Luckily however there are some pretty good options going around the traps this week, and the Best Buys is here to help you sort which ones are the best for you.

Most coaches heard the raps on him pre-season, but after seeing him demolish the GCS defense in his last game a fair few more are now paying notice. With a rookie scarcity hitting the forwards and the backs, young Joe will be very popular trade in this week, and those with Stakes will be loving the option to trade out a defender for him (hi Birch).

    DEFENSE
    ROOKIES

    Blayne WILSON (WCE) DEF 115.9k 73 +65k
Wilson has slipped under the radar for most coaches so far, with the rookie attention being mainly on Nicholls and Mitchell, but has performed pretty well in his 2 games so far. Averaging 73 and facing a 65 grand price rise he has excellent timing, going on the bubble at just the right time, but his job security is a bit unknown with a couple of Eagles defenders currently out of the picture.

    MID-PRICERS

Garrick Ibbotson (FRE) DEF 496.4k 103
Ibbo has been a real surprise package lately, after not being sighted in the early rounds he has broken into the Freo side and is now averaging 103 for the year. Priced at just under 500 grand he looks a good POD option for Birchall this week, as his total selections are still under the 20,000 mark.

    PREMIUMS

    Bryce Gibbs (CAR) D/M 503.3k 105
Gibbs seems to be over his earlier injury issues, and back to his normal, sem-well scoring self. Averaging 105 for the season and still in a sizable 100,000+ teams his consistency is generally a strength while his score ceiling isn't quite as high as some others.

Heath Shaw (COL) DEF 557.9k 107
Heater will likely be a popular pick this week, stupidity aside. Sitting in just under 55,000 teams to date he has been a solid performer this season, but only when he's been on the park. Slightly pricier then he has been recently his 3 game average of 126 is still driving his value up, and if he can keep up that form and not get suspended he looks to be a great buy.

    MIDFIELD
    MID-PRICERS

    Josh P. Kennedy (SYD) MID 540.1k 113
JPK is on the list this week due to his price, and because a lot of people asked about him last week. Under 550 grand he offers a good deal on potential, but with a 3 game average of 106 he is still likely to lose some decent cash over the coming weeks. 80,000 selections and counting, but personally it seems to me that not having JPK might be the better POD move from here.

Leigh Montagna (StK) MID 545.7k 112
Joey has been in great form recently, averaging 112 and providing a decent amount of the grunt work in the Saints engine room. Priced at under 550 grand but likely to rise by another 20 or so this week, Montagna looks a good POD choice for the under 4,000 teams with him so far.

Nathan FYFE (FRE) MID 533.4k 110
Fyfe is still there or thereabouts, now averaging 110 for the year and priced at just over 530 grand. An exciting player with great skills, his injury concerns are an issue but he has looked solid to date this season. With just over 50,000 selections he isn't a great POD, but if he can keep scoring 110+ he should be well worth it.

Joel Selwood (GEE) MID 513.1k 110
Ducky has gone back up to over 500 grand this week, but still offers some good value. Priced around 40 grand unders going by his current average Selwood has had some quiet games this season but with Stevie J now on the sidelines for a while he may need to step up his game a bit. Currently sitting on 65,000 selections Ducky isn't as popular as a lot of coaches would have thought.

Matthew Boyd (WBD) MID 546.4k 102
Boyd just sneaks in under the mid-pricer banner this week, priced at around 545 grand and averaging a less than stellar, for Boyd anyway, 102 for the season. Not that appealing really, but when you factor in his last 3 games at an average of 130 he starts to look a bit better as a semi-POD option. When you consider the fact that he is also in less than 5,000 teams currently, he starts looking a real smoky for M7-8.

    PREMIUMS
Gary Ablett (GCS) MID 690k 138
Once again I'm assuming we can skip the formalities, as Gaz is still Gaz, and the week off probably hasn't changed that. Priced pretty well for his average of near 140 for the year a lot of the coaches without him were planning on bringing him in this week, but a host of injuries like Birchall and Stevie J may well put a stop to that.

Scott Pendlebury (COL) MID 619.1k 128
Pendles is still the leading scorer for the Pies, by a fair margin of 10ppg, and should remain a consistent performer for the rest of the season. A very popular pick and for good reason, not many coaches will finish the year without him in the side.

Dane Swan (COL) MID 578.3k 118
Swannie may be 10ppg behind Pendles overall, but in recent weeks he has managed a massive 142 average for his last 3 games. Priced about right for his overall average Swan has been spending more time in the midfield once again lately which has seen his scores benefit, and his 100,000+ coaches are hoping for more of the same.

Ryan Griffen (WBD) MID 663.2k 126
The Griff man has been in superb form, averaging 149 over his last 3 matches to reward those coaches that brought him in after the Doggies bye. Now in nearly 17,000 teams he is gaining popularity, but as his price has essentially peaked he doesn't offer quite as good value, unless of course he can maintain his current outstanding form.

Michael BARLOW (FRE) MID 604.1k 116
Barlow is another player to be ripping it up in recent games, averaging 135 from his last 3, but then breaking his face. On numbers he looks a good pick, with Freo pushing for top 4, a yearly average of 0ver 115 and in great form currently, however the extent of his newest injury will be unknown most likely until the match actually starts. A risky pick this week, so it may be worth waiting another week to join the near 30,000 teams with him so far.

Kieren Jack (SYD) MID 572.6k 114
Jack has continued on with his great recent form, pushing his average for the season to 114 and importantly his 3 game average to 123. Priced a bit higher then JPK still, but in around 65,000 less teams, Jack is looking the goods at the moment and seems a great POD option. On a side note, is anyone else amazed that Hannebery is second favourite for the Charlie?

Brett Deledio (RIC) MID 564.6k 111
Lids extended his slim lead over Cotch in their last match, now sitting on a 111 average for the year but a 121 average from his last 3 matches. Priced pretty much on the money he doesn't offer excellent value, but still has great scoring potential and is looking the better pick over Cotch after a slowish start to the season. 45,000 coaches have brought Lids in so far, with a fair few more waiting in the wings.

    RUCK
    MID-PRICERS

Zachary Clarke (FRE) RUC 458.7k 101
Zac Clarke has been flourishing in Sandi's absence, particularly recently, and has increased his average for the season to a healthy 101. Priced quite low for that average, at just under 460 grand, he offers good value and should remain in the side when (if) Sandi returns sometime soon. Not quite the numbers a few were hoping for, but Clarke certainly hasn't let down the 7,000 coaches who have him.

Matthew Leuenberger (BRI) RUC 459.2k 97
Leuey is going pretty well so far, averaging 97 since his return and making a fair few coaches some nice moneys while he was at it. This form has also led to him looking like a possible keeper for those that way inclined, and with his price still on the low side also a decent option for your R2. Hasn't been pumping out the scores like Wilbur and Goldy, but as a cheap alternative he is looking fairly good for his 55,000 or so coaches.

Ivan Maric (RIC) RUC 461.9k 96
Maric has struggled this year, but appears to be slowly returning to his 2012 form. Facing another price rise this week, around 15 grand this time, he will be a key part of the Tigers finals aspirations and importantly one that can still step up considerably. With an average in the mid 90's he is priced appropriately, and interestingly still has almost 40,000 selections to his name, showing that a decent chunk of SCers out there are banking on him coming good.

Matthew Kreuzer (CAR) RUC 456.2k 88
Kreuz has been a similar story to normal this year, playing well from time to time but struggling to get some regular consistency happening. Priced at under 460 grand he is a similar prospect to Maric really, Kreuz's 107 average over his last 3 matches probably make up for Maric's higher season average. The Blues will be desperate to make the finals this year, but realistically it isn't looking that likely. Just over 25,000 coaches have backed him in, but scepticism is probably the safest approach here.

    PREMIUMS

Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 558.8k 113
Goldy is still smashing out good scores, averaging 113 for the year, and still looking like a great choice as R1. With around 37,000 selections so far he isn't one the most popular rucks around, but really isn't much of a POD either. Priced pretty much spot on, Goldy's appeal should be his consistent performances.

    Dean Cox (WCE) R/F 537k 112
The Big Cox smashed it last week, putting on a great display mainly up forward to give his average a little boost up to 112 for the year. Sharing the duties with NicNat Cox's role was always going to be a little uncertain this year, but he has proven so far that he can still score well enough even as more of a forward then ruckman. Everyone pretty much already has him however, so I'll leave it there.

    FORWARD
    ROOKIES

    Joe Daniher (ESS) FWD 154.5k 77 +60k
JoeD started a little slowly in his first match at the highest level, before putting in a massive first half in his second game and showing why he was such a highly rated youngster. Averaging 77 over those two games he has great hands, especially for a bloke with his frame, and should only improve as he gets stronger. The rookies have been good to us over the bye rounds, with 3 great options in 3 weeks coming through, and many coaches will be expected to bring in Daniher this week.

    MID-PRICERS

Nick Riewoldt (StK) FWD 495.5k 108
NRoo has dropped off a bit recently, but not so much that I'm unsurprised(?) by his rapid price drop to back under 500 grand. Averaging 108 for the year he is priced well below that currently, and if he can return to his earlier form should be a bargain. Around 25,000 teams currently have Riewoldt up forward, but that number is expected to increase rapidly over the next 2 weeks.

    Dustin MARTIN (RIC) M/F 498.2k 105
Dusty is another foreard option with massive potential to be under 500 grand this week, averaging 105 for the year he has been solid but still struggles to play out full games. As a M/F he might get precedence over St Nick for a fair few, and the Tigers starting to believe finals are on the cards will likely have a few more coaches join the 100,000+ with him in their side.

Lance Franklin (HAW) FWD 475.6k 93
Buddy is still building to his previous form levels, and while it has been a slow process those that grabbed him at his cheap point are still certainly going to be pleased with it. With contract speculation still surrounding him the rest of the season will probably still be tough for Franklin but hopefully he is starting to adapt to it, hopefully for his 160,000 coaches anyway.

    PREMIUMS

    Jarryd Roughead (HAW) R/F 532.3k 101
Roughy had a bit of a quiet start to the season, with more than a few SCers taking the punt on him pre-season with his new DPP. While he hasn't quite lived up to their expectations, his 101 average for the year has still been serviceable at the least. Roughy has made his way into around 60,000 teams now, and those that brought him in last round for his 145 are surely taking that as a pretty good sign.

    Andrew Walker (CAR) M/F 547.1 111
Walks is still one of the leading forwards, and even though he has struggled with his consistency from time to time his 127 average over his last 3 games show that as not being an issue right at the moment. Problem is, that can change pretty quickly. Even with those issues he is still a great player, and looking a better SC pick all the time. Now in over 60,000 teams Walker has been a very popular trade target, and if he can keep the big scores coming it's easy to see why.

    WAITING LIST
    Will Minson (WBD) RUC 547.5k 112 -17k
    Trent Cotchin (RIC) MID 504.1k 108 -2k
    Nic Naitanui (WCE) R/F 588.3k 108 -10k
    Pearce Hanley (BRI) DEF 435.1k 98 -13k

That's it for the Best Buys this week, as always feel free to drop a comment or question in below, or follow me on twitter @BlueBelieverTS for notifications on when Best Buys are out each week.

    Addendum:
Well, not quite it. With both Essendon and West Coast deciding to mess with my Best Buys, and not playing the only rookies on the bubble likely to get a game, I've had a look around for a few more options for those of you desperate for a downgrade. None of these guys are on the bubble, having all played one match or more than 3, and I've only gone down to players averaging 30+.

    *Only game score

    DEFENSE

Mitchell Clisby (MEL) DEF 96.2k 71*

Clisby played a good game in his only one in the AFL, scoring 71 is generally pretty decent this season for any of the players at Melbourne let alone first gamers, and walesy said he heard Clisby is a good chance to keep getting games. Good enough for me, and he's named at half-back against the Doggies this weekend.

Sam Docherty (BRI) DEF 177.7k 47

Docherty has played 6 games now, but has been a little disappointing when compared to some of his pre-season hype averaging only 47 so far. Named on the I/C and therefore a bit of a sub risk his poorish scores have seen his price not yet break 180 grand, but at least he seems to have better job security then some others.

Aidan Corr (GWS) DEF 196.7k 41
<div>Corr is a first round draft pick from last year, and is averaging 41 having played 7 games so far. Apparently decent job security but not great scoring potential he is named at half-back this week and just scrapes in under 200 grand. Not the worst option but pricier than most.

Jimmy Webster (StK) DEF 159k 38

Webster has so far been a step down from Docherty, having played the same amount of games but averaging 9 ppg less. Some Saints fans rate him, while personally I haven't seen that much of him to be honest, but again his game tally shows some form of job security at least. Named at full-back.

Taylor HINE (NM) DEF 178.8k 38

Hine is another one similar to the previous 3, having played 7 games so far but only averaging 38 over them. Priced at just under 180 grand he appears to have a spot in the 22 for now, and is named at half-back this week.

    MIDFIELD

Lachlan Hunter (WBD) MID 109.5k 86*

Hunter is named at half-forward for his second match in the big league, lining up on Clisby. A good first up showing saw him score a nice 86, and the Dees this week should offer him a good chance to back it up. Bit risky with his job security, but the Dogs need quality forwards and if he can match his first game consistently he should earn a spot.

Nathan Hrovat (WBD) MID 161.9k 59

Hrovat has broken his bubble, but as his price has only risen to just over 160 grand he could still be worth a look. Feel free to correct me here but I think he was subbed off scoring only 30 odd in his last match, he is named on the interchange this week but alongside Gia so will likely avoid the green vest at least. A good young player and playing the Dees this week.

Dean Kent (MEL) MID 180.9k 41

Kent has played 5 games now, and while he has looked reasonably good for Melbourne that hasn't meant good SC scores. Averaging 41 his price has only risen to 180 grand, but he will probably keep playing for Melbourne this season and may not improve drastically. Named on the interchange.

Jimmy Toumpas (MEL) MID 154.5k 30

Toumpas also plays for Melbourne, but does have a bit more potential to drastically alter his average. A gun in the U18's his 6 games at AFL level have failed to impress managing only a 30 average. He is at least named in the midfield this week, but there are probably better options here.

    RUCK

Dawson Simpson (GEE) RUC 198k 63*

Simpson isn't really a fresh rookie but is playing his second game for the year for the Cats and named in the ruck. He scored a reasonable 63 in his first game, and Freo will be an interesting test this week. Might be a decent choice at R4, but I wouldn't really want him on field.

Daniel GORRINGE (GCS) RUC 173.1k 49
<div>Gorringe is named at full forward in his 4th game this year, averaging 49 and playing alongside Nicholls in the ruck. A decent option, especially with Smith out, his performance will probably determine his spot when/if Dixon gets fit.

    FORWARD

Tim Sumner (GCS) FWD 144.1k 49 FF

Sumner is lining up alongside Gorringe at full forward this week, and is averaging the same from the same amount of games so really the choice between them is only down to price or position. 30 grand cheaper but with possibly less job security Sumner has the highest average of the forward rookies here and could be worth a punt.

Matthew Taberner (FRE) FWD 114.2k 39*

Taberner scored 39 in his first up game, but was also subbed (I think) making it not quite as bad a score as it first appears. Named at full forward this week but playing a tough assignment in the Cats at home, he is one of very few forward options with Daniher now not playing. Not the best numbers or job security but worth a look for those hard up for options.

Brodie Murdoch (StK) FWD 121.6k 31

Murdoch has just broken his bubble, and is now lining up for his 4th game of the year averaging 31. Named on the I/C bench he is a possible sub, and player there really hasn't been much talk about. Similar to Taberner but with possibly better job security it may still be worth waiting for Daniher if possible.

Now that's it for the Best Buys for this week, really. I mean it this time.
