Recent chatter seems to suggest that Swan is emerging as the new perma-captain for 2011 after he followed up his 166 against Port Adelaide in Round 1 with a 152 against North Melbourne in Round 2. Collingwood plays Carlton this week followed by Richmond and Essendon so he should continue to get plenty of the ball. Pendlebury has also had a good couple of weeks and with his 162 last round, will also be a popular choice.

Everyone is talking about the Gold Coast Suns. Last week I wrote that it was expected they would be beaten pretty soundly by Carlton which is exactly what happened. From a Supercoach point of view, it means that teams playing the Suns are a potential gold mine. Last week, only two Suns broke the ton. By comparison, twelve Blues broke the ton.

Winning teams pick up most of the SuperCoach points allocated in a game. Last week, the grand total of Suns’ SuperCoach points was 1282. By comparison the grand total of Blues’ SuperCoach points was 2022. This week, Gold Coast play the Bulldogs – this makes Boyd and Cross nice options.

My opinion: I made an extended list of players this week because no-one really stood out. None of the players averaged more than 120 against their opponent except for Pendlebury with 122. Given that there are no standouts, I will be locking Swan in again. His most recent score of 152 was despite the Carazzo tag. I don’t see Swan slowing down. I also like Goddard’s recent history against Essendon.

Swan, Pendlebury, Goddard in that order for me.
