Now this is the game we've been waiting for. Can Hawthorn bring it to WA this year? Can West Coast play footy? Are Freo the team to beat?

    Who's going to shine tonight??

Will watch the opening 10minutes to see if Big Max can survive without doing a knee, and then will probably turn it off and watch something entertaining.

There will be a whopping 3-5 players who I will have actually heard of in the hawks team. It's hard enough to give a rats about the preseason comp at the best of times, but the new rules+my own mob fielding what looks like a highschool side got rid of the excitement all together.

Will enjoy the "derby" though in game 3.

oh comeon Spud. Will be great to watch no matter what team we put out!

I have lived in Perth for the last year, and just moved overseas a few weeks ago. We were always planning to leave in Jan, but when I found out Hawks were playing in Perth for NAB round 1, I floated the idea of holding off for a few weeks to be able to see them before we left. but didnt happen...

Still, we get the games live on TV over here, so I'll be watching and cant wait now. only an hour away! :D

Where Overseas anthak? lol we don't get it live on TV here unless you got Austar!

Come on Spud; The idea is to see the future of your club, they're playing these youngens to see who is any good for the future!

Patersons is what they call Subiaco Oval now-they finally sold out.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Viv Michie, mzungu and pitt to see who my rookies will be this year! Faulks in the back line should be good to see too!

And who is not wanting to see Gaff in action?! We know how much WCE need him

Yeah fair enough Ant, i got into our games which was good. I was just concerned as I had not been able to sit through a whole match prior to our one whereas I usually have no issues watching a game simply for the sake of it.

Happy with the fight back from our young kids vs the Eagles, Clarko will have liked that. Pleased with P.Puopolo and Smith as well over both games.

Mzungu(insert rest of alphabet) looks a ripper! Will no doubt be a lock if he wasn't already.

Not sure if big Max went walk abouts as he was meant to play. I just hope I don't read somewhere tomorrow morning that the kid did his 4th ACL while changing into his shorts/stepping off the plane/insert any other potentially career ending activity.

I loved watching it! Hawks should get through as lucky loser you would think. They did really well with such a 2nd string side.

    Puopolo was great!
Smiths 9pointer was a highlight for him - did it easy.

Mzungu, was even better than expected. and i expected a lot.

Faulks was good, but didnt have much to beat down there.

    @Brocky - Hanoi, Vietnam

    Go Hawks!! :D

Would love to see another week Ant, just so we can look at the up and comers on TV for a slightly longer period.

I'm not sure how likely it is though. Adelaide are already ahead of us on percentage, and one would think if the GC can stem the bleeding against the Swans, that they should absolutely trounce GWS to put them way ahead of us. I see them as our biggest threat.

Not too fussed to be honest though. Challenge games are played on decent grounds nowadays. Even more so, the ridiculous rain fall will have ensured any once-hard ground should be nice and soft. So long as it's not played at injury-had(sounds like etihad after a few frothies) stadium

plus challenge games are played under proper rules yeah? pretty sure they are. so its not all bad to go out of NAB.

I watched all 3 games today, except first half of weagles freo game, but cant remember much of Gaff.
How did he go? Anyone notice?

Good to see Carlton gone though Spud hehe!

Anthak, the 2020 rules are only in Rd1 of the NAB, the second round of the NAB reverts to relatively normal rules.

The interchange basketball ruling as some would call it seemed to heavily advantage being 2nd to the ball and then pushing the opponent over the line.

That should never be encouraged in the main game, though some umpire rulings on holding the ball in the past year or so have not advantaged the player getting in first.

That is, unless you're Duckwood or Swallow

Haha can't argue with that Lucas :D

I'm sure from a Pies point of view beating Carlton at anything, whether it be a game of marbles or a sudoku puzzle would be enjoyable given the rivalry!

Yeah spot on with the basketball rule. It's in addition to the 1.5x the score for shooting outside the arc (i hope they're not trying to turn it into Bball). It goes against what every footballer will have been taught - attack the ball and make a contest of it, where this rule seems to favour, as you said, being second and knocking your opponent into it.

Looking forward to seeing the GC kids on the weekend, and hopefully get a bit more insight into the Geelong lineup and how the Swans will play okeefe/goodes this year.

I think we will find only snippets for the next few weeks until things coalesce in the last week before we enter our teams.

GC will be the big team to watch as really they can't afford to waste any match practice given they haven't played any AFL-quality games yet.

Good point re. GC not being able to muck around and waste an opportunity.

Hopefully they line up and play players in the positions that they're likely to do so during the year so we can get a good look at how they're doing their role. Would quite like to see them get through as a wildcard so we can see how they function as a team for a proper ~80minute match under relatively normal conditions/rules.

If they do get a WC, I'm sure the Pies will be more than happy to welcome GC to the big stage and show them the difference between a premiership side and a new entrant side, isn't that right Lucas?

Haha I can just picture blood on the ground in this instance! Do you think they'll actually beat the pants clean of them? ...guess they would be the gold coast 'moons' then, hey

Just remembering Jack Watts's intro to AFL footy. Yeah it could get nasty. Personally hope the pies focus on their own structures and whatnot though

Big Question... Is Jack Watts the player to get this year? He's filled out a bit, and looked like he wants the footy in the round 1 Nab Cup...
