<p style='font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 18px;]This week the Best Buys are doing a split-round, with the teams playing on Anzac day covered here, and then the rest in another Best Buys edition out on Anzac Day itself.
<p style='font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 18px;]Due to this, there is no Best Buy today, as this week's selection isn't playing until the weekend, so you'll have to wait another night for that one.
Unfortunately a family emergency has put me 2 days behind this week, and Iapologizefor the break in schedule, but hopefully the Best Buys can be as informative and useful as ever.
So now, onto the Best Buys.
DEFENSE
ROOKIES
Nathan Wright (StK) DEF 109.5k 41 +25k
MID-PRICERS
Michael HIBBERD (ESS) DEF 442k 99
Hibberd has progressed well in his short time in the AFL, drafted behind Heppell he has been often overlooked for him but is showing similar levels of output. Averaging 99 for the season (2ppg less than Heppell) he is 50 grand cheaper and showing more consistency. Unlikely to be tagged and a good POD in only 10,000 teams or so compared to Heppell's 77,000.
Nick Malceski (SYD) DEF 442.9k 98
Malceski has started the year in good form, averaging 98 to date and looking set to rise another 30 odd grand in price this week. A solid POD selection he has been somewhat unreliable in the past, and his only 7,000 selections reflect this.
Jarryn Geary (StK) DEF 418.1k 95
Geary has also started the year well, averaging 95 for around 420 grand. While the Saints haven't looked their strongest so far, Geary has been improving at a solid rate. Around 7,500 selections to date.
PREMIUMS
Brendon Goddard (ESS) D/M 556.3k 110
BJ is already in a large chunk of teams, around 175,000 of them, so I won't go into much detail. A good average of 110 indicates he will remain a top defender in 2013.
MIDFIELD
ROOKIES
Josh THOMAS (COL) MID 115.9k 57 +44k
Dane Rampe (SYD) MID 96.2k 46 +35k
MID-PRICERS
David Armitage (StK) MID 516.4k 111
Armitage is another good young player on the rise, averaging 111 and now priced at just over 500 grand he has been a sneaky POD for the 3,000 odd (probably) Saints fans that already have him. If he can maintain his current form he is a real bargain.
Ben HOWLETT (ESS) MID 493.7k 114
Howlett has now lost the title of The New Stanton”, with Stanton himself sneaking back into the lead on averages. Still, his 114 average for under 500 grand looks very tasty, but in all likelihood Howlett may only average 90-95 for the remainder of the year. Now in around 10,000 squads he is still a pretty risky POD option, and looking at a small price drop this week.
Daniel Hannebery (SYD) MID 499.2k 107
Dan Hannebery is still looking great value, averaging near 110 and priced at 500 grand. His natural progression has seen him take a step up this year, and the 15,000 teams with him currently in are hoping he can remain a POD for some weeks yet.
PREMIUMS
Dane Swan (COL) MID 635.2k 125
Swannie has done what elite midfielders should do, and that's average 120+ and provide a solid captain alternative. The Pies game-plan has been shifting more noticeably recently, with Bucks implementing his own style more and more, however Swan seems to be unaffected and continues to rack up the numbers. Currently the 8th highest average for 2013, and looking worth every cent.
Jarrad McVeigh (SYD) MID 562.5k 113
McVeigh has surprised a few coaches this season, turning back the clock and averaging a very healthy 113. With JPK getting more attention the other Swans midfielders seem to be enjoying the extra freedom and as a unit seem to be stepping up again this year. Currently in under 4,000 teams.
RUCK
MID-PRICERS
Ben Hudson (COL) RUC 497.3k 102
Huddo has come back into some good form, proving that he still has a bit to offer at the highest level for the Pies. With Jolly injured and Collingwood's younger ruck brigade still emerging Hudson could well continue this form and offer great value. Averaging over 100 for under 500 grand, on paper he matches up with what most coaches are looking for in their fantasy players.
PREMIUMS
Ben McEvoy (StK) RUC 590.1k 119
Big Ben has continued his good form, averaging just under 120 and priced at a little under 600 grand. His work around the ground continues to be his strength, and if the Sainters as a whole can find some form he should continue to pump out the numbers.
FORWARD
PREMIUMS
Travis Cloke (COL) FWD 515.9k 125
Cloke has been on fire on the last couple of games, managing a near 200 to take his average for the season to 125 and level with Dane Swan. Cloke has some well documented consistency issues, but if he can keep his form up offers great value. Looking set to rise by over 60 grand this week going by his average a few will jump on, but it wouldn't actually surprise me to see Carlisle get it over him this week. Around 30,000 selections to date.
Nick Riewoldt (StK) FWD 529.2k 105
Roo continues to revel in the reduced attention he seems to be receiving, not winning games off his own boot but providing great support up forward and managing a very nice 105 average while doing so. The days of a 120 average seem past him now, but in under 10,000 teams the POD factor may help him find his way into a lot more teams over the season.
WAITING LIST
Scott Pendlebury (COL) MID 650k 128 -14k
Jobe Watson (ESS) MID 631.6k 123 -22k
Josh P. Kennedy (SYD) MID 620.7k 118 -17k
