There isn't much the AFL can do about the exotic betting plunges and "inside information". Clearly players should not be betting on games they are involved as they have the ability to directly influence the game. But they will never be able to stop people getting inside information. If you have a friend who is an AFL player and he says to you the coach might try me at FF this week and the bookies have him 100/1 to kick the first goal wouldn't you seriously consider a chance at $10,000 to $100??? It is no different to the races. A trainer and owner might have a horse flying at track work and with that inside info back it to win and get the cash. That it how many trainers survive. The jockey is not allowed to bet but can his girlfriend? Sure can. Can she train and own horses? Sure can. Monitor if players are betting for sure but in reality only the most stupid of players would bet themselves (and as some have been already caught what does that say about them!!!!!) The betting industry could have the sport by the testicles if it wanted and unfortunately there is not much the AFL can do about it.
