Seems that an over-zealous construction worker cut our phone line yesterday and delayed the release this installment from Terry in Bangkok for a bit, but Im back now, and with 7 days to go, will get his articles up with a bit of rapid-fire action! So without further ado:

Okay, here is the promised second installment and with this one it gets a bit harder. There are many choices who will get game time, but would not be considered for most teams. Thus the choices become subjective and are really a matter of personal opinion. Robin Nahas is a good player, butwill not be seriously considered for a lot of teams or be on a lot of watchlists. Why forward options in this price range are even considered is because there is a dearth of premiums and an ever decreasing list of rookie options. Thus we start to cast our eyes a little higher than the rooks to see what is available. There are one or two in this list that will likely make it onto many SuperCoach teams.
Have been a bit liberal with the price range, it is really 170-300k, with Sam Day (178,600) already covered in the rookies. As per the rookie list, players in bold are those likely to get a R1 start (obviously the GC rookies and the Petrie Dish will start R2, but you know what we mean).

This list is also a bit more contentious than the rookies. Feel strongly about someone or disagree, then jump on.

    Adelaide

    Jack Gunston 190,700
Quiet NAB, but the coach seems keen to give him game time. Gotta love the name.

    Chris Knights 237,500
Up and down, in and out, but you would have to say yes, the Crows have high hopes for Knights this season and so far he hasn’t let them down. Darling of the masses and should appreciate if he remains uninjured.

    Taylor Walker 300,100
If the Crows have a good season, he is likely to play a major part in it. Most likely the go to man and will not be distracted by GC talk. Certainly an option but there is always that fear of being burnt by a Tippett #2.

    Carlton

    Chris Yarran 300,800
Rediscovered as a DEF and the name on many lips. An expensive risk that may reap big rewards. Will end up in quite a few teams.

    Collingwood

    Andrew Krakouer [MID] 200,600
Has ticked all the boxes so far and will be in most teams. A steal at this price, but may be slower to appreciate than some think. Almost a must have.

    Brad Dick 274,200
If Krakouer slips, Dick will pounce. Likely to be a pinch hitter or Malthouse weapon of mass destruction off the bench this year. Hopefully his shoulders will hold up.

    Essendon

    Kyle Hardingham 249,600

While one great NAB performance does not a summer make, it seems his injury will have resolved the question for many considering him. Has shown enough signs in a rejuvenated team to be high on watchlists.

    Fremantle

    Michael Walters 222,500
Despite competition from Ballantyne and Mayne, has a chance to hold a position with some good NAB hit outs. Much will depend on what FWD structure Freo decide upon. It seems Pav and Fyfe may spend more time in the MID, while Anthony could possibly spud it, thus increasing his chances.

    Geelong

    Daniel Menzel [DEF] 261,100
Price probably a bit high for the risk, but some good things being said at the Cattery and will likely get opportunities to plug holes throughout the year. May rise as the Moon sets, but talk of a breakout could be a bit premature.

    Mitchell Duncan [MID] 281,600
Given the dearth of premium FWDs, one is tempted to look beyond to fill that hole between prems and rookies. Will be a regular member of the 22 and has shown all the good signs. If Chappy doesn’t shape up, you would be tempted to jump on.

    Melbourne

    Addam Maric 218,000
Intriguing case. Has been in the system for some time now and kicked a few in the final NAB round. Will probably take some of the load as Watts develops, but keep a close eye on him.

    North Melbourne

    Drew Petrie [RUC] 216,000
She loves me, she loves me not. Big effort in the final NAB round has everyone having a rethink. Has already started to moo and, tempted by the loot, many will jump on.

    Port Adelaide

    Andrew Moore [DEF] 171,700
Interrupted pre-season but quite a few wraps on him at Alberton and will be a player of the future. More likely a serious consideration in 2012.

    Cameron Hitchcock 241,600
Saved a lot of bacons last year, but no more MPP and price is a bit hefty. Will get plenty of game time but needs 1-2 years to ripen.

    Daniel Stewart 250,800
Seems to have been chosen as Port’s solution to the backup RUC. Probably the one (along with Trengove) most likely to put his hand up at Port this year. Uncertain where he will play, but he will play and has shown he can kick a goal.

    Richmond

    Jayden Post [DEF] 178,600
Good effort in the final NAB loss, otherwise pretty much unseen. Price is tempting and has potential to be a regular.

    Matthew Dea 215,500
Probably ahead of Miller and Taylor, but behind Griffiths. TV being reinvented as a FWD might deny him the opportunity and Nahas seems to have the small forward spot locked up.

    St. Kilda

    Ryan Gamble 184,900
The jury is still out and much depends on the Gilbert Experiment and where they decide to fit Kozzie in. Hard to read much out of the Saint’s NAB effort. Attractive at this price and a few will be tempted.

    Rhys Stanley [RUC] 203,700
With the current ruck problems at St. Kilda, likely to get a run following a reasonable NAB. This year will tell if he is the future ruck for the Saints. Would be handy for the old switcheroo if you had Petrie.

    Sydney

    Gary Rohan [MID] 291,400
While currently under an injury cloud himself, all it will take is a major injury to the Swans MID or FWD and Rohan will grab his chance with both hands. Difficult to understand why the Swans persist with the great White hope as their tall and they have a good bunch of smalls. Star of the future.

    Western Bulldogs

    Patrick Vezpremi 214,600
Hall insurance and says a lot about Sydney’s depth. Can certainly play, but will have competition, particularly given Stack’s NAB performance. If Gia spends more time in the midfield, may get a chance.

    Brennan Stack 238,400
Good NAB performance may get him a look in, but Eade likely to stick to his tried and true for the first 6 rounds. Certainly one to watch and showing good signs.
