Over the next month or two we will have a season review for each club from a supercoach perspective. They will include The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and will also include a small watchlist of players to keep an eye out for heading into season 2013. These will be written by fans of each club and if you are interested in writing one for your own club then let us know!

This review is on the Pies and is written by Popey.

Collingwood have had one hell of an interesting year! They have been up and down like a yoyo and I think that it is fair to say that some of its players have caused us some Supercoach heartache over the course of 2012.

Lets get stuck in and see who have been the good, the bad, and the very, very ugly from the pies in 2012.

    <!--more-->

    The Good

    Dayne Beams

    Avg: 122.90

    Projected 2013 Price: $652,000

What a jet! Beams has taken his game to a new level this year and has been an absolute Supercoach stud. Since round 8 Beams has only dipped below the ton once, with a respectable 80. In that time, 8 of them were 130+ scores which made him a serious first choice captaincy option, right up there with the SC god, Gazza himself. If Beams is a mid/fwd next year, which seems unlikely, then you would be very silly to overlook him as your first choice forward. Well done if you jumped on him when he was 500k!

    Jamie Elliot

    Avg: 60.92

    Projected 2013 Price: $323,000

Jamie had an impressive debut year this year, providing us with some handy backup as the season progressed. He had his downer days but he also had some good ones. Mooed out around 200k at his peak and if you were clever enough, you made some serious cash out of him. A respectable average of 61 deserved to be more and would have been if he wasnt the sub in his first game. The sky is the limit for this little tackling machine, one to keep an eye on as his career progresses.

    Steele Sidebottom

    Avg: 106.24

    Projected 2013 Price: $564,000

Steele has had a very solid year, in which he started off like a house in fire. He has lifted his average to 106, well up on 83 the year before. He could have been better, as he faded late in the season, but every few weeks he bobbed up with a bigger score just to remind us that he is all class. One of the biggest improvers this year, not quite at the elite echelon yet, but not far off. Certainly one to consider for your team next year.

    The Bad

    Jackson Paine

    Avg: 49.50

    Projected 2013 Price: $236,000

Maybe a little harsh on a young fella, but the reality is that many were relying on him to be some decent bench cover, and he was far from that! Overall, he played 6 games for an average of 49, just not good enough for a bloke who started in about 10% of teams. Looking forward to see what he can bring to the table next season, but for now, lucky not to be ugly.

    Scott Pendlebury

    Avg: 124.72

    Projected 2013 Price: $662,000

Yeah, I know, one of the best averaging Supercoach stars in the game is in the bad list, but Pendles cost us this year. He missed a total of 6 games with a broken leg that seriously hurt a lot of people who hung onto him. Also, his average has dropped from 130 to 124, a drop that has seen him lose grasp of the Supercoach King status. He just didnt quite hit the standard that he did in 2011. He is a jet, but he hurt too many to be considered good.

But dont go overlooking him next year; he will be bigger and better as each year goes on.

    Heath Shaw

    Avg: 101.17

    Projected 2013 Price: $537,000

Once again, not one that would immediately spring to your mind for this section, is he? Well he burnt me, and many others, as he missed 6 of the first 13 games of the year. This meant that we all had a premium defender sitting on our pine whilst our opponents racked up the points. He boasts a solid average of 101, but that lies. When it has really mattered, the Supercoach finals, he has skulked away and hid in a corner, averaging 83 in that period, 18 off his norm. My advice to all, do not pick Heath Shaw in your SC team for 2013, I can guarantee he will cause some grief.

    Marty Clarke

    Avg: 65.94

    Projected 2013 Price: $350,000

Ouch! The guy that many thought would win them Supercoach in 2012 has seriously backfired! He looked great for a while there, and when he hit the 400k mark many considered him as a keeper. Luckily enough for me, I got rid of him before his bye, so I didnt endure the trauma that he inflicted upon many people thereafter. Before we knew it, he was hovering around 250k and unless you had a stack of cash, you were caught between a rock and a hard place. In the end, Clarke ended up gaining us 77k and averaging 66, so it wasnt all doom and gloom, but that is the only thing that we can salvage from him, as he ended up finding himself out of the pies best 22. Well done if you got rid of him at the right time, otherwise, commiserations!

    The Ugly

    Peter Yagmoor

    Avg: 17.50

    Projected 2013 Price: $100,000

Not a household name, right? But I definitely know who he is, and he hurt many a person. Some believed he would be in front of Marty Clarke for the 7th defender, but we were wrong about both. Neither ended up holding their spot and Peter ended up playing 2 very unimpressive matches in which he scored 6 and 29. About 8% of teams started with him, but luckily, there were a heap of cheap defenders that we could trade to when he underperformed. Did nothing but made us waste a trade on him, which we could have used later in the season. Not the best pick of the year!

    Dale Thomas

    Avg: 96.41

    Projected 2013 Price: $512,000

Just when he started to look like a Supercoach star, Daisy lets us down with a shocker SC season. He head a breakout year last year, in which he averaged 110, but this year has been a different story, with him dropping 16 off his average to go down to a far from impressive average of 94. For someone who many thought could go nuts this year, this is a big, fat, ugly! Watch for him in 2013 though, could be a bargain.

    Travis Cloke

    Avg: 81.50

    Projected 2013 Price: $433,000

This name sends shivers down the spines of Supercoaches and Dreamteamers everywhere. Some might say that his last Home and Away game of the year in which he scored an impressive 154 may have saved him from the ugly category, as this is the all-important SC GF round. But the cold reality is that, no one actually would have started him! Unless you were really desperate the option that almost everyone went with was one of our young guns, like Zorko or Treloar, and this was the way of life for many over the latter part of the season. But even if you did have him on the ground, his season was inexcusable. Many a coach would have believed Trav would monster defences this year, regularly posting 120+. They could not have been more wrong. With contract talks as a distraction, Clokey had a season to forget. The biggest Supercoach failure of the year in my eyes, averaging a meek 81. Potential 2013 bargain though!

    2013 Watch list

    Luke Ball

    Avg: 62.7

    Projected 2013 Price: $266,000

Surprisingly, Luke is only 28, which is usually still in the back end of midfielders prime of their career. He will be cheap as chips next year, and is one to watch over the pre-season. He has had a surprisingly quick recovery, so he will fit in a relatively good off season, so he will be fresh and ready as of round 1. Luke is a warrior, but I would be going for someone else for your 4-5th mid spot. With plenty of good rookies next year, maybe the extra 15-20 points he will provide wont be worth the extra cash. One to watch.

    Andrew Krakouer

    Avg: 68

    Projected 2013 Price: $252,000

Only played the one game this year in which he scored a respectable 68. Will be around 250k next year which makes him look like an attractive option. Would say he would even be a better option than Porplyzia was this year, which would be nice as a 5-6th forward. Have a look at him during the pre-season, but with a few good games under his belt this finals series, he will be one to consider for 2013.

    Jarryd Blair

    Avg: 88.5

    Projected 2013 Price: $470,000

Jarryd has taken his season average up to 88 from 77 the previous season. But the biggest thing here is the comparisons toward Dangerfield, Sidebottom and Beams. All of which were in their 4th season this year, and all of which averaged between 85-95 last year. This all paves the way for Blair, who will be in his 4th season next year. Maybe dont go picking him in your first team in Feb, Id be waiting and watching him over the pre-season, but one to consider as he has had big spurts of 4 weeks where he didnt drop below the ton. Definitely worth a look.

Jarrod Witts: Was very unlucky not to get a look in this year, and he was named as emergency in one match, but he couldnt break in. Expect this 209cm big man to get a serious crack next year as Darren Jolly will look to teach him the tricks of the trade before he retires. Will almost be as cheap as you can get, around 100k, and unless the draft brings out some star ruckmen, he will be a great bench ruck option next year. Dont pencil him in yet, as he may not get a game too early, but keep him on your watch list.
