2012 List Analysis:
Welcome to the AFL GWS. It will be a warm welcome from most teams, who will enjoy the opportunity to munch on percentage, just as much as Kevin Sheedy and Mark Williams will be pumping depth into a great bunch of kids. They might win a game, if lucky they will get two. Im almost certain that they will take home the wooden spoon, but with that comes the first draft pick, and another drink at the draft table, particularly potent when they can use the PSD to their advantage.
In terms of the list, well its not just shallow, its extremely poor as well. Theres just nothing for anyone to be really excited about in terms of dominating the year, like Ablett in 2011 at Gold Coast. Though it is going to get ugly often, I can see a bit more potential in the older mids of GWS providing depth, and the forward line not being hopeless. Therefore I actually think GWS have built the list more intelligently than GC, learning all the lessons.
The GWS list rating is 11 and a depth of 7. This ranks their list and depth as the worst. So the aim this year is to put the draftees into the midprice ranks - every single one of them. Like Gold Coast, these kids just need time and good development coaches. Im sure they will be a power soon, but certainly not in 2012. In fact the Supercoach prospects to me look pretty ordinary even for their better players. The kids will be rested. They are a big unknown in terms of their policy to rest their kids.

2012 Fixture Analysis:
Fixture Analysis has been completed on 2011 Finishing Position (GWS is ranked 18)
Highlights:
- GWS have a tougher than average start, and dont get any favours really until the end of the year, and even then its not a great run. I dont think it matters much, they would struggle to win anyway.
- GWS have the bye in Round 11. This means that you can trade their playing rookies up/down before then and adjust your bye strategies.
- My advice with GWS is only rookies and choose carefully.
<a href="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/GWS_Fixture2012.jpg"><img class="alignleft wp-image-5196" src="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/GWS_Fixture2012.jpg" alt="" width="466" height="44" />[/url]
Games have been grouped as the average finishing position of their opponents, sorted in a 5 match collection, apart from the first and last 4 games, which are listed to see which teams can really start and end the year with a bang. Start represents the round number to begin the analysis, and stop means the round number to end. If a team played GWS and Gold Coast, then their ranking for 2 games would be 17.5 rounded to 18. If a team played Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn and WCE in a run of 5 games, the ranking for these would be 3 (the average finishing position of last years top 5). Anything close to 18 is good. Anything close to 3 (or even 1 or 2 in the first 4 or last 4 rounds) is bad.
Purple: Less than 5 games to assess
Yellow: Key trading period
Green: Easy run of matches
Red: Difficult run of matches
Orange: Medium difficulty run of matches
Greater Western Sydneys Top 5 Players for your Supercoach Team:
1 - Jonathan Giles (RUC) - Unless Dean Brogan gets in the way, hes probably the first selected in everyones team.
2 - Devon Smith (FWD-MID) - Looks set to play fairly often this season, and gives the forward line a nice depth. MPP is handy.
3 - Stephen Coniglio (MID) - Quality young player, maybe a touch too high priced, but certainly worth all the big wraps on him. Look for a year similar to Swallows from GC last year.
4 - Anthony Miles (MID) - Good form last year in the NEAFL. Must be considered seriously.
5 - Tomas Bugg (DEF) - Defensive option and probably going to get a fair bit of ball down there this year.
