Jolcon and I are going to put together a FIXture for our first season.

We are going to be taking into consideration travelling and recovery issues. As well as things like the parking situation at Namatjira and the availability of the nearby Wilkins Runway for the games at Mawsons Base.

There are obviously going to be other logistical nightmares that need to be considered, so if any of you know of any particular hurdles for visiting teams coming to play against you, could you please outline them here. And yes, Chels, we are aware that teams will be escorted, blind folded, for the final 20 minutes to the Waikikamoocow home ground.

And, if anyone has any particular fixture requests, could you also mention them in this thread please - and we will try to accommodate you - although there will be no stand alone games on the first weekend of the season alla GWS v Sydney; however a midweek fixture may be possible with enough notice - so get in quick, as we will be looking to finalise the fixture over the coming days. An example of a request could be that you want to play against Powlett Plains on a Saturday morning to make sure the nearby shops are open or that you prefer not to play against Nunawading at night for safety reasons, but not that you want to play a team on a certain weekend as their players have tough matchups that week in the AFL.

    .

It looks like our first round will be coinciding with round 7 of the infamous ORFFL, which means that we could all play each other once each if we utilise the bye rounds of the AFL season and have no finals.

What do you all think of this?

Can everyone please leave a comment here about whether we should do that - play 17 rounds of 'home and away' season with no finals - or not.

    Cheers,
    anthak & Jolcon
Gariwerd Cockatoos & Birdsville Battlers respectively

And if you are saying that we shouldnt play through the bye rounds, can you please offer an alternative.

I'd rather not play through the bye rounds. My suggestion would be we have a "random" draw witha a maximum of two specials requests per team recognised. The franchise holder to decide which specials he accepts.

Then after about 7 weeks we can see what the table looks like and have a few top 8 fixtures for teams who have had an easy draw. IMHO this year we need continued goodwill and a bit of a seat of the pants approach.

BTW, I would like to play TiB as a special.

I personally like the idea of finals, but if it logistically difficult and allows ORRFL play-offs without then I'm easy.

I have no fixture request per say, but being from Far Kew we are not used to the, ahem, country types, and demand all visiting teams be cavity searched as the Frogs Board just does not trust anyone out of Metropolitan Melbourne. Even Nunawading (which is as rough as a country town, lets be honest).

I also demand never to play Mawson base at home as their home ground advantage will be too great as they've been training at sub zero temperatures.

Agree not playing through bye rounds is a good idea.

Apart from that, the Dirigibles will float from place to place whenever they are called to do so. Whatever keeps Big Ivan's mullet in place will ensure we stay aloft and on track.

I don't mind if we play through the bye rounds, but weren't they supposed to be trade weeks, if so then we can't play through them, logistically would be too hard.

    Marble Bar has some issues that need to be raised;
    1. Visiting teams must bring their own water, oranges and women.
    2. When playing away we like jelly beans in the visitor's dressing room.

From a fixturing perspective we have no requests and nothing to offer, we have played exclusively with ourselves since 1893 (thus the 119 consecutive Premiers trophies) we have no experience at playing with others, but hope it's kind of the same friendly intimate experience :p

Charlie's Opening hereby request a grudge match against Mawson Bay, after the CEO of Mawson Bay used (some may say misused) his commissionary powers to change the name of the Charlie's Opening franchise under false racism claims levelled at the Charlie's Opening CEO.

The CO Franchise request that the game be held at their home ground, as the likeihood of camels surviving the frigid temperatures is almost 0%, whereas it has been known for many years that Eudyptula minor or the Fairy Penguin are quite suited to the climate, making the preferred method of transport for the representatives from Mawson a viable option.

No preferences, I'll play anyone, anywhere, anytime, any weather. But during the byes I will be trading.

The draw, as such, should be out of a metaphorical hat. At least I think X. has a hat.

Ok, I'd like to propose an idea.

I am not sure I like the idea of not playing each other at least once; however it seems that most people are in favour of not playing during byes - so I've been trying to work out a way to make that fair.

How about we play 4 weeks qualifying rounds where we mainly play clubs closest to us - geographically. That will lead us into the 3 week trade period. Over those 3 weeks jolcon and I can work on a fixture for the remainder of the season, where teams are seeded based on how they went in the qualifying period.

    Does anyone disagree with that?

I think it is fair because having a season where we don't play every other team at least once is unfair - so the qualifying period sets up some sort of justice.

    What do you all reckon?

I would prefer to play during byes, But happy to do anything really, and would higher seeded teams be disadvantaged??

Honestly Ant, we are probably so close to the bye rounds, that presuming Fitzy is right about doing afew trades before R1, it may be fairer to play through them, I thought we would have 2 official ladders this year anyway, one points based and the other based on for and against..

I'd prefer to have a mid season trade period... Doesn't have to be all 3 weeks of the bye period though

During the three bye weeks, how about a free for all.....as in ALL 26 players on your squad (if playing) are counted Vs another coach's 26. No skill required, pure crap shoot....but does allow everyone to play everyone once.

(knowing full well that 4-8 players will be out on byes...so it'll probably be 18 vs 19 or whatever)

    that is actually more unfair.

if players are out due to bye, you can leave them out of team anyway. its better to have it capped at 15 players still, otherwise people with a heap of players playing will be advantaged.

if anything, it would be better to reduce the team size, so it gives more chance that everyone will have a full side - which may not be a bad idea for those three weeks.

its actually split at 5all on whether we should play through byes or not.

would be good to hear from the other 8 league members as well

at the moment, Jolcon and I are leaning towards having byes off, as that is what was originally planned and there are a number of people who have specifically said they do not want to play through them - so default should be the original plan

the only thing is, that the original plan was put fwd when we thought there would be no chance of playing each other once each. However now there is a possibility if we play through the byes.... so we have a conundrum :)

Good point Anth....hate that your smarter than me :)

So with what you said...Bye weeks reduced starting roster a possibility?

    Squad reduced to 10?

((( Honestly, I dont care whats decided, we are playing for sheep stations anyway, just trying to tickle the grey matter and give you options )))
