ORFFA Round 14 (AFL Round 18)
    NAIDOC Round

July 7-14 is NAIDOC Week, with this year's NAIDOC Week theme being 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud'.

The theme sets out to 'celebrate the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.'

For us in the ORFFA, we look to celebrate the brilliant Indigenous players on our teams - and in the AFL - and the impacts they have on and off the field.

The NAIDOC website is here - www.naidoc.org.au - if you want to learn more.

Several games this week will have an impact on the Top 8 and finals. Top 4 spots are far from set as well.

Heading off to Gundagai this week. Bit depleted by injuries down back (no Gov or Hinge), which will not deter us from keeping on playing the promising kids who have got us to this ridiculously high ladder position:
D - Nic Newman, Alex Sexton, Brae Campbell, Mitch Owen (oop)
M - Josh Dunkley, Will Graham, Matt Johnson, Jaspa Fletcher (Nat Fyfe)
    R - ROB
F - Josh Treacy, ANB, Tom Papley, Zac Bailey (Brad Close)
I/E - Harvey Harrison, Bailey Williams (James Jordan)

Get off the beach and field a team sNoZ

I accidentally picked two emergencies on my defense line this week. I only just noticed.
What happens if one of my defenders misses?

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 14 team and progress score

Out: A Naughton (concussion), B Cox (omitted)
    In: D Heppell, S Mannagh

    ORFFA debut: Shaun Mannagh

    Def: N Vlastuin, D Heppell 80, J Battle 114, J Lever 76 (B Cox) 270/3
    Mid: J Steele 99, R Laird 100, S Pendlebury 49, J Hopper (S Sidebottom) 248/3
    Ruc: T English 85
    Fwd: D Zorko, T McDonald 69, J Cripps, S Mannagh 75 (D Wilson) 144/2
    Int: T Nankervis, R Marshall 107 (E Langdon) 107/1

At the 20 minute mark of the third quarter the

Cradle Mountain Devils at home are 854/10 Average 85.4

and trail @Tracey 's Wineglass Bay Packers 897/10 Average 89.7

    Still to play –

    Devils: N Vlastuin, J Hopper, T Nankervis, D Zorko, J Cripps
    Packers: S Collins, B Uwland, L Ash, F Callaghan, D Jones

The Round 14 game between the 7th placed Devils and 11th placed Packers looks like going right down to the wire. The last two players on the ground will be Cradle Mountain forward duo Dayne Zorko and Jamie Cripps attempting to chase down the Wineglass Bay target to enable the Devils to retain a positive win-loss record in 2024.

    Unofficial score

    Cradle Mountain Devils 1,292
    lost to
    Wineglass Bay Packers 1,299

The Devils vs Packers game certainly did go right down to the wire and we will need to wait for the rollover for the official result. My unofficial result is that the Packers had a seven point away victory 1,299 to 1,292. The Packers had the only two players in the game that scored 120+, ruck Darcy Cameron (131) and forward Ben Keays (123). Each side had four tons and Cradle Mountain’s top ranked player was defender Josh Battle with 114. Other CMD centurions were ruck duo Toby Nankervis (107) and Rowan Marshall (107) from the interchange and midfield mid-season recruit Rory Laird (100). @Tracey ’s Packers had a blistering start with all three players in action in the Friday night game scoring tons, ruck Cameron along with midfielder Josh Daicos (103) and defender John Noble (106) from the interchange. If my figures are correct the Packers fast start has proved crucial to them recording an upset road victory against the Devils.

Thanks Len. All 4 defenders played in the end.

@That KI Guy you won by 5 points! I think that’s two years in a row you’ve beaten me…

Two weeks ago I was still hoping to sneak into the finals. But then I’ve lost both games since to two of the bottom sides on the ladder!

Looks like a bit of a costly win for the Nuffers, with our slightly dysfunctional forwardline to become even more dysfunctional with an injury to Marshall and 3 game suspensions to Bedford and Cameron.

Running out of troops up forward.

Don't sweat this week's game @chris88 - the cows currently have only 2 playing defenders, and one of them may well be the swan's 23rd man.

Correction, I just checked the ladder and I should’ve said I’ve lost both games since to “the bottom two” sides on the ladder!

    After round 12, I was 5-7 in 10th spot, and teams 6th to 8th were all 7-5.
With three games to go, although unlikely, I still hoped to sneak into the top-8 by season’s end. Playing the two bottom teams the next two weeks could’ve helped my cause, but I’ve lost both games

Trading Laird in the mid season break hasn’t helped my team in the short term, and Touk Miller copping a season ending injury during last weeks game hurt my team a lot too.

I know realistically my squad isn’t really up to it at the moment, but I was still hopeful whilst it was mathematically possible!

Injuries really hurt our teams when you don't have cover, I suggest we adopt the AFL approach of a list of 38 :D

This league is so even that you can never bank a game, against anyone, in any week!
