I think most of us are using the Fanplanner on FanFooty to play around with our preseason teams. It's a great tool that I use every year. One thing I've noticed from previous years is that player discounts can be hard to predict, and m0nty tends to err on the side of generosity when discounting players in the Fanplanner.

I know we'll probably have all the prices in a few days but I was wondering how much influence the proposed discounts are having on player selection. So I've picked out some popular choices and I'm asking: would you pay more to get these guys into your squad, and if so, how much?

Andy Otten - 230,700 @40% from 384,500
Likely to get the full 40% discount after missing last year. Would you still take him at 269,000 (30%)? I think I would go to 307,600 (20%).

Nathan Foley - 283,700 @40% from 472,800
Played 4 games. Unlikely to get full discount. At 378,200 (20%) slips well and truly off my radar.

Daniel Kerr - 300,400 @20% from 375,500
Played 4 games. Wouldn't go any higher but with 20% discount comes into consideration.

Luke Shuey - 224,00 @40% from 373,300
Played 6 games. Very unlikely to get full discount. Should end up about the same, or maybe higher, price as Kerr. Not for me.

Ricky Petterd - 254,400 @40% from 424,000
Played 6 games. Very unlikely to get full discount. At 339,200 (20%) becomes harder to justify.

Brock McLean - 215,900 @40% from 359,800
Played 6 games. Very unlikely to get full discount. At 287,800 (20%) could still be value but would need to show more preseason.

Drew Petrie - 224,500 @20% from 280,600
Played 2 games. Will be cheap regardless and could even slip under 200K. If he plays Rd 1 I'll have him.

Pat Veszpremi - 191,200 @40% from 318,600
Played 1 game. May not get full discount. At 223,000 (30%) or even 254,900 (20%) still warrants consideration if he secures a spot.

For anyone wondering, these are not official prices. They are estimates based on discounts applied in previous seasons.

Is 40% the largest possible discount?
Im considering Brodie Martin priced at around 250k and played 2 games last year so I assume he will get that 40% discount. I was considering Shuey but i dont want to pay anymore than 300k for him.
Nice write up though Perie and Otten are the only ones in consideration

Yer DAZZLER is sticking with Petrie, even with less dissy, he will be a steal...
Veszpremi as well, is in DAZZLER's radar ATM..
Urquart's 10% is intersting DAZZLER as well..
Otten = STEAL
Charman might be more prepared this year..

Nice thread. You seem to have a handle on the discounting, could you explain what has been applied in previous years? e.g. what did Malceski, Waters, Maguire etc. have, and from how many games played?

From last year:

Maguire: Fanplanner - 94,200, Started - 114,000
Kennelly: Fanplanner - 241,400, Started - 320,700

This shows the discounts from last year:

mOnty does a great job trying to predict discounts but Supercoach seems to vary the system and make changes in individual cases. That said, last year every player with a discount of 30% or more only played 1-2 games or missed the entire previous season. So I'm guessing guys who played 4-6 games will get a 20% discount at best.

Thanks Wal. Otten & Petrie are in my side, but it sounds as though their prices will be the same or cheaper than the predictions.

One thing I've heard along the way is-

0 games 40%
1-3 games: 30%
4-5 games: 20%
6-7 games: 10%
8+ games No discount

Which make Petrie even tastier, but reduces the niceness on all those 4 game 40%ers

Thanks walesy. I wonder why m0nty isn't using that.

One thing I remember from last year that for a few guys who scored 0s and even some more who scored < 10 that game didn't count towards their overall and hence lifted their average.
Not sure who it will affect this year but there may be a few players who rise because of this.

Petries price will be $216,600. Such a bargain, I reckon even the autoselects would have him!
