The third and final part of the club-by-club review is here and again, there have been some interesting results in the below teams. Port Adelaide started the season off really well however, they have cooled off in recent times. Some of their players have accurately reflected this form. Each team has a couple of outstanding players that score well no matter what the situation however there are some interesting SuperStars and Disappointments that have come up from the below teams.
Port Adelaide (5 wins 3 losses)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Kane Cornes (avg 120)
Bolter: Chad Wingard (avg 97.50)
Disappointment: Hamish Hartlett (avg 90.25)
It is amazing that a player like Kane Cornes, has been able to start the season off this well. It is a testament to having a positive attitude and working hard. He is a real leader and provided good support for Travis Boak (avg 105.25), who has also been outstanding. Chad Wingard has taken off out of nowhere and I will be interested to see whether he can maintain his great start. Angus Monfries (avg 92.88) has performed well since moving from Essendon in the off-season. A special mention to Quadzilla&rdquo; Oliver Wines (avg 85) who made a lot of money for people and has been a great stepping stone to a premium or a great cash cow.
Hamish Hartlett and Justin Westhoff (avg 101.75). Both started off the season with their fair share of 140+ matches yet, in the last month, have absolutely fallen off the face of the earth. I started with Hartlett and my only worry was whether his legs would stay together for the year. I didn't account for everyone jumping on him and his being unable to shake a tag. Westhoff hasn't appreciated the extra attention either. Maybe he should ring Charlie Dixon, for some advice. Surely, with all the weird gatherings going on these days, they have a caveman&rdquo; gathering every so often. Have you seen their shags recently? Anyway, I digress. These two do have the ability to lift their work-rate. They better. They have millions of Australians relying on them.
An okay draw coming up for the Power and it is their stars who should pull them through. Their new fitness regime has them running out matches which could be a weapon as we approach the bye rounds. Watch Robbie Gray (avg 70.60) explode.
Richmond (5 wins 3 losses)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Trent Cotchin (avg 117.43)
Bolter: Dustin Martin (avg 112.12)
Disappointment: Shaun Grigg (avg 76.50)
Trent Cotchin is a star. Good, I thought I'd get that one out of the way first. He has scored poorly just once(when he was injured against Geelong) and has really provided good output for those that selected him. For those who traded him out when he was injured, I see where you are coming from. He will depreciate in value but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Brett Deledio (avg 112.25) has been tagged but has come through pretty well. Bachar Houli (avg 97.38) has surprised a few but his ball use and commitment up back means he is now a top 10 defender. The &lsquo;Bolter' category is one I'd assume will cause a bit of discussion. I put Dustin MARTIN there because of the way he has started this season. No one would have expected such an explosive start and high average. Many people would put Brandon Ellis (avg 71.88) as the Bolter and his last month has been exceptional, but Dusty has had good performances all year. Nick Vlastuin (avg 89.25) has also been great.
Shaun Grigg has been underperforming so far this year. After last season's success, he broken the 100 yet and had 6 scores below 80. Not good enough Shaun. Alex Rance (avg 77.50) has also taken a step backwards this season but the Tigers don't have a bad run. He could score a bit more this season. Robin Nahas (avg 35.25) has had to encounter the subs vest a couple of times but hasn't been great when given the opportunity.
The Tigers are starting to warm up with their SC scores. Ellis will continue his rich vein of form but will receive more attention. If you don't have him, get Trent Cotchin into your team. Don't miss out.
St Kilda (2 wins 6 losses)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Nick Riewoldt (avg 117.50)
Bolter: Dylan Roberton (avg 91.25)
Disappointment: Nick Dal Santo (avg 80.62)
The Saints were expected to drop off a bit this season and, while the win/loss ratio isn't great, it's been good to see Scott Watters give the younger players an increased role in the line-up. They generally provide a strong fight with some run lacking towards the end of matches. <a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=361&name=Nick Riewoldt">Nick Riewoldt[/url] has turned back the clock with a great start to the season. Ben McEvoy (avg 109.25) has excited Brian Taylor and seemingly the whole AFL community with his great work ethic. Leigh Montagna (avg 109.71) has been extremely consistent with similar outputs each and every week. Young guns Jack Steven (avg 99.38) and David Armitage (avg 93.38) have been really good and have seem to taken over from the like of Nick Dal Santo and Lenny Hayes (avg 96.60). The player that has impressed the most and is surely in All-Australian contention is former Docker Dylan ROBERTON. He has provided really good rebound off half-back and will be a huge part of the St Kilda future. Saints fans can thank Ross Lyon for Roberton's arrival.
The aforementioned Dal Santo has taken a step back to allow for the youngsters to have an increased impact in the midfield. The extra attention hasn't helped. Sam Fisher (avg 82) has played more of a shut-down role in recent times and is no longer one of the locks in defence. Jarryn Geary (avg 79.75) has been locking down on opposition guns in the past month which means that those who have him, must jump off. Arryn SIPOSS (avg 60) hasn't come on like most would have thought.
The Saints have a manageable draw coming up and those old guns with the new brigade should continue to score well. Matches against Western Bulldogs and Melbourne in the next few rounds should have Saints fans excited. Watch for James Gwilt (avg 93.33) to continue his good form and score well.
Sydney (5 wins 2 losses 1 draw)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Josh P. Kennedy (avg 122)
Bolter: Daniel Hannebery (avg 102.75)
Disappointment: Lewis Jetta (avg 58.50)
The reigning premiers have had some really good performers in SuperCoach this season. Josh P. Kennedy has continued his hot form from last year while new co-captain Kieren Jack (avg 112.50) has been very good as well. Jarrad McVeigh (avg 107.12) has become a devastating, goal-scoring midfielder and deserves the extra attention he has received in recent weeks. Daniel Hannebery has been the Bolter with an outstanding start to the season (apart from the grand final rematch). Not many chose him at the start of the year but people have begun to jump on in recent times. There's nothing more frustrating than picking a smoky and then everyone begins to pick him. Luke PARKER (avg 95.88) and Mike Pyke (avg 96.38) have also been very good in this early part of the year.
Lewis JETTA has been extremely poor this season. For someone that is so talented and skilful, he is yet to show his true class. Watching him run with Cyril Rioli and Patrick Dangerfield is like watching an Olympic sprinting final however these other players are really damaging with their overall game. Haven't seen enough from Jetta. Shane Mumford (avg 76.86) looked under-priced at the start of the year however he has played according to his price tag. Old-timers Jude Bolton (avg 77.88) and Adam Goodes (avg 79.12) seem to be past it but still show signs of why they are superstars of the AFL.
The Swans have a tough next 6 weeks but Round 15 and 16 (Melbourne and GWS) look to be matches where you may want to snap up cheap premiums. Don't expect to see many people rested. I'd recommend getting JPK into your team ASAP. He is a gun. Also, don't discount the impact of one Kurt Tippett. His comeback will coincide with an easier few weeks. His scores could surprise many. Don't cross him off your list just yet.
West Coast (4 wins 4 losses)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Dean Cox (avg 111.50)
Bolter: Chris Masten (avg 100.57)
Disappointment: Andrew Gaff (avg 69.12)
Wily old veteran Dean Cox seems to get better with age. I had never selected the big man in my initial SC but decided to bite the bullet this year and am happy with the result. His DPP status makes him one of the more popular choices. Josh J. Kennedy (avg 99.25) has been brilliant for someone below $300k. He has turned himself into a keeper. Scott Selwood (avg 97.50) and Luke Shuey (avg 96.38) seem to see their reflections in the umpires whistle every time they get the ball which boosts their SC scores overall. Apart from these ducking tactics, they are genuinely good players. Shannon Hurn (avg 95.38) loves to kick which has his SC scores at a decent level. Chris Masten has had a very solid start to the year.
Andrew GAFF hasn't looked good at all this season with an average just 69. He hasn't provided as much dash off the wing and his long kicking hasn't been much of a feature this year. Daniel Kerr (avg 79.40) looks so good on the field but ball use has his SC scores down.
A solid run coming up means the likes of Matt Priddis (avg 93.12) and Nic Naitanui (avg 94.67) should lift their averages. I am sure many people will be hoping Beau Waters (avg 93.50) stays on the field for a decent amount of time.
Western Bulldogs (1 wins 7 losses)
SuperCoach SuperStar: Will Minson (avg 115.12)
Bolter: Tom Liberatore (avg 94.88)
Disappointment: Luke Dahlhaus (avg 74.75)
After such a promising start to the season, the Bulldogs are now struggling down the bottom end of the ladder. Will Minson has had an outstanding start to the season which was aided by a soft-ish start to the season but is a definite POD to think about. Ryan Griffen (avg 111.83) is an outstanding player and has probably announced himself as the best midfielder for the Doggies. Tom LIBERATORE and Adam Cooney (avg 95.62) have been some of the Dogs better players this year with bigger roles for the two. Cooney has been especially good with his well-documented knee problems. Brett Goodes (avg 91.33) has proved to be a good rookie pick up.
Luke DAHLHAUS hasn't been as good this year as he was last season. His pressure game seems to have dropped off a little which has negatively affected his scores. Matthew Boyd (avg 85.40) seems to be past his best while youngster Mitch WALLIS (avg 69.14) has been sub/subbed too often and didn't play last week. With the Dogs current line-up, he really needs to be given a go. If he doesn't, he probably should seek a trade away from the Dogs. A player like him needs to play games.
No games are easy for the Doggies but they will have their eyes on a couple of wins in the next 6-8 weeks. Griffen will attract extra attention and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his form. Minson is the number one ruckman and will score fairly well. His huge work rate means he gets a heap of hitouts even though he isn't as tall as other ruckmen.
Well, that's it! All 18 clubs reviewed for the first third&rdquo; of the season. Some really interesting and surprising SC statistics came out. Dustin Martin and Luke Hodge really surprised me with their averages. I also hadn't realised how good both Scott Thompsons have been for their respective clubs.
The AFL season has been really great so far and it's been exciting to see all the different teams play. I look forward to the rest of the season and the twists and turns it will provide.
Thanks for reading the Club-by-Club SuperCoach reviews and good luck with your SC endeavours.
