Apparently the HS is about to release the average SC per player for the NAB cup. If it's just the average score per player can anyone think of a way to make the scores more relevant and insightful???

Surely they would break it down Round by Round like the previous 2-3 years? if it's an overall average then it could throw a lot of coaches into a spin!

Even round-by-round is useless if you don't know if the players themselves played only half a game and got subbed off.

In previous NAB cups you might have had squads of 25 to deal with. This year there were squads of something like 28 (to deal with the 2&2 rule),and lots of teams subbed swathes of their team at half time.

TOG and PPM (pts per minute) are the key factors in assessing the numbers. They won't be that readable without this insight.

in the round reviews that Walesy completed after each Nab Cup round he mentioned at the end who was subbed on and off. Fan Footy also metnions on their live scores who have been subbed on and off at at what stage. but for an accurate TOG %???????????

You can find TOG for all NAB games at AFL match centre. You need to look under fixtures & results, NAB cup, then advanced stats for each match.

Anyone reckon they can whip up a spreadsheet incorporating TOG and PPM?

Jaredal, with respect, you probably have about 10 GWS players to research for final thinking.

Of them probably 4 are already locked in, and the other 6 are maybes from which you will select two.

You do have a full week longer to get the rest of the rookies and team right.

Well its up guys. They have separated it into 2 categories. TOG and just their points from every ground with their average of course. The big few that stand out are David hale with scores of 109, 134 and 119 for an average of 121! Mastern ranks well for the best average increase along with luke parker. Of the rookies Dickson looks the best value in the forwards, Smith, ledger and the magnet in the mids and morris and bugg in the backs.

And for those of us who LOVE spreadsheets, I have combined the info. For some reason Jarred Moore wasn't listed in the Preseason scores but made it in the Points per game (I suppose because he only plyed 7 mins and didn't manage any SC points...). Hope you find it useful - as basic as it is...

I noticed that no nab round 1 stats were given/counted in the Herald Sun's data!

Anyone know the magic number calculation for SC, the formula as well? Not really relevant to NAB, but if you can multiply their pts/TOG by average players TOG during season could get an idea on what their average will be in a normal game. I know, I know its NAB.

I had an excel sheet last year, but a computer formatting lost it.

<edit>Well found the formula just need the Magic Number.

    [SUM(past 3 games)/3 x 5000] x 0.25 + [current price] x 0.75

"Stats are like a lamp post to a drunk, good for support, but don't really illuminate anything."

Did some numbers and found out it's pretty useless so no point in sharing.
