As season comes to close next week I thought it would be good time to get some discussion on potential All Australian side. This is normally a pretty hot topic so thought we’d get main post up about it.
This is one the hardest things to do and obviously you cant fit everyone into the final 22 but below is my shot at it!
StKildaThunda’s All Australian Side
B: Beau Waters, Darren Glass, Luke McPharlin
HB: Grant Birchall, Ted Richards, Sean Dempster
C: Gary Ablett, Trent Cotchin, Dane Swan
HF: Dayne Beams, Mathew Pavlich, Patrick Dangerfield
F: Cyril Rioli, Tom Hawkins, Stephen Milne
R: Dean Cox, Jobe Watson, Josh P. Kennedy
INT: Sam Jacobs, Scott Pendlebury, Brett Deledio, Joel Selwood
<!--more-->
Unlucky: Scott Thompon, Ryan OKeefe, Sam Mitchell, Lewis Jetta, Luke Bruest, Ivan Maric, Nic Nat, Mathew Boyd, Andrew Swallow, Lenny Hayes, Shane Tuck, Heath Scotland, Josh Gibson and a few others!
I found the HF & FF positions hardest to pick. Pavlich selects himself but then any of Hawkins, Petrie, J.Riewoldt, N.Riewoldt could have been selected. Didn’t select both Roo’s as don’t think they’ve had outstanding AA seasons and Petrie has been good in 2nd half season but very average first half. Think Franklin has missed too many games to make it, the same as Taylor Walker. If they played 19-20 games they would have been locked in.
No doubt my selection of Sean Dempster will cause bit of discussion, but his year has been outstanding and is ranked higher than most defenders in nearly every category. He doesn’t quite average same disposals as some, but it’s not always about that.
Dean Cox/Sam Jacobs was my preferred ruck combination. Jacobs got nod just ahead of Maric although wouldn’t be surprised to see it go that way. Nic Nat is also in contention. Could we have 4 ruckman in AA team?
Stephen Milne was easy selection for forward pocket, having kicked 55 goals and only 5 behind Coleman leader. Milne has kicked a goal in EVERY single game and in all those games only been 5 games where he has kicked 1 goal. Ive gone for Cyril Rioli in other pocket but did weigh up if Luke Bruest would be better in that position. But wouldn’t be surprised if they go for another midfielder in team (ala Dane Swan the other year)
With midfielders theres probably about 20 guys you could try squeeze in. Pendlebury was borderline for me after he missed few games.
Brett Deledio is not bench as doesnt fit in midfield and he hasnt played of HB this year but deserves to be in team. (although wont be surprised see him named in backline)
No doubt ive forgotten someone that deserves to be in there though!
Walsey was supposed to be sending through his All Australian side so we could compare them, but you know he’s a busy man so we will need to be patient!
So who do people think will make the All Australian side this year?
