Welcome once again to another edition of Best Buys.
After a brutal SC round for many, and a bloody long one at that, a lot of coaches will be looking to patch some holes this week and attempt to stay within touch of the leaders.
And speaking of leaders, that segways nicely into our Best Buy for the week, Robbie Gray.
Currently sharing top spot on the SC leaderboard, for forwards anyway, Gray also happens to play for the ladder leaders and is averaging 110 for a forward. Not bad at all, especially when you also consider he's only made it into around 30,000 teams so far this season.
DEFENSE
MID-PRICERS
Lynden Dunn (MEL) DEF 462.7k 93
Dunn has really excelled this season so far under Roosy, scoring a 145 on Monday to bring his season's average up to 93 and his price to just over 460 grand. A versatile player who has spent time both forward and down back this year Dunn is still building consistency but has shown the potential to go large. A mid-priced punt, Dunn has under 2,000 selections so far this year and will likely increase in value by around 33 grand this week.
Brodie Smith (ADE) DEF 479.4k 96
Smith is another up-and-coming young defender, averaging 96 for the season and priced at just under 480 grand. The Crows upcoming run looks fairly good really, but with Henderson due to return soon some may be wondering if a change of role is on the cards. Around 7,000 coaches have backed in Smith so far, making him a decent POD option.
Pearce Hanley (BRI) D/M 439.8k 89
Hanley was a popular pick early in the year before succumbing to injury, but appears to be bouncing back into form now nicely. A 119 on the weekend brought his season's average to 89, showing why around 30,000 coaches have kept the faith. Looking at around a 20 grand price rise this week, and the Lions playing some decent footy in the last 2 weeks, Hanley looks to be another good defensive pick once again.
PREMIUMS
Nick Malceski (SYD) DEF 536.2k 103
Mal has hit a bit of a purple patch of late, bringing his season's average to 103 for his 12,000 odd coaches and his price to around 353 grand. Priced slightly overs for his season's average he has really stood up over the last few weeks, and is a great smoky option for your backline.
MIDFIELD
ROOKIES
Zac O'Brien (BRI) MID 102.4k 58 +49k
O'Brien was a fairly popular early trade in last week, but now that he's on the bubble some doubts are starting to emerge. Tearing open his first game with a 100 he looked a bit more subdued in his second outing, only managing 16 points for the game. This gives him an average of 58 and an expected price rise of around 50 grand to go with his bargain basement price, however his scoring ability and job security must now come into question.
Ben Newton (PTA) MID 123.9k 38 +17k
Newton has slipped under the radar for most, bringing himself onto the bubble this week with an average of 38 from his first 2 games. With his starting price of around 124 grand he is only likely to rise by around 17 grand this week though, so for those with an interest you can probably afford to wait another week on him.
Clay Beams (BRI) MID 229.4k 71 +37k
Beams brought himself off the bubble in his last match, and while not a rookie is still priced just low enough for me to include him here. Now costing 230 grand with an average of 71 he doesn't seem the greatest value, but if he can remain uninjured he should have great job security and scored a nice 99 in his last game which will help his cash generation for the next few weeks at the least. Around 11,000 coaches have grabbed Beams so far, and with an expected price rise of almost 40 grand this week if you're keen then now's the time to do it.
MID-PRICERS
Adam Treloar (GWS) MID 540.4k 113
Treloar has made it back into the Best Buys this week, with his average of 113 for the season to date and under 7,000 selections so far. With a price of 540 grand he offers good value for those willing to take a risk, and is one of the better performing mids this season on numbers alone. He might not be top 10 by the end of the year, but if he isn't top 20 I'll be more than surprised.
Marc Murphy (CAR) MID 549.6k 111
SMurph has been up and down this season as he adjusts to heavier tags and increased responsibility, but so far I have to say he's done pretty well. Averaging 111 for the season and priced at just under 550 grand he offers decent value, and always has the potential to go large. With Gibbs pulling out some blinders recently SMurph may have the attention dialled back slightly from here, but either way his 40,000 coaches should be pleased with how he's gone.
Jack Redden (BRI) MID 536.4k 106
Redden has certainly flown under the radar this season, averaging 106 for the year and costing around 535 grand but with only around 2,000 selections to his name. While unlikely to make the top 10 mids on averages now this season, he does have the ability to go top 10 mids from here on out. It's a big risk, as the Lions really need to keep playing the way they have for the last 2 weeks for the rest of the year, but if risk is what you're after then Reddo could be your man.
PREMIUMS
Tom Rockliff (BRI) MID 647.2k 124
Rocky had a bit of a down game on the weekend, but still managed to top the 100 mark for his 24,000 teams bringing his season's average to 124. Priced at just under 650 grand he is pretty much spot on for his numbers, and is ranked 3rd overall in SC this year for average. Clearly a player with the potential to remain a top 10 mid, he really just needs to stay on the park.
Callan Ward (GWS) MID 588.5k 115
Ward is back again, with his 115 average and 590 grand price tag, trying to tempt more than the current 10,000 coaches into giving him a chance. Still working on his consistency, as the majority of his teammates are, Ward has been a great leader for the Giants and is really coming into his own. Priced on the high side of his current numbers he has been better value before, but the Giants have a solid run home and Ward will be leading the charge.
Rory Sloane (ADE) MID 553.3k 111
Sloane has also been in and out of the Best Buys a bit this season, and while he was a great starting pick many have stated he doesn't have the value to be considered from here on out. Personally however, having looked at Adelaide's run home, I tend to disagree. Averaging 111 for the season and with only 8,000 selections to his name Sloane is a consistent scorer and always has the potential to go 130. With Danger copping the hard tags and Sloaney costing only 555 grand, he has POD risk written all over him.

RUCK
MID-PRICERS
Zach Smith (GCS) RUC 432.4k 91
The Suns have really struggled with their rucks this year, seemingly going through their entire list of available big men just trying to keep one on the park. This has brought Zach Smith back into the side after his extended injury lay-off, and so far he's holding his own quite nicely. Averaging 91 from his matches this year Smith scored a 115 in his last game and is looking at a 20 grand price rise this week, and with under 2,000 selections so far could be a very nice POD. The Suns have certainly impressed this year, and you would think with the way they are playing that there are some points up for grabs in their ruck-line.
Nic Naitanui (WCE) RUC 422k 78
After shocking first half of the year Nic Nat appears to be bouncing back into some good form lately, topping the 100 in his last 2 games for his 21,000 coaches. Priced at around 420 grand he offers good value, if he can continue to perform, and is looking at a 20 grand price rise after his next game. Will probably be the most popular starting ruckman next year.
Matthew Lobbe (PTA) RUC 470.3k 92
Lobbe finally came good on the weekend, pumping out a 150 for the 10,000 coaches to have kept the faith in him. It probably helps being in the ladder-leading team as well. Priced reasonably at 470 grand for his years average of 92, not many coaches will be likely to jump on Lobbe from here on, meaning if he can keep performing he should be an excellent POD.
Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 473.9k 93
Goldy is another ruckman to impress on the weekend, managing a massive 166 against Maric and bringing his season's average back up to 93. With around 11,000 picks Goldy is nowhere near as popular as he was last season, but has shown he still has the potential to go just as large. Looking at a 20 grand price rise after his next game, the Roos will be banking on Goldy keeping the big number coming.
PREMIUMS
Shane Mumford (GWS) RUC 533.6k 120
Mummy was on fire early in the season, before going down with an injury and frustrating the majority of his SC coaches. Now seemingly back to form after topping the 100 on the weekend Mummy is still averaging 120 for the season, but obviously from fairly limited games. Priced at just over 530 grand and still sitting in around 27,000 sides Mummy isn't a huge POD, but certainly has the potential for big points.

FORWARD
ROOKIES
Jeremy McGovern (WCE) FWD 123.9k 65 +52k
McGovern is another rookie to fly under the radar a bit, but with a 65 average from his first 2 games that won't last for long. Now on the bubble and facing a 50 grand price rise after his next game, McGovern will likely be a very popular trade in target this week if named again.
MID-PRICERS
Dayne Zorko (BRI) M/F 408.9k 93
Zorko has made it back into the Best Buys this week, on the back of a 110 point game which is expected to give him a near 40 grand price rise after his next game. With 66,000 selections so far he certainly isn't a POD, but could well be a negative POD for those without him. Priced at just over 400 grand he offers great value, but needs to bring more consistency to his game.
Jarryd Roughead (HAW) FWD 478.7k 95
Roughy has been very up and down this season, as shown by his 184 in his last game. Obviously he won't be expected to kick bags every match, but when he does he seems to make the other times worthwhile. Priced at just under 480 grand and averaging 95 for the season Roughies 50,000 coaches will be hoping he can at least average over 100 from here on out.
Devon Smith (GWS) M/F 454k 86
Another Smith to make this week's Best Buys, Devon is an interesting one. Priced at just over 450 grand and averaging 86 for the season he hasn't been incredibly impressive, but with M/F positioning and a 112 score from his last match he does have some appeal. Sitting in around 3,000 sides he has some good POD value, and the Giants will be looking to finish the season strongly.
PREMIUMS
Brent Harvey (NM) M/F 578.2k 110
Boomer is still scoring apparently, as his 110 average for the year seems to indicate. Age hasn't seemed to slow him down too dramatically, as his 27,000 coaches will attest, and this season forwards with an average of 110 aren't exactly abundant. North will be fighting hard to get to finals this season, and while the team has some major consistency concerns, Boomer isn't one of them. Priced at 578 grand and a little highly, really you get what you pay for.
Robbie Gray (PTA) M/F 569.1k 110
After several weeks in the Best Buys Gray has now claimed the top spot, as Best Buy for the week. Averaging 110 for the season and priced at 570 grand he offers reasonable value, but with only 30,000 picks to far is a good POD choice as well. Playing for the ladder leaders probably helps, but Gray is really looking like a break-out season is occurring. Along with Dangerfield, Boomer and Stef Martin (after 1 game), Gray is the highest scoring forward so far this year.
