<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Welcome all the first proper edition of the Best Buys for 2013.
<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Here we'll be looking at the players that ripped it up in the first round, and in a bit more detail the Point Of Difference (POD) players among them.
<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]The Best Buy from me for this week, is no-one. I personally don't think anyone should be trading this week, even the 70,000 odd coaches with Le Cras would be best served holding for a week if they have cover for him, however you aren't here to listen to me tell you what to do with your trades, you're here for the Best Buys.

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]This week, and next, the Best Buys will be a bit different to the rest of the season. As we're only 1 round into proceedings a lot of the scores so far may be flukes, and it's hard to tell which are which until we see some more footy. Almost 80 players topped 100 points in SC this round, so there are quite a few players, like Michael HIBBERD for instance, that probably would normally make the list but didn't. We'll only look at players who scored over 100, and focus on the less popular picks of those.

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]The rookies again I won't go into detail, but will include those that scored over 60 and show the current number of selections for them also.

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Best Buys is all about value, and as such some players who score well but aren't priced appropriately may not get mentioned. There will also always be some players who for whatever reason do not make the Best Buys, and you are encouraged to discuss them below in the comments section.

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]These guys below are the popular/premium players that scored well in round 1, I won't talk about any of these guys as I'm sure you already know all about them. The number after the # mark is the amount of SC teams they were selected in for Round 1. Of note is Smitch, Swallow, Lids and Ducky all seem to be more POD's then I would have thought.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Gary Ablett (GCS) MID 740.5k 178 #130,000

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]And now, without further ado, here are this week's Best Buys.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]DEFENSE

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Brett Goodes (WBD) D/M 128.2k 113

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Campbell Heath (PTA) DEF 115.9k 70

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Joel WILKINSON (GCS) DEF 171.2k 68

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Lewis Stevenson (PTA) DEF 115.9k 66

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Cameron O'Shea (PTA) DEF 168.5k 65
    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]MID-PRICERS

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Charlie DIXON (GCS) DEF 393.3k 130

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Charlie played one of the games of his life on the weekend, racking up contested possessions and tackles and throwing in a few hit-outs to go with his 2 goals. Somewhat maligned in his first season when he failed to shine, he has been improving nicely since and is certainly one to watch. Definite POD, currently in 1200 SC teams, but GCS can't be expected to win every week.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Danyle Pearce (FRE) D/M 458.8k 130

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]The move to Freo seems to have suited Pearce, putting in a great game on the weekend to manage a very nice 130. If he can keep up the 100+ scores then as a defender currently in only 15,000 teams he offers great value.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Courtenay Dempsey (ESS) DEF 418.4k 124

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Dempsey put in a ripper on the weekend; although the hard-fought win certainly helped with Bombers scoring he seemed to be playing a much better brand of football. It will be very interesting to see how the Essendon line-up settles over the next few rounds. Only in 4,000 teams.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Hamish Hartlett (PTA) D/M 489k 123

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Hartlett repaid the faith of the 35,000 coaches that selected him for round 1 with a very nice 123. The Power can't be expected to put in that many beltings this season but Hartlett looked well worth the investment.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Jack Grimes (MEL) DEF 472.4k 122

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Grimey also managed a very healthy score in the same game, playing predominantly through the mid-field, but is in only around 12,000 teams at this stage. Realistically though any of Birchall, Grimes and Hartlett will have their coaches smiling.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Nick Suban (FRE) DEF 276.4k 120

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Nick Suban put in a massive game for Freo, scoring 120 points and showing great value for his sub 300k price-tag. Being selected by less than 10,000 coaches he is a certain POD, but will need to be closely monitored to see how long he can keep it up for. If can do it again next week he could make some nice coin for his owners after round 3.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Alex Rance (RIC) DEF 464.8k 104

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Rance put in a solid showing for the Tiges, and was only in around 6,000 teams for round 1. He has shown over the past season that he is a generally reliable scorer and is priced well for what he can deliver. However with players such as Houli underperforming and D. Grimes yet to return it might be worthwhile waiting on Rance for a few more rounds.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Beau Waters (WCE) DEF 536.5k 117

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Beau put in a great game in a losing side, and was the top scorer for the Eagles. Those burnt by him last season will probably need to get over that relatively quickly, as if he remains injury free he will likely be a top 5 defender come years end.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Grant Birchall (HAW) DEF 506.4k 122

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Birch showed why 25,000 coaches started the year with him this year, putting in a great game for the Hawks and managing a very nice 122. Lake is yet to debut, and will need to be watched to see how it affects Birch's role, but he seems pretty safe so far.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Jack Viney (MEL) MID 109.5k 117

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]MID-PRICERS

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Ben HOWLETT (ESS) MID 447.5k 164

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Howlett certainly had one out of the box” and smashed out a huge 164 in the win over the Crows, giving the 834 Essendon supporters who had him smiles for the next week. Alright I don't know they're Essendon supporters but I reckon it's a fairly safe bet. Priced at under 450 grand he showed some real potential, but coaches need to remember Stanton last year. If he can manage something similar next week it may be worth jumping on, but be ready to jump off again if things start heading south.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Michael BARLOW (FRE) MID 509.5k 144

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Barlow proved those coaches who claimed him more of a DT player, me included, very wrong last week racking up 144 points and leading the Freo midfield. An excellent selection so far by the 6,000 coaches that have him, I'd expect that number to at least double before the prices change.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Tom LIBERATORE (WBD) MID 444.4k 130

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Libba looks to be an astute selection so far, admittedly in a bit of a thrashing, but playing good hard footy and stepping up in Boyd's absence. As a POD mid-pricer he offers some tasty value, and has found his way into less than 2,000 teams to date.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]David Mundy (FRE) MID 477.3k 126

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Mundy came into a lot of coach's calculations after his 126 against the Eagles, looking very smooth and providing a lot of the contested ball out of the centre for the Dockers. A cheap price for the potential on offer he will find himself in a lot more teams than the 11,000 odd that currently hold him.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Stephen Hill (FRE) MID 432.6k 120

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Quite a few of the Dockers had good games in the Derby, with Hill also managing to hit 120 and earn himself a spot on a lot of coaches watch lists. The young midfielder will have plenty of support from bigger bodied teammates, but whether or not he can maintain this level of scoring is still certainly up for debate. Currently in around 3,000 teams.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Travis Boak (PTA) MID 481.5k 109

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Boak returned a solid 109, albeit in a belting of the Dees, but looked in good form and seemingly over his injury niggles. If he can keep his fitness levels up and stay uninjured he could be a worthwhile choice, but may still struggle to be a top 10 mid this season.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Aaron Mullett (NM) MID 279.1k 103

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]The Mullett without a mullet managed a very nice return of 103 for the 1300 coaches that chose him, and if he can manage near that for the next few rounds will make some good upgrade cash for those that took the punt. Certainly been under the radar to date, and as such will warrant further observation.
    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 13.5pt; background-color: #ffffff;]<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Daniel Wells(NM) MID 529.7k 107[/b]
<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 13.5pt; background-color: #ffffff;]Wells is in under 2000 teams so far, and has previously been a fairly inconsistent player. Some would say he was lucky to get off for his bump on the weekend but his 107 points showed that he was worth the risk. Priced a bit on the high-side for a player with his consistency issues Wells will be hoping to put in a break-out year for North this season.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Ryan Griffen (WBD) MID 567.4k 138

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Griffen is a huge POD, in under 3,000 teams for round 1, and is capable of good scores on a regular basis. Having said that, his 138 in a belting of the Lions probably isn't to be expected very often. With Boyd to return and the Dogs set to lose at least the occasional match this year Griffen may not outscore the favourites each week, but is a cheap alternative and not too risky a POD option.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Brent Stanton (ESS) MID 559.7k 117

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Stanton started 2012 in great form, only to drop off considerably in the latter half of the season. With Goddard now running around the Dons midfield as well as Watson and Heppell some of the attention may go off Stanton again leaving him free to resume his high scoring ways from early 2012. Around 3,500 selections so far in SC means he could be worth a punt short-term.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Kieren Jack (SYD) MID 601.4k 116

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]I can only assume that Jack's price-tag put many coaches off, after a great 2012 season he has only been picked up by around 7,500 coaches and offers some good POD value. The Sydney midfield is a strong unit, but JPK seems to be getting all the attention to date.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Steele Sidebottom (COL) MID 568.4k 116

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Sidey will be overlooked by many coaches for Swan or Pendles, and probably even Beams when he returns. Up and down last season he showed he is capable of good scoring but just needs to bring some consistency into his game, something his 6,000 coaches will be banking on.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]RUCK

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]MID-PRICERS
    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 497.9k 121

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Goldy showed on the weekend why he is still the number 1 ruck for the Roos, outclassing Jolly and managing a very healthy 121. Pre-season worries around the ruck situation at North led to only around 18,000 coaches picking Goldy, even at his lower end price. Unless injured Goldy should hold onto the first ruck spot.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Shane Mumford (SYD) RUC 486.9k 116

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Mummy had a decent game, albeit against GWS, and for his price is looking to be good value this year if he can stay fit. Selected by 23,000 coaches so far he isn't quite the POD some others are, but is still a worthy proposition.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Jonathon Griffin (FRE) RUC 491.4k 116

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Griffin appears to have the number 1 ruck spot at Freo sown up for the next few months, and with their midfield depth and under 6,000 coaches selecting him he appears to be a great choice. He outclassed Cox in the Derby, which is no mean feat, and looks set for big things this year.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Matthew Kreuzer (CAR) RUC 494.1k 113

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Kreuz had a nice return of 113 for the 31,000 coaches that selected him, but in all honesty any of the three above would probably be safer options at this stage. A tough run first up for the Blues may result in not many wins, and Kreuz's consistency has been a large issue in the past.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Will Minson (WBD) RUC 508.8k 126

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Big will has only made it into 1800 teams so far, with the Doggies widely tipped to be rubbish, but showed in their first match of the season that they think otherwise. A great POD with very little competition for ruckwork, Wilbur could be in for a break-out season. Will be interesting to see how he scores in a loss.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Andrew Walker (CAR) M/F 423.4k 137

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Walks was sent back to the defense for the opening round, and relished the role racking up uncontested possessions and taking a lot of the kick-ins for the Blues. If he remains in this role he could offer some good value, however opposition teams will start tagging him, as they did in the latter half of the Richmond game, which can severely affect his scores. Currently in under 6,000 teams.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Jay Schulz (PTA) FWD 432.7k 134

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Schulz put in a massive game against the Dees, racking up 20 possessions and 4 goals, but again Port can't be expected to double their opponents score each week. A legitimate break-out contender and solid POD with only 2,500 selection so far Schulz is one to keep an eye on over the coming rounds.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Chris Mayne (FRE) FWD 431.6k 120

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Mayne was another of the Dockers to star in their win over the Eagles, the mid-priced forward managing a nice 120 and offering good value. Only selected by 3,000 coaches he is a solid POD option and offers plenty of potential.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Tory Dickson (WBD) FWD 374.2k 118

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Tory Dickson impressed in the thumping of the Lions, the solid small forward managing 118 and putting on some great forward pressure. Quite a risky selection, but the 1,000 or so coaches with him so far would have to be pleased.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Angus Monfries (PTA) M/F 356.7k 112

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Wantsfrees was discussed a fair bit over the pre-season, until he had some minor injury issues and was dropped by many coaches. Now in around 18,000 teams he has repaid the faith with a solid 112 and looks to be a great forward option, especially at his current price.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Tyson Goldsack (COL) FWD 343.2k 108

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Goldy came back into contention for a few with a solid 108 as a sub 350 grand forward, however with a few key Pies to return their line-up is still somewhat debatable. In around 3,500 teams he is a clear POD, but may have some JS issues.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]James PODSIADLY (GEE) FWD 393.1k 106

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]JPod looked to be back in form on Monday, providing some good leads and a big physical presence in the Cats win over the Hawkers. Getting on in years now JPod only managed 3,000 selections for round 1, but with his fairly cheap price and good showing may find himself in a fair few more line-ups soon.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Matthew WRIGHT (ADE) M/F 475.3k 102

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Matty Wright offered good value for the 6,000 coaches to take the punt on him, managing to crack 100 in a losing side is good for a forward and even better for a sub 500 grand one. After taking a step-up last season Wright looks to be continuing on with his good form.

    <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Cyril Rioli (HAW) M/F 527.3k 114

<p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; line-height: 13.5pt;]Cyril has had well documented injury issues over his career, and this explains his somewhat low selection numbers of around 20,000. Playing more through the midfield than he has in previous years, if Cyril can keep himself on the park he may finally have the year he's been threatening to for a while now.
