Obviously a lot of speculation involved, but thought I would start a thread on who everyone is thinking is most likely to get a game for the Gold Coast come round 1. Here's a starting point: B - Harbrow, Coad, Brown HB - Krakouer, Bock, Iles C - Swallow, Harris, Ah Chee HF - Brennan, Day, Bennell F - Matera, Ablett (N), Prestia R - Fraser, Rischitelli, Ablett (G) INT - Smith, Caddy, Hunt, May There's be 10 players with a higher price than Swallow - so you'll only have 12 'rookies' playing each week. With the chance of rotations for those on the fringe, maybe 6-7 GC rookies is the safer option.
Charlie Dixon would be in their best 22. But apart from that pretty much what id expect on the basic research ive done
Is Ah Chee on the main list, seeing as how he came through the rookie draft?, Would Lock be in the best 22 if he is a part of the leadership group? Seems a bit strange to make him a leader and then play him in the 2s
While Lock is in the leadership group, I still see him being rotated through the team as a lot of the GC rookies are going to be. I remember reading an article a couple of months backs about how they are looking to be getting about 12 games into a lot of their rookies, which means a lot of turmoil and a lot of in and out.
Yep, Marc Lock and Maverick Weller are both 'leaders of the club' and likely to play Rd 1. Josh Toy would be a chance too. The problem I have with playing more than a couple of GC rookies is the size of their list. They have 52 players on their list this year. With 80% of those under 20 that makes for a lot more competition for spots than most people seem to be counting on. McKenna is going to want to see as many of them in action as possible before he has to trim the list at years end. There may be a dozen regulars but everyone else will be pretty much week to week propositions. So if a guy has two quiet games there's 5 more guys in his position waiting for their shot. The idea than any rookie named first up for GC has better job security than those at other clubs is massively flawed in my opinion. Of course there'll be success stories; there'll also be bubble boys who never make a price change. High reward but don't kid yourself about the accompanying risk. Every loss will present an opportunity to try out a couple more players so unless you think GC will be winning early on I'd be wary of loading up on rookies.
Josh Toy on the bench? Haha, I see that you've retracted your earlier 11 GC rookie strategy after seeing this in full perspective Holey.

They're no chance of finals and will just be trying to develop their kids, they will get the smallest chunk of the 3300 pie and have very few rookies playing every game. I'm sticking to a maximum of 4 - Smith, Toy, N Ablett & Swallow - plus the R4 MPP dummy J Tippett.
Great thread Holey. At least GC play their NAB round as games 2 & 3 so can only make the three emergency changes to the squad. Should firm this up quite a bit.

Is it just me or is that first side worse than Fitzroy's team from 1996? I reckon that side is as bad on paper as Collingwood's 2003 GF team (haha any regular reader will know how much I bag that team) OK, on the strength of that team, I'd be loading up on Fraser. GAJ will be a good scorer, just whether you pick him immediately or upgrade is the question. Bock I would suggest could be a defensive upgrade target - him or Harbrow after R9. The ball is going to be down there a while. Rookies will take longer to develop, so you'd be thinking they will be more likely to be late upgrades or end of season cover. That's where I see Swallow and Harris. Very good start cheaper players, and the guys who you can do your last upgrades on. Finally I would love to take a risk on a few other rookies there but as to who will get a good run, I'm not certain any of them have more claims, apart from the guy earning $1m.
