Welcome again to the Best Buys. The past week of SuperCoach has seen a variety of new injuries, big games and poor efforts from popular players, and is now looking to be a trend this season causing many coaches a whole lot of headaches. We also saw some events taking place that are starting to look all too familiar; such as Buddy playing another ‘Travis Cloke 2012'-like performance, Nick Riewoldt once again turning back the clock to put in a big game, Heater getting suspended for stupidity, a bunch of guys doing their knee's, and Matt Priddis dropping considerably in price due to an early injury game.
Which brings me nicely to this week's Best Buy, Matt Priddis. Priddis is a consistent workhorse who is generally reliable, except for his habit of getting injured early in the season allowing everyone to bring him in cheaply, and has been a solid fantasy performer for years. Don't let the 91 average fool you, when he doesn't get injured during the game he's usually good for a 110.
DEFENSE
<strong style='font-size: 13.63636302947998px;]ROOKIES[/b]
Will Sierakowski (NM) DEF 115.9k 53 +39k
Sierakowski has been on the fringe at North for a while now, impressing in their Utah camp in the 2012 pre-season he has been performing solidly at VFL since. Averaging 53 in his first two games at the top level he hasn't been incredible yet, but is still certainly worth a look as a rookieon the bubble this week.
MID-PRICERS
Garrick Ibbotson (FRE) DEF 426k 106
Ibbotson, when he has actually played, has looked great this year. Averaging 106 for the Dockers he is in good form but questions remain around his consistency. Ibbo will likely rise almost 40 grand this week, if he hits his average, and being in under 2,000 teams currently he is a certain POD.
James Gwilt (StK) DEF 339.8k 99 +40k
Gwilt is on the bubble this round after a delayed start to the 2013 season, and is looking likely to rise around 40 grand in price after two solid performances. His meagre price of 340 grand makes him a great mid-priced option, especially when the majority of coaches will be focussing on premium upgrades. Only in around 1,500 teams to date.
PREMIUMS
Pearce Hanley (BRI) DEF 529.3k 114
Hanley has been fairly up and down this season, but generally less so than his direct competition in Birch, Hartlett and Grimey, but has managed to keep his average to date on the right side of 110. Approximately 34,000 selection so far.
Michael HIBBERD (ESS) DEF 510.6k 103
Hibberd has continued to impress this season, averaging 103 but also looking to be the key to the Dons backline this year. Racking up possessions off half-back he has been an important playmaker to date, and even managed to slot a goal on the weekend. A great young player and currently in only around 20,000 teams.
MIDFIELD
ROOKIES
Kane Mitchell (PTA) MID 163.7k 34
Due to there only being one rookie to have played last week and be on the bubble this week, we've added a couple of rookies who have played a few games but could still generate some decent cash. The first of which being Kane Mitchell. The Port super-sub was elevated again to the Senior list recently, and while he is still playing Kermit he has made a good impact in his limited time on ground and has the potential to keep making money for his 32,000 coaches, albeit slowly.
MID-PRICERS
Ryan Griffen (WBD) MID 545.9k 114
Griffen bounced back to form in a big way, knocking up a 170+ score on the weekend and impressing many. His average is a respectable 114 for the season so far and he has been somewhat carrying the Dogs engine-room. Priced at just under 550 grand he offers some good value, even though he has been somewhat inconsistent. Currently in around 2,000 teams only.
Brett Deledio (RIC) MID 544.5k 111
Lids is another one to bounce back in a big way over the last round, scoring 160+ and dominating in Cotch's absence. This score helped his average up to 111 for the season and while he looks like dropping a few grand in price this week, if he's back to his best form then he's worth grabbing now, Lids has around 25,000 selections to date.
Luke Hodge (HAW) MID 491.9k 105
Hodge has been good since his return from injury, and is now averaging 105 for the year and looking like rising around 30 grand in price this week. Still priced under 500 grand Hodge looks a real bargain, and if he can stay fit for the remainder of the season is a real chance at being one of the leading midfielders. Around 15,000 teams currently have him in.
Matt Priddis (WCE) MID 451.5k 91
Priddis has been a consistent fantasy scorer for a few years now, but also seems to have developed a trend of getting injured earlyish in the season and dropping significantly in price thereafter. This has now happened for 2013, and his roughly 450 grand price tag is a steal for what he generally offers. Again his injury history is a slight worry, but shouldn't deter many coaches, his 8,000 odd selectors so far however may be frustrated at the others bringing him in on the cheap.
PREMIUMS
Gary Ablett (GCS) MID 704.4k 138
To no-ones surprise Gazza continues to rack up the possies and the big scores. Now back over the 700 grand price barrier, and likely to keep moving upwards, he isn't as cheap as he has been but is still offering great value for his average. The undisputed SuperCoach king, you really need him in your side.
Scott Pendlebury (COL) MID 649.8k 129
Pendles had a quieter week than normal, not quite breaking the ton and disappointing those (like me) who made him Captain. An excellent average and a reasonable price mean Pendles is probably the second lock behind Gaz.
Kane Cornes (PTA) MID 570.6k 125
Kornes is still hovering around the elite mid mark, but is still highly suspect to most due to his age and history. Again we can't really lock him in due to these issues, but for the 14,000 odd coaches with him in their side currently he has been more than worthwhile.
Josh P. Kennedy (SYD) MID 575.7k 118
JPK appears to be coping slightly better with the increased attention so far this year, and the return of Goodes can't hurt that issue, and he has now increased his average to 118. Priced at around 575 grand he offers great value, especially if the Swans can contend for the title again this year. JP has around 60,000 selections as of this week, after a few jumped off following his earlier numbers.
Patrick Dangerfield (ADE) MID 599.8k 112
Paddy is another player to find some form recently, after a decent number of coaches got frustrated and traded him out, and if he can maintain this form looks to be a decent option. It must be said however, that even though his average has topped the 110 mark he is still considerably overpriced for those numbers.
RUCK
ROOKIES
Majak DAW (NM) RUC 208.1k 69 +64k
Majak arrived in a big way on the weekend, kicking six and bagging himself 139 points in the process. As he has now risen around 100 grand in price normally I'd say it's too late to bring him in, but since his 139 will stay in his average for another 2 rounds if you feel he can at least keep his 70 odd average he may still be worth it for some quick cash. West Coast are highly likely to focus on shutting him down this week though it must be said.
Jack Hannath (FRE) RUC 163.5k 63 +43k
Jack Hannath has also come into contention even though not on the bubble, due to the ruck situation at Fremantle. He should be looking at a fair bit more game-time, and is still likely to rise 100 grand or so if he manages another 3 games at his current average.
MID-PRICERS
Robert Warnock (CAR) RUC 431.6k 103
Warnock is an interesting POD proposition. High risk but high reward, when given the number one ruck spot he is among the best tap-men in the business, but with Kreuz in the side he doesn't get that opportunity all that often. If he can deliver games like he did on Monday night; 14 Disp @ 92% DE, 42 HO, 2 clearances and 5 tackles; then Mick would be mad to relegate him to the forward line.
PREMIUMS
Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 571.3k 119
Goldy continues to dominate in the ruck, racking up hit-outs and consistently performing for his coaches. Averaging a midfielder like 119 he is still great value and looks to be the number one ruck-only choice this season for the 30,000 coaches to grab him so far.
Ben McEvoy (StK) RUC 564.6k 116
McEvoy was smashed around a fair bit by Warnock on Monday night in the ruck, but once again his excellent work around the ground helped him to grind out a great score. Averaging 116 for 565 grand he is priced at slightly unders, but it's more the consistency of scoring his 13,000 coaches will be liking.
Will Minson (WBD) RUC 534.2k 113
Wilbur still looks to be a great grab this year, proving the trend of ruckmen improving with age, to a point obviously, and being one of few real shining lights for the Dogs. Still in only around 10,000 teams he offers good POD value, as well as being priced a bit below his current average of 113.
FORWARD
ROOKIES
Sam Kerridge (ADE) M/F 204k 69 +55k
Kerridge is similar to Daw, in that he's already risen around 100 grand, but has a 121 score to stay in his average for the next couple of rounds and should still produce some solid cash. For the coaches looking to make a quick 100 grand and jump off, he may be a decent choice.
MID-PRICERS
Jack Riewoldt (RIC) FWD 441.8k 92
JRoo is looking decent value, priced at under 450 grand and always capable of kicking a bag. So far this season he hasn't been able to manage the kind of form he has shown previously but if he can start to kick a few more he could be a great buy. Currently in around 28,000 teams.
PREMIUMS
Nick Riewoldt (StK) FWD 605.1k 120
The original Roo has been in blinding form for the last few weeks, looking to be back to his best and averaging 120 for the season to put him in 4th place overall. Priced at over 600 grand he is now priced around his average and doesn't offer great value, but if he can keep averaging 120 in the forward line no-one will really care. Great POD pick for his only 12,000 coaches to date.
Steve Johnson (GEE) M/F 585.6k 115
Stevie J has also been in great form, averaging 115 and spending considerable time in the midfield. As always he's capable of massive games and quiet ones, but so far the Stevie J rollercoaster has come out well ahead for the 26,000 with him so far.
Dustin MARTIN (RIC) M/F 551.8k 111
Dusty has started to play out full games, and his average has been benefiting from it nicely. Now up to 111 for the season his price fits the numbers, but a 110+ in the forward-line is likely to entice a few coaches anyway. Currently in a sizable 85,000 squads, you won't get much POD value here unfortunately.
Tom Rockliff (BRI) M/F 532.2k 110
Rocky just pips Dusty for selection numbers with around 89,000 coaches with him in their side, but if you're one of those without him you should certainly give him a look. Priced around 20 grand under his average he offers a bit of value, and if he can continue to deliver in the same fashion should make his way into a lot more sides.
