I notice very few people taking Suckling, despite the fact Hawthorn play pinball around the backline and he's their designated kicker. To me he is a bargain.
I'd like to hear some people's theories why they aren't taking him, please. thanks

Totally agree with you, Gary

He's locked into my side, and no-one will convince me otherwise.

Suckling played 20 games last year at an average of 91. He only scored over 100 in 8 of those games at an average of 114. In his 12 games under 100, his average was only 75. Did not score over 115 in his last 14 regular season games.

Scored 7 SC points, 24 and 80 in the 2011 finals against Collingwood, Sydney and Geelong respectively ...

Dammit it Jasmine your logical cold hard facts almost convince me! :)
Flyup - cant trust a bomber when it comes to hawk players ;)

come on folks, i need stronger arguments against suckling!
(i dont think he'll be a sub at all, plus the hawks will rule the ball this yr more than ever before)

@fly - that can be very good fun over the next week!
'Fear Campaigns' - some injury 'rumours' could really start a panic ;)

As a hawks fan, i went for birchall over suckling.they are both elite kicks and good decision makers, though i just think that birch is more consistent and the added possibility of suckles being the sub, though i dont think it will happen very often, pushes birch over the line for me. I also think that with the inclusion of gilham, stratts and roughie will take a little bit more pressure of both of them, so i reckon they will improve this year as well

Everyone except for me !

Will really enjoy watching his pin-point long kicks from defense this year, and I'm a Crows fan.

Birchall's locked for me too, no room for another hawk defender.

Going off Nab SC's =

Birchall = 1.054 Pts per min TOG & cost $6,478 for each point scored,

Suckling = 0.907 Pts per min TOG & cost $7,978 for each point scored.

Suckling was a standout in last years nab & carried that good form into the early season,
but as Jasmine showed, Suckling slowed down toward the end of last season & with comparisons in this years nab, the momentum looks to be clearly in Birchalls favour.

I think late last year the teams targeted Suckling a bit more. Gotta respect that kicking and eventually they did. It affected his output.

Not sure the chipping around will be too effective this year, teams will adapt. Bulldogs tried it last week against Geelong to find forwards 5-10 metres in front of their defenders across the ground forcing them to kick down the line. Turned me off the cheap Bulldogs defenders real quick - can't beat the hardball stats.
