My team seems to include Sam Gilbert, then get rid of him more often than any other player. Have had him in the back and the forward.

Any thoughts of if he is a premium or not? Will he take time out of his busy photography career to play good footy? If so, back or forward?

He seems to cheap to be a premium..

I think his role is somewhat uncertain although I think he will prob play in defence mostly.

Also, IMO, hard to know if any offseason stuff has affected his preparation and whether his mind will be totally focussed on the job.

I did have the same thought earlier re Roo but he is so good and such a hard worker he prob will want to come out and stick it up everyone. So I think more likely he will fire early.

Gilbert is good but maybe not as mentally tough?

    My two cents worth...

He's a watch and see for mine. His B/F could make him a godsend in the second half of the season, but I think watching his new role first will be the order of the day for mine before pouncing later on in the season.

Well he has been pretty much been training with the forwards 100% of the open training sessions so the move forward could actually be a certain thing, not a Ross Lyon mind game.. For mine i would be waiting til round 14 after our 2nd bye as that will give you a good idea at how he's going and what his role will be. He is also a week or two behind the rest of the group due to a small injury earlier in the preseason.

One other factor you may need to consider is he is out of contract at years end and likely could be in GWS sights.

I'm not touching Gilbert at his start price (based largely on being a floating defender in 2010) when he is going to be playing as a FWD in 2011. There are plenty of others to choose from at around his price.

Correct Jason. Run I would suggest.

I had him last year after he tore the Pies apart then he moved into a pseudo-forward role in the absence of Riewoldt.

For a few weeks his score fell apart, then they put him back as the Saints decided to stick with their back line structure and make small alterations up forward - effectively back the defence to win them games.

This worked, Gilbert got a few more touches down back and my SC year was back on track.

If he plays forward, I'm concerned for his scoring. I'd predict 80s but not 90s.

I too would not touch Gilbert. DPP isnt enticing enough at his price, and I think there are better options forward and back.

One ton in his last 10 games off half back tends to suggest the taggers got to him
