Round 21 recap: Some familiar names at the top of the leaderboard with some relatively obscure names too. Ablett led the way with an impressive 189 from 43 disposals in a 10 goal losing effort. He was followed by Murphy with 187, Griffen with 170, Beams with 166 , Jeremy Howe with 165, Toby Greene with 165, Kade Simpson with 156 and Steven May and David Hale both with 151.

Currently Ablett is in 52.25% of all Supercoach teams. So, for the remaining 47.75% of you, let’s look at the numbers for the week …

    <!--more-->
    Swan v. West Coast

    Rd 13 2012: 117 SC points, 38 disposals
    QF 2011: 130 SC points, 43 disposals
    Rd 10 2011: 86 SC points, 26 disposals
    Rd 14 2010: 163 SC points, 38 disposals
    Rd 9 2009: 149 SC points, 36 disposals
    Rd 10 2008: 146 SC points, 36 disposals
    SF 2007: 118 SC points, 38 disposals
    Rd 2 2007: 97 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 16 2006: 109 SC points, 20 disposals
    Rd 7 2006: 94 SC points, 25 disposals

Average is 121 SC points with 32 disposals.

Note: Fantastic record against the Eagles but has scored under 100 in three of the ten games. Will be looking for redemption after a club imposed suspension of two games. Prior to the suspension, he had scores of 97, 141 and 143 (average of 127).

    Pendlebury v. West Coast

    QF 2011: 140 SC points, 38 disposals
    Rd 10 2011: 138 SC points, 31 disposals
    Rd 14 2010: 139 SC points, 27 disposals
    Rd 9 2009: 108 SC points, 38 disposals
    Rd 10 2008: 130 SC points, 23 disposals
    SF 2007: 99 SC points, 26 disposals
    Rd 2 2007: 76 SC points, 21 disposals

Average is 119 SC points with 29 disposals.

Note: Great average against the Eagles averaging 131 in his last five games against them. Most recently was tagged by Scott Selwood but still managed 38 disposals. Had a poor 86 last week against North Melbourne which had followed scores of 132, 127, 136 and 126 (average 118 over his past five).

    Ablett v. Carlton

    Rd 2 2011: 91 SC points, 23 disposals
    Rd 21 2010: 107 SC points, 21 disposals
    Rd 5 2010: 171 SC points, 33 disposals
    Rd 19 2009: 81 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 10 2008: 157 SC points, 32 disposals
    Rd 2 2007: 122 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 14 2006: 96 SC points, 17 disposals

Average is 118 SC points with 25 disposals.

Note: Below average record against Carlton with two big scores boosting his average. Three scores below 100 from seven games. Most recently tagged by Carrazzo when the Suns were smashed by 119 points. Is in unbelievable form at the moment coming off a 189 in a losing effort last week against Hawthorn. Scores prior to that game were 126, 165, 171 and 150 (average of 160 in his past five games).

    Cox v. Collingwood

    Rd 13 2012: 119 SC points, 15 disposals, 29 hitouts
    QF 2011: 63 SC points, 12 disposals, 12 hitouts
    Rd 10 2011: 93 SC points, 20 disposals, 33 hitouts
    Rd 14 2010: 69 SC points, 13 disposals, 17 hitouts
    Rd 9 2009: 97 SC points, 12 disposals, 30 hitouts
    Rd 10 2008: 155 SC points, 30 disposals, 36 hitouts
    SF 2007: 173 SC points, 27 disposals, 29 hitouts
    Rd 7 2006: 87 SC points, 22 disposals, 22 hitouts
    Rd 9: 2005: 130 SC points, 23 disposals, 30 hitouts

Average is 110 SC points with 19 disposals and 26 hitouts

Note: An up and down record against Collingwood. Has only scored over 100 in four games out of nine but some big scores back in 2007 and 2008. A disappointing 104 last week which had followed scores of 190, 76, 121, 76, 74 and 215 (average of 122).

    Franklin v. Sydney

    Rd 5 2012: 72 SC points, 14 disposals
    SF 2011: 95 SC points, 17 disposals
    Rd 9 2011: 146 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 19 2010: 101 SC points, 21 disposals
    Rd 10 2010: 81 SC points, 15 disposals
    Rd 11 2009: 99 SC points, 17 disposals
    Rd 2 2009: 72 SC points, 11 disposals
    Rd 15 2008: 113 SC points, 21 disposals
    Rd 22 2007: 81 SC points, 11 disposals
    Rd 11 2007: 157 SC points, 17 disposals

Average is 102 SC points with 17 disposals.

Note: Two big scores but they are surrounded by six scores under 100. Risky proposition as captain this week given that he has missed the past six games.

    Watson v. Richmond

    Rd 8 2012: 105 SC points, 30 disposals
    Rd 9 2010: 124 SC points, 28 disposals
    Rd 17 2009: 66 SC points, 22 disposals
    Rd 9 2009: 130 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 16 2008: 103 SC points, 25 disposals
    Rd 9 2008: 80 SC points, 20 disposals
    Rd 9 2007: 94 SC points, 21 disposals

Average is 100 SC points with 24 disposals.

Note: Four scores over 100 and three scores under. No huge scores. Poor 66 in 2009 when he was tagged by Jackson. Only managed 87 last week in a terrible loss against Carlton. This has followed a great run of form with scores of 154, 143, 120, 101 and 123 (average of 128).

    Thompson v. Melbourne

    Rd 7 2011: 65 SC points, 13 disposals
    Rd 13 2010: 73 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 3 2010: 76 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 5 2009: 133 SC points, 29 disposals
    Rd 8 2008: 80 SC points, 20 disposals
    Rd 10 2007: 50 SC points, 12 disposals
    Rd 22 2006: 111 SC points, 24 disposals
    Rd 3 2006: 90 SC points, 18 disposals
    Rd 19 2005: 77 SC points, 14 disposals
    Rd 7 2005: 83 SC points, 25 disposals

Average is 84 SC points with 20 disposals.

Note: Surprisingly terrible record against Melbourne. Is in a form slump with only one score over 100 in his past five games this season: 99, 94, 78, 106 and 92 (average of 94).

My opinion: Recent form undoubtedly points to Ablett who plays Carlton this round. The numbers clearly point to Ablett. His 189 last week brings his five round average up to an incredible 160.

Other options include Carlton players who are playing Gold Coast. Murphy is back to his best with a 187 last round (his average in his six games after returning from injury is 132). Judd will be better after returning to the side last week after his four week suspension. He managed 95 in his return but prior to his suspension he had scored 159, 126 and 126 (average of 137).

St Kilda play Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium. Interestingly, no Saints players have really stood out this season. Hayes is leading the way with an average of 106 for the season. He is followed by McEvoy with 105 and both Dal Santo and Goddard with 101. Hayes’ last three games have yielded 94, 85 and 110. Dal Santo has returned 75, 92 and 112. Goddard has returned 116, 77 and 122. The best of the bunch is probably McEvoy with 126, 101 and 126.

I think recent form dictates that it is impossible to ignore Ablett. For those without Ablett, I would pick a Carlton player against Gold Coast. It is hard to go past Murphy’s recent form.

Following Murphy, I would pick either Swan or Pendlebury. Despite playing the Eagles in Perth, Collingwood players will be looking to redeem themselves following their poor showing against North Melbourne last week. I would place Pendlebury marginally ahead of Swan. Following these two, I would pick Watson who should bounce back against Richmond.

My smoky pick this week is Adam Goodes. Had a nice game of 131 last week and will enjoy playing back at the small SCG. Has averaged 121 in his ten games against Hawthorn with huge scores of 166 and 183 (both in 2009).

    Good luck to all!!
