We won't be going into bye strategies, as there is already plenty of information floating around on the topic such as if this week is the best for a double-downgrade to accommodate upgrades over the rest of the byes or not, instead we'll just focus on the players looking like being good value.

Just squeaking into the mid-priced section for midfielders after a few quiet games he bounced back solidly over the weekend, and hopefully can continue on that form. Spending more time through the midfield, and appreciating the excess chips going around, on the weekend Swannie looked more like the star of seasons past once again.

    DEFENSE

    ROOKIES

    Will Sierakowski (NM) DEF 139.8k 42 +21k

Sierakowski isn't on the bubble this week, as he broke through after his last game, but still priced at under 140 grand we're squeezing him in. Averaging a decent but not great average of 42 he is likely to rise around 20 grand after his next match. In a very limited field during the byes, with only 2/3 teams to choose from, he may well get a Guernsey based on cover potential alone.

    MID-PRICERS

Michael HIBBERD (ESS) DEF 488.6k 102

No premium defenders this week, but some of the mid-pricers are looking pretty tasty led by previous Best Buy Hibberd. Priced 20 grand or more under his current average of 102 Hibberd has been amazing this year, and is in near All-Australian form. Still in under 23,000 teams, and looking likely to eclipse Heppell this season.

    Bryce Gibbs (CAR) D/M 466.7k 99

Gibbs has looked good since his return from injury, during which a decent number of coaches traded him out, and for under 470 grand he looks great value. Consistency and now injuries remain an issue for Gibbs, but as he is still in almost 100,000 squads there will be a lot of
coaches facing the same problems if he spuds or injures himself again.

Nick Malceski (SYD) DEF 440.9k 92

Malceski has been a bit up and down so far this season, but he does have a bit of a history of that anyway. Averaging 92 and priced at about that mark he is currently in around 11,000 teams and the Swans still look real flag contenders. Malceski always has the potential to go large, but has some pretty quiet games on occasion also.

    MIDFIELD

    ROOKIES

    Dean Kent (MEL) MID 132k 39 +21k

Kent is around the bubble, but averaging 39 and getting hammered in the Dee's constant drubbings. If he continues to get games he will likely end up a decent slow-burn cash cow, but at this stage of the season is an unlikely inclusion for the majority of teams.

    Mark HUTCHINGS (WCE) MID 180.1k 76 +62k

Hutchings continued on with his great form over the weekend, bumping his price up to 180 grand. While not on the bubble he is set to rise over 100 grand more in the next few weeks, but the level of his opposition to date has seen many coaches ignore him.

    MID-PRICERS

Dane Swan (COL) MID 523.3k 112

Swannie the mid-pricer. Not sure that we'll be seeing that too often, so if it appeals to you I'd suggest you jump on quick. Averaging a poor (for Swan) 112 for the season, on the weekend Swan spent a bit more time in the guts and benefitted from it nicely with a return to his general numbers. Being the star that he is, it's pretty safe to assume that he'll bounce back, and sooner rather than later. Currently in around 85,000 teams, which to me is unders by a bit.

Andrew Swallow (NM) MID 535.1k 111

Swallow has been on a few coaches radars for a while now, particularly after his 10 clearance quarter a year or two back, but just hasn't quite managed to deliver that same level of form consistently. Averaging 111 for the season he is by no means a slouch anyway, but if he can really hit his straps he will surely become elite. Priced at a bit under his average he offers some good value, and is somewhat of a POD in only 25,000 teams.

Brent Stanton (ESS) MID 471.6k 103

I had a few POD-hunters asking me about Stanton last week, and they raised a good point. Priced at around 470 grand and averaging 103 he is certainly under-priced, and going by last season's scoring is a decent chance to finish the year averaging more. Currently in under 5,000 teams so has clear POD value, however for those happy to wait a week or two the Joel Selwood will be the same price. I know which one I'd prefer.

    PREMIUMS

Gary Ablett (GCS) MID 679.5k 136

Gazza. Averaging 136 and priced just below 680 grand, permacaptain.

Scott Pendlebury (COL) MID 610.9k 126

Pendles is still hanging on to second place with an average of 126, and doesn't look like dropping off anytime soon. With a 3 week average of 119 he has been very consistent recently for his 110,000 coaches, and is slightly under-priced.

Richard Douglas (ADE) MID 570.7k 111

Douglas continues to impress, and is now averaging 111 (only 1 ppg behind Swan) for the season. Currently priced on the high-side of his range for scoring, he isn't as great value as some others, but with only 2,000 odd selections so far surely his POD value must make up for it.

    RUCK

    ROOKIES

    Daniel GORRINGE (GCS) RUC 149.8k 58 +37k

Gorringe has performed well in the absence of Smith and Dixon, averaging 58 he is on the bubble for this year and priced at a decent 150 grand. The only real downgrade option in the rucks he will likely see a few more selections this week, but the return of either of the aforementioned two will likely have a decent impact on his scoring potential.

    MID-PRICERS

Matthew Kreuzer (CAR) RUC 407.8k 85

The Kreuz is returning to form slowly, but to be fair has always struggled with injuries and consistency. With MM's focus on versatile players he appears to have been rewarded, at least in comparison to Warnock and Hampson, and if he can stay on the park should continue to score at least reasonably well for the remainder of the year. Priced at just over 400 grand and in around 21,000 teams to date he has some decent POD potential, and his current coaches will be hoping he can keep up the numbers from the weekend.

Shane Mumford (SYD) RUC 394.2k 82

Mummy has been shocking this season, averaging just over 80 and suffering a pretty hefty price-drop. The main reason he's made it into the Best Buys this week, is that he's broken under the 400 grand price barrier (as well as scoring near 120 last week). With Pyke's improvement and Tippett still to make his way into the side Mummy's future looks pretty uncertain, but if he can get back to his old form that price is a bargain and sure to annoy the 19,000 coaches who already have him.

    PREMIUMS

Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 558.9k 114

Goldy is back in the Best Buys this week, and still looking a good choice. Currently in around 32,000 teams he is only behind Wilbur in the ruck averages, both now beating out the sizable group of R/F's. Like all players really he'll be a bit up and down, but North will be looking to really push for finals this year and will need the big man to really step up again to make it happen.

    FORWARD

    ROOKIES

    George BURBURY (GEE) FWD 115.9k 57 +44k

Burbury is another of the Cats' young rookies to get pushed through the side, and after playing a couple of matches is also on the bubble. Averaging 57 and likely to rise over 40 grand this week he looks a decent option, but job security for rookies is always pretty doubtful in the current Geelong outfit.

    MID-PRICERS

Adam Goodes (SYD) FWD 489.5k 91

Goodesy has had a tough couple of weeks, and has responded like the champion that he is. After a slow start to the year due to injury he has hit his straps and is starting to look like the Goodes of old. Set to rise over 30 grand in price this week and in only 15,000 teams so far, Goodesy offers some good value (on potential) and could provide great forward cover after the upgrading.

    PREMIUMS

    Brent Harvey (NM) M/F 529.5k 115

Boomer is another old gun to get back to some ripping form after missing some early games, averaging 115 in the forward line and looking like a sprightly 30 year-old in the process. His price is a bit under for his current average, but the small sample size will be affecting that a fair amount. Around 14,000 selections so far and counting, the delayed start to the season looks to have set Boomer up very nicely for the remainder of the year.

    Jimmy Bartel (GEE) M/F 565.7k 113

Bartel had another great game on the weekend, irritating a decent number of coaches who had picked Stevie J as Captain over Gaz. The same stuff I've said about him all year still applies now, and Abrtel will likely remain a leading forward for the rest of the season.

    Andrew Walker (CAR) M/F 501.3k 110

Walks bounced back on the weekend with a massive 150 after some poorer games. A bit inconsistent still but priced well below his average Walker offers some great value, and is always a risk to score large. Currently about 50,000 coaches have got him in their side, but that will likely increase over the bye period.

    WAITING LIST

    Jobe Watson (ESS) MID 615.8k 119 -5k

    Josh P. Kennedy (SYD) MID 581.8k 116 -22k

Patrick Dangerfield (ADE) MID 599.2k 112

    Nick Riewoldt (StK) FWD 546.1k 111 -20k

    Joel Selwood (GEE) MID 491.3k 104 -12k

I do apologize for the briefness of this weeks article, and waiting list, but rest assured that after next week I'll have a bit more spare time once again to really focus on the Best Buys. Either way I hope they are helpful, and best of luck to all over the coming weeks.
