As a Carlton supporter, my heart says Gibbs, but there's this little man in my brain saying Deledio is the way to go. Both were No.1 draftees, but Deledio has a settled role now & has been in the system that little bit longer. The talk is that Gibbs role will be different from last year's & that Carlton intend to use him in the middle more. But if we have Juddy & Murphy in there & McClean can actually stay injury free & play to his ability (I have my fingers crossed), I can see us putting him in the backline again. This may, or may not unsettle him somewhat & affect his output. What are people's thoughts??
My answer is simple...have both. Lock backs are Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio. Wouldn't skimp on Gibbs, will still average 100 for the year no matter where he plays, upside is with more time in the middle he may get a few 120+ games and average 110 or so.
Gibbs is a must definantly and i have tossed around the idea of no Lids but always come back to him.. Who else in backline is going to get you 100+ each week!!!
I have BJ Gibbs and Deledio, but have toyed with the idea of replacing Deledio with Newman, in the possibility of Newman averaging ~100 and Deledio remaining flat. However, can't bring myself to do it, as Deledio has the ability to break through to 110ppg range (Newman doesn't).
Imo they're both locks with BJ - and with a couple of Mid/Backs in the Heppell mould in with the mids, you've got you're byes (and God forbid, injuries) covered. I see the DPP's more vital this season than ever before, it's just a matter who you position where!!!
Yep, the mob has spoken on this one, Goddard, Gibbs and Deledio were the first 3 picked in many teams.
Must take advantage of such midfielder type players being named as backmen. Pick both without question. No brainer for D1-3.
It sounds like everyone's backline is going to be very similar, expecially with players like Heppell, Hibberd, D. Stanley, Puopolo, Duigan, Batchelor etc. I may have to sacrifice a forward to free up some cash so I can afford both of them.
