark on lead 5 Points
    Tackle 4 Points
    Free Kick against -4 Points

    Changes:
Clanger Kick -8 Points (-4 last year)
Clanger Handball -6 Points (-4 last year)
Free Kick Against -6 Points (-4 last year)

All negative changes, so you would assume SC scores will slightly decrease this year.

I'll try and confirm the other points now.

This will be bad if the re-introduce the torp to beat the defense wall. Those long kickers out of backline will be avoided, Suckling perhaps as well as kick in takers.

@Thokash - scores won't change, still 3300 per game. Might mean those with better kicking efficiency get more of the pie.

I've calculated a simple % of clangers per disposal for the highest 50 or so possession winners from last season which might be helpful. I couldn't find any stats specific for kick vs handball clangers so this is just total clangers per total disposals.

Cheers Ex-Prez, makes more sense in that ordering. Makes Pendlebury and Scotland much more tempting despite the initial outlay in light of the changed clanger point deduction.

Ok So I've crunched a few more numbers that should give a bit more accuracy...
    http://www.lezyeoh.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/sc-clanger-2012.xls
Basically I've looked at the average disposals, and taken into account their kick to handball ratio and based on the new changes, seen how many points on average per game each player would lose.
I've also looked at what their "new" average would have been based on the clangers.
I've also looked at what % of their new score would be on their actual 2011 score.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Shouldn't spanner anything

Surely with Supercoach you try to pick players who are good disposers of the footy!

Such as good old Scotty Pendles who is much unloved after Impro said NO

I hope we get to see some legit Supercoach scores before the start of the season... Would hate for this new rule to make such a large difference to the scores that it ruins all my hard research.
