    Back on subject.

    Been browsing an article on Realfooty (The Age) in their Live: Trade day 3. It examines player value over a period of time against when they were taken in the draft. The theory posited is that there is very little difference, in value terms, between picks 19-38 (i.e., second round) and there has been a history of good late second rounders. The other interesting theory is that you are mad to trade (known) established players for draft picks (unknown), but this does not address the need to delist or perennial injury-prone players. There is also an article in there examining how Hawthorn have drafted over the last decade, which throws up an interesting model for the likes of ORFFA.

    Following the idea on the real value of trade picks, it would be interesting to follow the research undertaken in the article, but using SC points scored as the measure.

    That would be the most boring GF I have witnessed.

    Australia v England in the RWC and the NRL GF put it to shame. In fact, the Mongolian synchronized swimming (women) championship put it to shame.

    If I got to choose the adventure it would have included Scarlett Johansson, chandeliers and alcohol.

    Saw it tonight, probably not a smart move with exams in coming weeks, but was a very good movie

    And gee you know ORFFA is having a quiet period when we start rating movies </div>

    Indeed :)

    I thought its fitting here, given the regional theme.
    Its a cool project and it needs some extra funds to get going. I hope it can get to the target.

    Cool plan

    Giants got shafted in the fixture, 7th hardest according to CD

    thats interesting, but I cant believe the simplicity in the analysis.
    All they've done is add up the 2015 points for and points against of all the 2016 opponents to determine hardest or easiest draws...???
    For starters, the 2015 points totals are based on the difficulty of the team's 2015 draw, so its not a particularly good measure of a team's strength.
    And it takes no consideration of breaks between games, and travel. Which surely contribute to the difficulty of a draw.

    Perhaps they have crunched the numbers and found the points totals to be more reflective than the other influences.

    </div>

    Agree 100% on methodology, I know Freo are squealing yet look good on this list.
    As far as the Giants go though, our fixture is massively harder than last year, not sure that the variance is genuinely in line with other teams in the mid 6.
    The 'inevitable' finals appearance may be delayed for a bit.

    For mine what would be informative would be if the afl were to adopt a degree of transparency in their decision making and said 'we arrived at the fixture list based on the following parameters.' </div>
    I would love it also Graeme, but it would take a very brave administration to do it, the more detail you expose the more targets you give people to take a shot at.

    Ha! Funny they are not that organised. Should be riding off the team announcment to boost ticket sales.
    Id say it'll be fairly easy to find out once they get it sorted.

    I bet you would be looking forward to it. I went to the game in Perth last season. It was pretty amazing seeing all them great players in one place at one time.

    </div>
    So, the game is on this Saturday, Snoz.
    Have you been able to find out about it?

    </div>

    I see the game was cancelled in the end.
    </div>

    I thought that too, but I believe they played it in end at the NY Jets training facility..
    Haven't heard any more though

    Correct.......game cancelled, dodgy pitch.

    Last minute call to Roger Goodall who put them in touch with the Jets - so they just had an intra-team practice here in FlorhamPark.

    .......alas........

    i think they called the game off and then played a smaller practice game at training amongst themselves.

    Cheers, I think I missed the original memo, I thought it was always to be an 'intra' practice game :)

    Anth, can honestly say there wasnary a whisper about the game, nor about the boys being in town. I did see a handful of photos posted here &amp;amp; there.......but in reality, 99% of people over here know crap about our game. All I ever here is, back in the day they'd see a game on late night tv, or highlights - and that they think its a mad sport but know nothing about it.

    Now you have to pay to see games on tv. Its not much, $15 per month for 5 games a week live - but Americans wont pay to see something they don't get.

    Word about Ireland Vs Australia being played in NYC next year or the year after can only help.

    I went to see it and half way through the film the evacuation alarm went off and the whole cinema complex at Westfield Doncaster was evacuated due to a burst water pipe which flooded some areas. Wasn't really worried but their emergency procedures were rather piss poor. If it was a life threatening emergency people would have died for sure. Anyhow, how did it end?

    Re the GF. I don't think the Hawks are as intimidatory as the Lions were in their 3peat. I think that Lions team would cower this Hawks side.

    Half way through the rescue a burst water pipe floods the space craft and they all die. If they were simply in a cinema or similar they could have exited through the back door, but being in outer space and arguably in the middle of a life threatening emergency, they stood no chance.
