Here is the base decisions I would like to table:
    • we move to a 15 week home and away season (everyone plays each other once, with the 4 byes like this season)
    • We have a four week traditional finals series
Note we can discuss when the season starts / finishes (round 1 or 2 and therefore round 23 or 24) closer to next season start... it will have to be before draft starts however!

First past the post with this one too.... so first to 9

Please let me know with a thumbs up when you have voted, saves me having to chase people

    Hi @Bandit
I just saw your message that you're waiting on coaches to pick their finals opponents.
We voted in this poll here to move to a 4 week traditional finals series now that we're down to 16 teams. I assumed that to mean same as AFL, ie 1v4, 2v3, 5v8 & 6v7 in the first week

Hmmm, I might be guilty of assumption here too @anthak

When I meant four weeks finals series, I meant instead of the three week series we used to have ie: teams get double chance etc.

I didn't think the part through where the teams were selected by default by ladder position.

Did I assume the wrong thing... I don't really mind either way, but before I post the FIXture can someone sanity check my thinking here?

The four week finals system could work either way, based on ladder position as @anthak has mentioned ie 1v4, 2v3, 5v8 & 6v7 in the first week, or remaining an element of highest ranked team in a bracket choosing their opponent as we have done previously.

For the first week of the finals there are two brackets, teams 1-4 playing qualifying finals and teams 5-8 playing elimination finals. Winners of the qualifying finals progress to host a preliminary final. Teams that lose qualifying finals host a semi final in week 2 of the finals. Winners of the elimination finals advance to be the visiting side for a semi final, the season is over for the teams that are defeated in an elimination final.

    The top 4 teams are:

    1 @chris88 ’s Nareewillock Nuffers
    2 @Bandit ’s Charlies Opening Spelunkers
    3 @snoz ’s Gundagai Grasshoppers
    4 @bama ’s Mount Beauty Uglies

If we want to retain the element of the highest ranked team choosing their opponent Chris would choose his opponent out of the 3rd placed Grasshoppers and 4th placed Uglies for the Nuffers home qualifying final. In the other qualifying final Bandit’s Spelunkers would host the third or fourth placed team that Chris doesn’t select.

    5 @JC ’s Birdsville Battlers
    6 @graeme ’s Waikickamoocow Incorrigbles
    7 Dean’s Cradle Mountain Devils
    8 @Jen ‘s Lovely Bank Lilacs

The elimination finals for fifth to eighth would work in a similar fashion. JC as coach of the fifth placed Battlers would choose his elimination final opponent out of the 7th placed Devils and 8th placed Lilacs. Graeme's 6th placed Cows would host the remaining 7th or 8th placed team in the other elimination final.

I really don't mind either way... just we have a bit of time pressure.... well not really, it is a 30 second job, just need to coordinate the messages/conversations

I'd actually prefer to follow the AFL final series as Anth posted above, no nominations blah blah. Anyway, that's my vote but over here in the US that generally doesn't count hahahaha

OK, I'll make a call for this season.

Let's just go the AFL way for this season... whilst I do like the ability for highest placed teams to choose their own adventure, we can dsicuss this as a vote through the season next year.

At least this will remove the ambigiggity

Good summary, DMA. I hadnt looked as closely at the ladder. If I had, I also would have realised that Snoz shouldnt have had a choice either way.

Good decision I think. We can discuss further about whether to go with voting in a 4 week series and how that looks before the 2025 finals series
