Round 19 recap: Five scores over 150 led by Harley Bennell with a huge 193 in a losing team. He was followed by Pavlich with 179, Giles with 177, Jolly with 168 and Ablett with 165.

Well this week Ablett and the Gold Coast Suns are playing Greater Western Sydney. Gold Coast have had one game against the Giants which they lost by 27 points. Top scorer in that game was Giles with 134. In that game, Ablett scored 125.

Let’s look at the numbers for the week …
    <!--more-->

    Ablett v. Greater Western Sydney

    Rd 7 2012: 125 SC points, 33 disposals

Note: Only one match up against the Giants earlier this year which was a 27 point loss. Was tagged by Dylan Shiel in that game. Ablett is in amazing form with recent scores of 165, 171, 150 and 133 (average of 155).

    Dal Santo v. Melbourne

    Rd 5 2012: 110 SC points, 30 disposals
    Rd 9 2011: 78 SC points, 20 disposals
    Rd 14 2010: 123 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 22 2009: 129 SC points, 39 disposals
    Rd 10 2009: 120 SC points, 31 disposals
    Rd 10 2008: 129 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 1 2007: 106 SC points, 19 disposals
    EF 2006: 71 SC points, 15 disposals
    Rd 10 2006: 164 SC points, 29 disposals

Average is 114 SC points with 26 disposals.

Note: Good average but only one huge score back in 2006. Hasn’t scored over 130 since that game. Average form at the moment with recent scores of 112, 137, 73 and 66 (average of 97).

    Watson v. North Melbourne

    Rd 1 2012: 107 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 13 2011: 94 SC points, 29 disposals
    Rd 17 2010: 139 SC points, 38 disposals
    Rd 4 2009: 91 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 1 2008: 148 SC points, 30 disposals
    Rd 7 2007: 112 SC points, 32 disposals
    Rd 13 2006: 92 SC points, 24 disposals

Average is 112 SC points with 29 disposals.

Note: Not the best recent record against North but he has two big scores against them in 2010 and 2008. In solid form with scores of 143, 120, 101 and 123 (average of 122).

    Murphy v. Brisbane

    Rd 2 2012: 147 SC points, 30 disposals
    Rd 12 2011: 122 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 14 2010: 106 SC points, 26 disposals
    Rd 11 2009: 111 SC points, 25 disposals
    Rd 2 2009: 104 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 21 2008: 124 SC points, 27 disposals
    Rd 8 2008: 133 SC points, 32 disposals
    Rd 16 2007: 21 SC points, 11 disposals
    Rd 5 2007: 92 SC points, 17 disposals

Average is 107 SC points with 24 disposals.

Notes: Solid record from 2008 onwards. Only scored 21 SC points in Rd 16 2007 when Carlton was smashed by the Lions 163 to 46. Take out both 2007 games and Murphy’s average jumps to 121 SC points with 27 disposals. Since returning from injury he scored 112, then 108, then 160 and then 109 last week.

    Selwood v. West Coast

    PF 2011: 127 SC points, 25 disposals
    Rd 11 2010: 123 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 11 2009: 106 SC points, 26 disposals
    Rd 22 2008: 128 SC points, 29 disposals
    Rd 13 2008: 84 SC points, 23 disposals
    Rd 7 2008: 49 SC points, 12 disposals

Average is 103 SC points with 23 disposals.

Notes: Not a good average against West Coast with no scores over 130. Solid scores in his most recent games against them with 127 (tagged by his brother Scott) and 123. Coming off a good 132 last week which had followed scores of 126, 83, 107, 116 and 149 (average 119).

    Pendlebury v. Sydney

    Rd 14 2011: 114 SC points, 25 disposals
    Rd 13 2010: 97 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 21 2009: 77 SC points, 13 disposals
    Rd 21 2008: 147 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 14 2008: 75 SC points, 20 disposals
    EF 2007: 114 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 21 2007: 82 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 12 2007: 109 SC points, 17 disposals

Average is 102 SC points with 21 disposals.

Note: Does not have a fantastic record against Sydney with a high score of 147 in 2008. No other scores above 120. Since his return from injury, he has scored 132, 127, 136 and 126 (average 130).

    Cox v. Geelong

    PF 2011: 54 SC points, 12 disposals, 12 hitouts
    Rd 16 2011: 101 SC points, 13 disposals, 29 hitouts
    Rd 22 2010: 75 SC points, 13 disposals, 12 hitouts
    Rd 11 2010: 103 SC points, 14 disposals, 29 hitouts
    Rd 11 2009: 147 SC points, 30 disposals, 32 hitouts
    Rd 22 2008: 113 SC points, 21 disposals, 15 hitouts
    Rd 13 2008: 118 SC points, 25 disposals, 19 hitouts

Average is 102 SC points with 18 disposals and 21 hitouts.

Note: Not the best record against Geelong with only one huge score back in 2009. A poor 76 last week which had followed scores of 121, 76 and 74.

    Thompson v. Fremantle

    Rd 10 2012: 58 SC points, 18 disposals
    Rd 3 2011: 152 SC points, 40 disposals
    Rd 11 2010: 140 SC points, 34 disposals
    Rd 1 2010: 56 SC points, 23 disposals
    Rd 15 2009: 93 SC points, 27 disposals
    Rd 3 2009: 98 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 5 2008: 105 SC points, 20 disposals
    Rd 16 2007: 75 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 5 2007: 119 SC points, 29 disposals

Average is 100 SC points with 26 disposals.

Note: Terrible game against Fremantle in Rd 10 when he was tagged out of the game by Crowley. Scored big in Rd 3 2011 when he avoided the tags (De Boer went to Dangerfield and Crowley went to Johncock). Managed a huge score in Rd 11 2010 when he was tagged by Crowley. Has had a poor four weeks with scores of 78, 106, 92 and 118 (average of 99).

    Pavlich v. Adelaide

    Rd 10 2012: 93 SC points, 14 disposals
    Rd 3 2011: 100 SC points, 25 disposals
    Rd 11 2010: 97 SC points, 9 disposals
    Rd 1 2010: 111 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 3 2009: 96 SC points, 15 disposals
    Rd 5 2008: 28 SC points, 11 disposals
    Rd 16 2007: 156 SC points, 16 disposals
    Rd 5 2007: 67 SC points, 13 disposals

Average is 94 SC points with 16 disposals.

Note: Poor average against Adelaide with only one big score back in Rd 16 2007. Had a shocking game in Rd 5 2008 when he was well held by Rutten and only managed 28 SC points. In fantastic form recently with scores of 179, 108, 160, 113 and 175 (average of 147).

My opinion: Again, recent form clearly points to Ablett. The fact that he is playing against Greater Western Sydney is confirmation. No doubt the Suns will be seeking revenge after losing to the Giants earlier this season.

Following Ablett, again, the choice is difficult. There don’t seem to be any standouts but I can’t go past Watson who is playing against North or Pendlebury playing against Sydney. Dal Santo playing against Melbourne seems a good option too.

My smoky pick this week, again is Cyril Rioli, who has recent scores against Port Adelaide of 125 (Rd 11 2012 at AAMI) and 175 (Rd 21 2011 at the MCG). He is coming off scores of 124, 134, 127, 105 and 159 (average of 130) and should enjoy playing against the struggling Port team down in Tasmania.

    Good luck to all!!
