Just kicking this off to help HOLKY out. Can change and delete as you wish. Eden is a town on the far South Coast of NSW and it boasts the third deepest natural harbour in the southern hemisphere. Currently the population is around 3,000. About 2,000 of these are tree huggers and 1,000 are tree cutters for the woodchip industry. Prior to the arrival of whitey, the area was populated by the Thawa people of the Yuin nation. /Portals/0/User%20Images/eden003.jpg George Bass and Matthew Flinders both landed here in the late 1700s. The first whaling station was established in 1828. The Yuin aboriginals crewing the boats refused to kill the orca whales and instead worked in partnership with them to herd humpbacks into Twofold Bay. Being equidistant between Sydney and Melbourne, Eden was at one time considered as a potential site for the Australian capital. Just think, James Hird could have been born here! <img alt='' width='421' height='220' src='/Portals/0/User%20Images/eden001.jpg[/img]<img alt='' width='309' height='219' src='/Portals/0/User%20Images/eden002.jpg[/img] The local Aussie Rules team are called the Eden Whalers and bring a long and proud tradition to the ORFFU.

Cheers, TIB. The name actually came from the SCAFL team I played for this year, we had a good season except on the scoreboard. Depending on when the draft is, I may have to hire a fellow Whaler as a selector. I'll play it by ear.

'Tis indeed a world getting smaller. I may be sitting in Bangkok now, but I grew up in Narooma and my sister was a teacher at Eden for many years (may have even taught you!!!). I worked on tuna boats out of Bermagui as a teenager, back in the day when there were Southern Bluefin.

Nice part of the worlddown there TiB and Holky. As an ex-Canberra boy I've gotplenty ofmemories of mis-spent school holidays at Tuross Head, can of something cheap in hand, watching the humpbacks go by. For that reason Holky I'm torn as to whether the Whalers are going to be my second 'FU team, or arch-rivals.

Bit of a slap in the face for David Hale. 5 months ago he won a flag and now he can't get a game at the Whalers! We might have to have a coffee with him.

Hale will probablyget some games on the forward line, because to clarify ((e) 4 Emergenciescan be selected. 1 emergency per line. They come in if a selected player does not play.) This indicates thatemergencies aren't compulsory. Hale will more than likely find a FWD role.

Round 1 Report: Eden Whalers 1217 vs Blanchetown Bunyips 1450 We lost, yes I know. But aside from that a lot of positives can be drawn from this game, one is our younger players stepped up with Curnow scoring 115 and Aish filling in for Griffen scoring 61. A great effort from Jones scoring 142 also helped, Adelaide defenders being out didn't help, Reilly should be in next week, Grant's 1-2 weeks and Griffen should be in next week. Expecting to win against Gisborne but won't take them lightly.

Round 2 Results: [span style='font-size: 16px;]Gisborne 896 vs Eden 1257 Good win there guys, we'll have to lift though against the Goannas. Same team will be selected as last week but with some minor changes: Curnow is now in the midfield and no token emergencies. That being said, looking for improvement and I reckon it can be done so go out there with no doubts. And Hale, nice work on your 200th, looking for something good on the forward line from you.

Round 3 Results: Eden 1014 vs Goondiwindi 1319 Okay, we lost but let's put that behind us and focus on this week. We're playing Manangatang and hopefully have Lynch and Otten returning from injury... that being said, it's to early to say our ship's coming in just yet.

Southern Cross are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Whalers this weekend. We've set up the accomodation (tents on the netball courts), turned off the hot water and removed the toilet paper from the visitors rooms. You guys are used to paradise, believe me Southern Cross will feel like hell to you. With an almost full strength list (2 of best 15 missing) we assure you there will be no repeat of the pityful performance we put up last week against Gisborne. As much as we would like an early mid season draft choice we will be focusing on halting the losing run at 2 matches and restoring some pride to our town and locals. We hope your prepared for our wrath, this match will be one for the ages!

Round 5 Report: [span style='font-size: 16px;]Eden Whalers 1164 vs Southern Cross Sandgropers 1230 An interesting game, definitely... we got all the BAFFU votes and still lost. The gap between best and worst was too wide, 4 players getting a total of 74 doesn't get wins, 3 were vested though so they'll improve. Great work from the midfielders though, Jones, Thompson and Griffen getting the 3-2-1. The rest we'll work on.
