pendlebury (plays against hawthorn) abblett (adelaide) mummyford (GWS) gooodes (GWS) goddard (port) leaning toward ablett but the sydney boys look tasty against GWS. your choice.

Thanks Terry - I actually just got back from overseas yesterday. Trying to finalise my SC team now but am a bit behind research wise. For those that are interested, I am doing an analysis of how teams and players scored against Gold Coast last year. This may give some guidance as to whether we should be picking a captain from any team that plays against GWS (or against Gold Coast as well obviously). I hope to post in the next day or so ... As a teaser, Gold Coast lost 19 games last year by an average losing margin of 64 points. In those 19 games, on average, 7 opposition players scored more than 100.
Im not sure the captains loophole works if all your bench players actually play? If you assign Captaincy to Orrenson on the bench, does his score count even tho off-field?
Surely Goodes over Mummy for the loophole. He is going to destroy GWS. A question also for you 1-0-3 ruck advocates... If mummy is such a popular choice for captain this week, why would you entertain Giles? It's not going to get any easier as the weeks progress...
I think Gazza will not be facing the same old Adelaide this year - dont expect a 150+. Also, Goodes is a gun but when the whole teams dominating the ball will fly past him a lot, everyone will be so confident. On other hand, Mummy will just stand at all ballins and taptaptap away gathering lazy gold. Forget the VC loophole, he's my C.
It will only get tricky if Goodes pumps out a 120....if he scores 100 I'll leave Gazza unchanged as skipper. If AG scores 140 or better it will be tough not to do the rookie thing. Lots of doubts all round over rookie selections in Rd 1 so I'll cross that bridge next week. I'm of a view that Goodes may get a bit more bench time (in a GWS cakewalk) than usual as they manage his 32 year old formerly indestructable carcase through to the bye. So we'll all probably end up back on Gazza anyway !!

Quote from Lucas on March 21, 2012, 11:41 Goodes for the loophole, the issue is what non-playing forward to select.
Lachie Neale anyone?...
@ Gary, You can't put the Captain on the bench, it will auto-allocate to the person you swapped Orren for. It is going to be tough to gauge but if Goodes/Mummy go huge, you have to then add a player to your team who is definitely not playing next week and run with it. With Magner being fit, there will have to be someone else to fill the void. Neale is one option but unless you have him already penciled in, is it worth the risk particularly if he turns into a Hibberd.
