Round 13 recap: Well the captain’s choice proved difficult last week with only three players scoring over 130 for the round – Leigh Adams and Pearce Hanley both top scoring with 151 with Rockliff close behind with 147.
This week the byes have finished and we have a full board of players to pick from. Luckily I have had a bit of time on my hands this week so I bring you a bumper edition of choices. Again, however, the numbers point to one man …

Rd 13 2005: 146 SC points, 27 disposals
Average is 109 SC points with 24 disposals.
Note: Solid record against Richmond with some huge scores in 2008 and 2009. Has been tagged by either Tuck or Jackson in every game since 2008. Scored a poor 102 last week which had followed a score of 126. Prior to his bye he only managed poor scores of 58 and 93.

Rd 9 2010: 109 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 6 2009: 126 SC points, 34 disposals
Rd 22 2008: 117 SC points, 31 disposals
Rd 9 2007: 109 SC points, 26 disposals
Average is 106 SC points with 27 disposals.
Note: Not the best record against Hawthorn. No scores over 126. Limited to only 15 touches in the game last year as he was tagged out of the game by Lewis who was best on ground with 30 disposals. In the three games prior to that, Judd had been tagged by Sewell. Is apparently playing injured at the moment which would explain his poor recent run of scores: 47, 105, 79 and 80 (average of 78).
Mitchell v. Carlton
Rd 22 2011: 91 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 85 SC points, 23 disposals

Note: Poor record against Carlton. Has recently been tagged by Carrazznly one big score back in 2009 where he played the first half of the game sweeping across half back. Coming off solid, but not spectacular, scores of 124, 116 and 133 (average of 124).
Beams v. Fremantle
Rd 23 2011: 121 SC points, 31 disposals
Rd 8 2010: 96 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 13 2009: 94 SC points, 22 disposals
Average is 103 SC points with 26 disposals.
Note: Solid record against Fremantle with a high score of 121 last year when he played in the midfield against Stephen Hill. Is in career best form with recent scores of 128, 137, 121 and 175 (average of 140).
Franklin v. Carlton
Rd 22 2011: 103 SC points, 12 disposals, 4 goals 1 behind

Rd 6 2009: 70 SC points, 14 disposals, 2 goals 1 behind
Rd 22 2008: 86 SC points, 14 disposals, 4 goals 5 behinds
Average is 98 SC points with 15 disposals and just under 4 goals.
Note: Average record against Carlton with a high score of only 133. Marked by Henderson in the game last year and was manned by a combination of Thornton and Jamieson when he kicked 5 goals in 2010. Had a bye last week which had followed scores of 118, 113 and 236.
Selwood v. Port Adelaide
Rd 3 2011: 134 SC points, 34 disposals

Rd 9 2007: 65 SC points, 18 disposals
Average is 95 SC points with 23 disposals.
Note: Terrible record against Port Adelaide. Average inflated by his only scores over 100 being big scores. Otherwise, he has five scores under 100. Scored 134 most recently playing head to head against Boak. Has also been tagged by Kane Cornes in other games. Had a disappointing 101 last week which had followed scores of 154 104, 110 and 140 (average of 122).
Deledio v. Adelaide
Rd 23 2011: 101 SC points, 24 disposals

Rd 8 2006: 91 SC points, 20 disposals
Average is 94 SC points with 26 disposals.
Note: Poor record against Adelaide with only three scores over 100 and five scores under 100. Manned by Petrenko in the game last year. He managed his highest score against Adelaide in Rd 18 2010 where he was allowed to play loose in defence. Had a bye last week which had followed scores of 132, 67, 114, 117 and 157 (average of 117).
Watson v. Western Bulldogs
Rd 21 2011: 103 SC points, 23 disposals
Rd 1 2011: 142 SC points, 35 disposals
Rd 10 2010: 99 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 16 2009: 40 SC points, 11 disposals
Rd 21 2008: 49 SC points, 14 disposals
Rd 4 2008: 83 SC points, 20 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 113 SC points, 27 disposals
Average is 90 SC points with 22 disposals.
Note: Poor record against the Western Bulldogs. Tagged by Cross in the Rd 21 2011 game and played head to head against Boyd in Rd 1 2011 (Picken went to Monfries). Poor games in 2009 and 2008 which were all injury affected games (Rd 16 2009 limited to only one handball in the first quarter playing on Cross and was then injured in the third quarter; Rd 21 2008 he injured his thumb and ankle in the first quarter and then left the game for good in the fourth quarter; Rd 4 2008 he received a cut under the eye from someone’s boot but played the game out). In great recent form with scores of 120, 149 and 140 (average of 136).
Boyd v. Essendon
Rd 21 2011: 105 SC points, 36 disposals
Rd 1 2011: 74 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 22 2010: 88 SC points, 33 disposals
Rd 10 2010: 62 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 16 2009: 87 SC points, 29 disposals
Rd 21 2008: 82 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 4 2008: 98 SC points, 21 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 75 SC points, 24 disposals
Average is 84 SC points with 27 disposals.
Note: Terrible record against Essendon with only one score (barely) over 100 which was 105 in Rd 21 last year when he was tagged by Hocking. Had played head to head against Watson in Rd 1 2011 and had played head to head against Stanton in Rd 22 2010. Coming off a shocking score of 63 last week which had followed scores of 111, 100, 125, 137 and 137 (average of 122).
My opinion: The numbers clearly, again, point to Ablett. Following Ablett, there is a bit of daylight to Swan and the rest of the pack. I also like Rockliff’s chances against Melbourne playing at the ‘Gabba.
As always, I note that West Coast are at home playing Gold Coast. Top scorers in their matchup last year in Rd 11 were Cox with 166, LeCras with 144 and Hurn with 140. Priddis only managed 117 whilst Naitanui only managed 78.
Also, Sydney take on the Giants after having already beaten them in Rd 1 this year (100 to 37). Top scoring in that game was JP Kennedy with 137, Kieran Jack with 133 and Jude Bolton with 127.
For those not picking Ablett, there seem to be a large number of good choices this round. A top player from West Coast or Sydney is a very safe choice.
Based on the numbers, I would clearly pick Ablett. Following Ablett, I like both Swan and Rockliff who returned to form last week. My picks from either West Coast or the Swans would be Priddis and JP Kennedy who should find a lot of the ball without being bothered too much by any taggers.
To summarise: Ablett, Swan, Rockliff, JP Kennedy then Priddis.
I hope everyone ignored my smoky pick last week which was Goodes … I will try again and nominate a smoky of Naitanui who should enjoy playing at home against the Suns.
Good luck to all!!
