Hey all, I will be tallying the votes of ORFFA teams and players throughout the year for a Brownlow style medal, and at the end of the year, day by day, I will release a rounds results. We will be using a 5-4-3-2-1 voting system. Few things, do we want to use the term ORFFA Brownlow? Or any other ideas for a name for the award? Are we all happy with the format, and how the votes will be released at the end of year, and day by day, my reasons for doing this will be at the end of the year we have something to keep us interested until a trade period comes around. But happy to here objections and alternative options though Cheers, Fitzy Edit: Nominations for name of the prestigious medal close on Friday the 8th or March, really shouldn't take that long to think of a name though. Once we have the suggested names, each team will vote on which name they prefer before Friday the 15th of March. Nominations so far: Zac Dawson Medal Nathan Buckley Medal Gary Ablett Medal ORFFA Brownlow Medal Relton Roberts Medal The Lethal Medal The Wales Medal The McCarthy Medal The BAROFFA Medal The Bob Davis Medal <p >
How do you see the voting working Fitzy? Would you be appointing umpires for each game, or we vote on our own games, or ...? Having to vote on every game each week sounds like more work than I am up for, but other than that query I like your outline
Should of mentioned that Lenh, I will go through the games and elect the highest scorer 5 votes, second highest scorer 4, etc...

The Zac Dawson medal has a nice ring, maybe we could give that to the worst and fairest? For the best and fairest (does a suspensionexcludean otherwise winner) maybe The Cazaly, just because we would rather lead the AFL than follow??

The Bob Davis Medal - to be awarded to the player whose performance during the ORFFA season was rated as 'fair dinkum unbelievable'
Sounds great Fitzy, Some suggestions for medal name: The Lethal Medal - after the legend who polled most votes without winning a Brownlow The Wales Medal - self explanitory The McCarthy Medal - after our fallen comrade The BAFORFFA Medal - too acronymy me thinks Reckon the Zac Dawson should go to the player who polls the least votes.
I think we should remove the 'fairest' reference. The best players aren't often the fairest ones as well.

+1 The Zac Dawson medal for the player with lowest average score across the comp having played more than 6 games for his team. No decent ideas for the MVP medal... Maybe the Relton Roberts medal?
Given that the ORFFA is based on Supercoach scores I think the award for the best player in the ORFFA should honour a past or current great Supercoach performer. From 1999 onwards Champion Data have had a Rankings Hall of Fame for the player during each home and away season that had the highest average score and played at least 15 games. From it's introduction Supercoach have used the Champion Data Ranking points to determine the player score. In the forteen seasons from 1999-2012 only two players have been the top ranked player for Champion Data ranking points/Supercoachin more than one season these players are: Nathan Buckley - 1999, 2000 and 2003 Gary Ablett Jnr - 2008, 2009 and 2012 In 2010 and 2011 Gary Ablett Jnr was the second ranked player in the AFL making him clearly the dominant supercoach performer over the past five years. I don't think Supercoach had started when Buckley wasthe top ranked player in 1999 and 2000 but I think Supercoach had commenced by 2003 when he won his last title for player of the year. Given this I think the performance of Gary Ablett Jnr is more relevant for ORFFA purposes. It is probably breaking with tradition to name a medal after someone who is still playing but as the ORFFA is only commencing it's second season we can create our own traditions. I propose that the the winner of the best player in the ORFFA be awarded the GAJ Medal. If we do go with this who knows, Gary Ablett Jnr might even be the inaugural winner.

All sounds good Fitzy, so forgive me if I am a little slow. Is it your plan to (a) go through the SC scores for AFL teams each round and award a 5, 4, 3......etc., for each AFL game and then apportion these points to the individual players in ORFFA teams, or (b) just award a 5, 4, 3.....etc. to each ORFFA team based on their SC scores? If it is (b), do you plan to award 5, 4, 3....etc. to each ORFFA match, or to each ORFFA team? Am presuming match here. As for the name of the award, happy with ORFFA Brownlow or Zac Dawson, or whatever the majority decides. However, you have gone down that path where you need some sort of limitation (time) on suggestions, then do a summary of the names put forward and then tally the responses (some of which are already in this thread). It would also be nice if you could post the weekly results right here. If, for whatever reason, there is an occasion where you are caught up and can't do it, suggest you deputize your mate from Wagga Wagga to fill in for that week.
Here is what I am planning on doing Going through each ORFFA match, and whichever player from either team associated with that particular match scored the highest individual score would get 5 votes, whoever had the second highest individual score from either team associated with that particular match would recieve 4 votes, etc... And details regarding name have been edited into the first post of this thread.
