    Last dance for 2017

    Round 17 (AFL 20) 4/8 - 6/8

The sixth year running for this theme. If only we'd trademarked the naming rights four years ago, we'd be moderately wealthy. Goofies are celebrated this week for good reason, they rock! http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-02-21/dualsided-gems

Glad the Commish has reset his alarm clock.

Warriors host the Blimps this weekend and the only good things will be the weather and the @Bearfly lobster pies. Getting very thin on the ground towards the end of the season (in all forms of fantasy). At least our ruckman registered one game.

DEF: Suckling, Tarrant, Johannisen, Harmes (Andrews)
    MID: Wines, Boak, Smith, Gray
    RUC: Simpson (Lobb OPP)
    FWD: Lambert, Patton, Kennedy, Butler
    I/C: Gibson, Douglas (Mcintosh)

You could be in for some disappointment then, @Bandit . The injury and selection gods have ensured that the Battlers will be unable to field a full compliment this week.

Blimps floating aimlessly towards their first non-finals year. Happy to get away from an increasingly bleak looking Guim (thanks to the rain) and to climes far warmer and Bandit's hospitality.

A relatively strong team named, with May returning and DBJ taking a rest. Bailey Dale retains his place over Nathan Hrovat, while the forward line and midfield remain unchanged in the same week for the first time this year. Lyons, Adams and Walters couldn't be considered for the game, but will travel with us for the sunshine.

DEF: Rance, May, Mackie, Astbury (AMT)
    MID: Newnes, Tyson, Coniglio, Atkins
    RUCK: Smith
FWD: Edwards, Hill, Brown, Dale (Parsons)
    I/C: Jack, Sinclair (Hrovat)

I'll have you know that Black Charlie's Opening is far from warm mate... it is also know to harbour a few of the common form of Tasmanian devils, you may be familiar with their less than common relative from the Cradle Mountain area.

I think the hospitality you seek is with our mate @TerryinBangkok ... and from what I have heard, the margarita's at the tiki bar are only surpassed by the grass skirts on display during the island luau.

He might even get you a cheap lei ;)

It is indeed Bandit. I was looking at the wrong name as I was typing, which, given I am in charge of Blimp navigation for the weekend's game, has unsettled the squad somewhat as the dirigible has had to bank sharply and change its course.

Yes, we travel to games in a dirigible as well. Just because it is apt.

The Cows head to Venus Bay to take on Fitzy's table topping Vultures. The team this week is so young we have had to travel with a lot of parents to chaperone the calves. The forwards are McLean (21 and a 1/2 years), Papley (21 yrs), Burton (20 and a 1/2) and Parfitt (19 and a 1/4) with Allison (also 19 and a 1/4) as emergency. A total of 100 games between the five of them.

    D - M Hibberd, J McGovern, J McVeigh, D Howe (B Williams)
    M - T Mitchell, N Fyfe, A Hall, S Menegola (D Prestia)
    R - S Jacobs
    F - T McLean, R Burton, T Papley, B Parfitt (J Allison)
    I/C - B Crouch, D Hannebery (N Newman)

Off to a bridge tourney so rather hoping there are no late outs as no internets for the next seven hours.

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 17 team

    In: D Zorko, J Lever
    Out: W Hoskin-Elliot (managed), J Gresham (omitted)

    Def: M Hurley, Z Jones, N Vlastuin, J Lever (H Himmelberg)
    Mid: D Zorko, D Heppell, S Grigg, D Zaharakis (J Hopper)
    Ruc: J Roughead
    Fwd: T Nankervis, J Steele, T Lynch, T Membrey(J Gresham)
    Inter: L Shiels, J Redden (S Johnson)

Cradle Mountain have made two changes for their Round 17 game against Nunawading – Jade Gresham who was a late inclusion as an OOP defender last week has been omitted, whilst mid-season recruit Will Hoskin-Elliot has been managed. With Zorko the magnificent returning from suspension to captain the club and Jake Lever returning from a hamstring strain the Devils were in the luxurious position of being able to manage one or two players and still be able to name four emergencies. The two players the Devils considered managing were state of origin representative Toby Nankervis who has tired as the season has progressed and WHE who has had a heavy workload in 2017, first of all with the Misfits and then with the Devils after being acquired in a mid-season trade. Given that Hoskin-Elliot played very little ORFFA football in 2015 and 2016 the match committee decided that this week was an opportune time to rest him. Whilst there would have been a benefit in resting Nankervis the benefits of building chemistry with ruck partner Jordan Roughead was considered more important, fresh off a best afield performance last week Roughead will start in the ruck whilst Nank will rotate between the forward-line and ruck.

With a win against Nunawading the Devils can set a new club record for most wins in a season, if the Wombats can defeat the Grasshoppers* the Devils can finish as high as fourth on the ladder which would earn a coveted home-final.

Edit: *Have replaced Cockatoos with Grasshoppers

Last week my son got married and sadly most of the team accepted his invitation rather than play. More of the same this week without the wedding part. Percentage booster coming up.

You are right @anthak I meant the Grasshoppers and knew that the Hoppers were in fourth position so don't know why I wrote the Cockatoos. Anyway, congrats on the Cockatoos doing something that certainly isn't mediocre - making the ORFFA finals for the second year in a row.

1370 odd without Danger leading into the finals. It's cost me a couple of draft spots though

However, it might have made some match-ups a little more clear. :)
