i was just looking through my old paperwork I’ve kept filed away and I found a letter congratulating me “on being the coach of the round for round 2 of supercoach 1998 with a score of 1865 points.” It was when I was in high school and I won $1000 and some merch. I remember it clearly, but I couldn’t remember what the competition was and who ran it. As it turns out, it looks like it was an early version of “supercoach” - at least that’s what it was called. The congratulations letter is from Tricom Group, whose head office was in Malvern Vic. I also have another letter apologising for the delay in my merch being delivered, but this letter is from ACP Action from Oakleigh Vic, and has a letterhead that says Inside Football. Back in 1998, we had to do our team selections and trades etc over the phone. I think it was a 1900 number so I probably spent $1000 in phone calls lol Does anyone know when the current form of Supercoach started up?
Been playing for such a long time with the same boof-head mates. I’d say at least 8 or 9 years. I still have the league winners posters from 2009 (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016). League name has been SMACKMYASS from year 1. 2018 I’m looking good to take the chocolates.
Yeah I definitely remember playing in 2009, and I’m fairly sure 2008 as well, but I can’t really remember back that far. I’m also pretty sure I remember playing fantasy footy online prior to 2008, but I cant remember what game it was - I’m pretty sure it was dreamteam which is now AFL Fantasy. supercoach I think I started in 2008, but I wasn’t very (too) serious about it until around 2010/11.
Wikipedia says There were 349,124 players in 2009 This article I found in Wikipedia refers to supercoach prior to 2005: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/afl/fi...the-cult-of-fantasy-footy-20110323-1c6jl.html
Intriguing ant, amazing the wikipedia spread. BTW, I found TS eight years ago from a reference in the age on fantasy friendly sites. Some might say, what a pity. What resonated with me in the smh article was how, at that time, the afl regarded fantasy players as building blocks for the future of the game. Now, IMO, they ignore us (and the players). The evidence? Scheduling of games in ways that are fantasy unfriendly; for example, Thursday to Sunday schedules in the bye rounds but seldom in the full rounds. Rant over, back to mid-season drafting.
