With Chappy coming out a last month saying he was “carried” to a premiership last year, but still able to average 101 and now looking like he has been able to overcome last year’s issues, is anyone entertaining the thought of starting the year with him? Surely with the retirements of both Ling and Ottens, this will translate into more points for Chapman, or is he just too old and injury prone now?
IMO, yes he's old and yes he's injuryprone, but I'm still starting him. Bit of a risk I know, but Geelong has a pretty good draw I reckon.
Ditto. You need to have some POD or all the teams just look the same, and a few of the old-timers - Chappy, Pav, Sandi and Scotland - are being ignored by most playing it safe. If he was injured last year and managed 20 games at 101, then he can at least maintain that this year and be a top 10 forward again.
Other veterans who could be good PODs include B Harvey and Enright. Nobody wants them this year despite their consistency.
I've slotted him into my forward line and am happy to see he's a bit of a POD, which is rare for him! Hopefully goes bang from the start.
Enright's a great call Swert. Forgotten man as we all jump on Shaw and Broughton, but sheer scores and time on field he's been a beauty for years.
Goodes or chappy? I have goodes atm, though am not 100% sold on him. He is such a gun, though chappy is consistent and, as u guys have mentioned, will be an important part of the cats side this year
I am starting him too.. all aboard the Chappy train! (Also really thinking about Harvey... GWS and Suns twice!)
Thanks for the feedback people @Corks I tend to agree, If he can improve on last year then it currently looks like he could turn out to be a great POD in 2012 . @Nick would you consider starting him in the middle so you could use him to swap with the forwards if needed?
@ Schmidt - no way. I'm not an advocate of starting MID/FWD premiums in the MID line ever. Takes the spot of a higher scoring pure MID. Put Kerridge or Kennedy in your mid rookies and Chapman in your forward line if you want to activate that DPP link. I was hoping there would be no Chappy train to get on board!!
I reckon Chappy is guaranteed to be rested at least 1-2 games this year, and even with cover that would drop his expected average by at least 5 points. No doubt in average he will finish top 10 forwards for the year though.
With his dodgy hamstrings and solid body type theres no chance ill be picking him ... hes missed quite a few games in the last couple of years through injury and the chances of him running through the middle more this year only raise his chances of injury imo ... The more solid the body type on shorter type players the more injury prone they tend to get as they get older, theres always exceptions but just my opinion. Goodes is def an exception although he is a different body type he moves like a lean nippy onballer whilst weighing 96kg at 194cm. Not many around move like Goodes at his stats. Chappy stands in at 88kg at 179cm completely different body types and injury history to take into account
@Turbs, how is your final sentence accurate when you take into account the fact that Adam Goodes is both a "solid body" and "older" yet has been one of the most durable players in the competition over the past few years?

Anthak - same could be said for Swan, Judd, Goodes, Pav, Enright and many others. Not to mention Franklin and Selwood will be suspended for 2 games this year costing them 5 ppg. It's all guesswork, but 105 ppg from Chappy for 20 games, will still put him top 10 forward this year. If you have 7 of 10 forwards, 7 of 10 backs, and 6 of 9 mids, along with 2 strong rucks, you win the car.
I don't have any of that list mate. Except Selwood and Buddy. Neither of them will be rested. Somebody may run into buddy's elbow, and selwood bound to risk being concussed by ducking into tackles, but those still could be considered close to unlikely. Whereas it's almost a given that Chappy will be rested at some stage. The added bonus is that he has a history of soft tissue injuries - which (in my limited knowledge) seem to be most likely to reoccur.
Everyone who picks Chappy lives in fear of the dreaded 'twang' of his hammies going, much like the fear that Heath Shaw owners have of the sound of his brain farting, but he still managed to play 20 games last season while carrying a few niggles. @Anthak - Buddy has been rested in the past by the Hawks. He missed the Round 24 game against the Suns last year. He played 19 games last year, but the fact of the matter is that of last years' Top 10 forwards, only the geriatrics, Goodes and Boomer, played the full 22 games. With the way modern footy is played, clubs are always going to be resting stars, especially the successful teams when leading up to the finals.
