ORFFA Review Round 10 – Meat and Potatoes Round

Meat. Potatoes. Food for the soul. Well, OK, maybe not. But a passable meal nonetheless. Whose meals were most satisfying in Round 10? Let’s find out in this snack sized review.

    Spelunkers 1440 d Wombats 1017

Best: Spelunkers – Zerrett, Brayshw, Ashcroft and a whole heap of others. Wombats – Rozee, Sicily, Ridley.

Spelunkers move to 8-2, three games clear inside the eight with another big win and look to be headed for finals. Midfield absolutely imperious right now.

The injury-hit Wombats fall to 5-5 – good enough for 10th but concerning given they’ve lost four out of their last five. Hopefully some key personnel, especially midfielders, return ASAP.

    Vultures 1330 d Incorrigibles 1038

Best: Vultures – Dale, Parker, Docherty, Houston and the improving Wanganeen-Milera. Incorrigibles – Dunkley, Williams, O’Brien.

Vultures return to the winners list and square their season away at 5-5 with an important win over the Waikiks. Vultures defence superb across the board.

Incorrigibles welcomed Dunkley’s great score but may have cast a concerned eye towards Mr Prestia’s struggles and Mr Owens’ injury. At 4-6 still well in the hunt.

    Nuffers 1390 d Warriors 1019

Best: Nuffers – Warner, Serong, Horne-Francis, Clark. Warriors – Witts, Wines and Smith.

Nuffers find themselves at 7-3 and fourth on the ladder after a convincing win over the Warriors. If Callum Coleman-Jones is tonning up, one would suggest swabbing for substances may be in order.

The Warriors got great contributions from reliable sources in Witts and Wines. Cam McKenzie on the bench looks the goods while hopes would be high that Mitchell Hinge can return soon after a heavy knock saw him subbed.

    Uglies 1202 d Packers 952

Best: Uglies – Butters, Butters, Butters and Butters. Packers – Jaicos, McGrath, Ash.

After an ugly start to the season, the Uglies continue their ascent with their fifth straight win built on the back of an exceptional performance by Zac Butters. Lordy that was something.

The Packers have unfortunately fallen to second last on the ladder and may be casting an interested eye towards the MSD. Jaicos and McGrath were very good, but a few good players had down days across the squad.

    Battlers 1291 d Misfits 1200

Best: Battlers – Nash(?!), Smith, Witherden, Cerra. Misfits – Daniel, Taranto, Kelly, Briggs

Conor Nash got Meat and Potatoes round mixed up with Blue Moon Round, his 148 leading the Battlers to a hard fought win over the Misfits. Young Bailey Humphrey looks a real prospect.

For the Misfits, Caleb Daniel continues his great season, as does Tim Taranto. Kieren Briggs 109 was a welcome sight in the ruck.

    Lilacs 1240 d Devils 1189

Best: Lilacs – Moore, Bolton, Wilkie. Misfits – Steele, English, Marshall, Naughton

Lovely Banks are starting to turn their season around, recording a third straight win on the back of Darcy Moore’s absolutely stellar form (151). At 4-6, only a game out of the eight.

The Devils enjoyed more tons than their opposition, but also had a few players with down days. Jack Riewoldt may need a rest pretty soon.

    Beetles 1267 d Lefties 937

Best: Beetles – Scott, Lewis, Sheed, Green. Lefties – Simpkin, Zerk-Thatcher, Worpel.

Beetlemania for all as Dunsborough get their first win in style over the Lefties. Bailey Scott had a day out, as did the increasingly impressive Mitch Lewis. Well done to Dunsborough.

The Lefties had Simpkin ton up, Zerk-Thatcher nearly ton up and a couple of players get hurt. Hopefully Ladhams’ ankle doesn’t keep him out for too long.

    Chickens 1232 d Codpieces 973

Best: Chooks – Libba, Sheezel, Goldstein, Acres. Codpieces – Sinclair, McCrae, de Goey

Foul Bay roll onwards – 9-1 and second on the ladder. The old firm continue to get it done, but some youngsters (one in particular!) also showing plenty.

Iron Knob welcomed great games from Sinclair (160) and McCrae (145) but struggled elsewhere. Williams battled admirably in the ruck while Cadman will be a reliable scorer in the not too distant future.

    Grasshoppers 1302 d Cockatoos 1077

Best: Hoppers – McLuggage, Neale, Oliver, Newcombe. Cockies – Laird, Durham, Tuohy

The top of the table Hoppers cruised to another 1300+ score with six centurions and plenty of other decent scores. Finding cover for Clayton should be a reasonably simple task.

Gariwerd struggled a touch with injury and form. Laird as always did his bit, while Durham popped up for 107. Max Holmes’ injury a concern.

    Great write up Chris!

Spelunkers notch their 8th win, the same number of wins as the entire season last year.

Hopefully we can be competitive against the Association benchmark this week

Great stuff, Chris. The Battlers continue to do just enough to keep me out of the pointy end of the draft but not enough to be actually competitive. Lol

Thanks for the writeup, Chris. Great stuff.

I’m in Japan at the moment, just on a 2-week holiday. Fly back to Australia tomorrow.
I’ve eaten a lot of amazing food over here the last two weeks, but I actually had meat and potatoes for lunch today, left overs from yesterday’s lunch haha. We were invited to a friends place yesterday and her mum cooked up heaps of food for us for lunch, including an angus beef stir fry, and a roast potato & corned beef dish! She wouldn’t let us leave without taking the leftovers too, and they microwaved great for lunch today. Oishi!

    Totally missed this.
    Terrific stuff @chris88

Less said about my mob the better.
    Confident we are cursed.
Got absolutely nothing to do with our uncanny ability to recruit injury prone muppets.

Will work on the next review and have something up by weekend.
