Do we really need rookie DPPs in the midfield from R1?

    Good people,

I was wondering what you all think the importance is in having rookie DPP's in your midfield BEFORE the BYE.

I've got several MID rookies that I want to consider in the midfield, but am conscious of keeping two of those spots for a M/D DPP rookie and a M/F DPP rookie.

That being said, since we don't have to deal with BYES until R11, is it still essential (especially considering the lack of genuine M/D DPP rookie options)?

    Would appreciate some commentary.

    Cheers.

DPP this year is a lot less important before the bye rounds. My aim is to trade down into a couple of links prior to bye rounds. Zorko, Docherty, Couch, etc hopefully don't burst their bubble too early.

i currently have no mid DPP rookies, i cant really see any of them being locks to outscore some of the pure mid rookies that look like bringing in a fair bit of $$$

Not essential at all in the midfield but in the fwd/def with a mid link could be handy when trying to trade using the new rules.

For example you have a MF in your F8 position, you want a midfield rookie to downgrade but you want to bring in a forward instead, whoosh, across he goes.

I think that's how I see it working.

I currently have one DPP rookie in the midfield a M/F, I will have four or five M/F players in the forward line including at least one rookie so I think the flexability a M/F rookie in the midfield provides makes it worthwhile even if he is likely to score a little less than a pure mid rookie.

I had been planning to have a D/M rookie in the midfield but I agree with the OP that there is a lack of genuine M/D DPP rookie options and I am now not going to pick any M/D rookies in my side.

At the moment I have got two D/F players in my side which still provides a bit of flexabilty across the Forward, Defense and Midfield lines and also allows one more pure mid rookie then if go you for the D/M link.

I am just picking the best side and not thinking about the DPP players at this stage. So I have 6 FWDS/MIDS all with no links across any other line. Also have 3 DEF/MIDS with no link. I don't won't to sacrifice scoring potential just for a DPP link.

Exactly Lucas, And with an abundance of MID/FWD rookie options in particular this year it should work really well.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but I can't really find any good mid/def rookies that would likely outscore any of the mid rookies

I gotta say, I'm confused as to why some people are so dismissive of the MPP links. Sure, don't sacrifice a better rookie for the sake of an MPP link but even with the structured byes, the MPP links will still be needed. Injuries, suspensions and being dropped from the team are still very real fears of any coach.

I'm happy that I have reasonable MPP links in mid/def, mid/fwd and even a fwd/def.

    Gogonz tell us your links.
Most here don't downplay the help links can have; just think that they can be found later in the season.

I gather you consider the rookies you get now to be keepers?

    To be honest, I don't think any of them are keepers! And of course, they're all subject to being picked rd 1. But here goes;

    fwd/def - Smedts/Tomlinson
    fwd/mid - goodes, fyfe, treloar/Pfeiffer
    def/mid - goddard/deledio/brown (luke) - golds

Unsure on links for FM and DM
Why would you pick Treloar/Pfeiffer in the mids ahead of a legit mid? Ditto Brown

I can see you at the moment clugging your midfield bench with MPP players.

FD you should also consider Paine in the mix

Actually, the only MPP in the mids are Pfeiffer & Golds. Could be Treloar or Brown though. The other mids are Swan, Selwood, Murphy, Ablett, Magner & Gibson. Plethora of options for mid/fwd DPP's that are legitimate prospects. But agree, it's a bit thinner for def/mids.

Fair in the 3rd tall role.
Has had full NAB time. Dawes playing 2nd ruck.

I can't see Wood replacing him (though that is a possibility I must admit), and there's not many other younger tall players putting their hand up for a forward position.

I don't rate Pfeiffer and Golds compared to pure mid options.

Know what you mean..... My genuine mids are looking like Magner & Smith if they can get elevated. If Couch gets elevated and named, Pfeiffer is out on his @ss!
