<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]The blue moon was out in full force this weekend and was a sight to see, whilst the corresponding ORFFA round did not not disappoint either...

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]Not showing much respect for their opponent, Waikikamoocow decided they could afford to leave a few players home to save on airfares this week, finishing up playing 1 short in defence and with only 1 on the bench. Nevertheless, they seem to know what they're doing, pulling off an excellent victory playing 2 short, which moved them up to 3rd on the ladder. McVeigh (143) and Hannebery (134) dominated in the midfield for Waikikamoocow, with Tom Mitchell (130) running rampant up forward. Birdsville had 6 players battle with less than 65 points each, whilst Lewis Jetta (122) put in a game to remember, dedicating his performance after the game to his mate at Cradle Mountain who missed this week due to personal reasons.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]Nunawading travelled to Venus Bay this week and as promised, they performed their[span style='background-color: #fcfcfc;]Haka cum Spear Dance cum Electric Boogaloo dance, which ended with a blue mooning of the Venus Bay players just before the first bounce. Big Chris Dawes (67) was brought into the side late as a special inclusion for the mooning dance, and it was an amazing show of strength that had the Vultures off their game early. In the end, though, this Venus Bay team is very strong this year and was too polished to be troubled by the visiting team.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]After Whitsunday's late season surge, it has been left to these two teams to fight it out for the wooden spoon, with Lovely Banks's win here moving them up to second last. The coach of Darraweit Guim was quoted this week as being impressed with the Lovely Banks defenders, and they did play particularly well this week, scoring 415 between the back four and holding the Gundagai forwards to just 262 between the four of them; however it should also be noted that the Lovely Banks defence has leaked the most points in the league all season thus far, averaging a whopping 1268 points against per game as a team this season.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]These two teams are going in very different directions as this season unfolds. Wagga started strongly and are really struggling now, whereas Mt Beauty are finishing brilliantly after a slow start to the season. This was a free flowing game with not a lot of stoppages, resulting in the two opposing ruckmen, Leuenberger (21) (MBU) and Longer (13) (WWW), scoring just 34 points between them, whilst the forwards for both teams turned it on. If it wasnt for Kurt Tippett (165) up forward for Wagga, this would have been even more ugly.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]Gariwerd returned to their favorite camping ground in Iron Knob, and the familiar surroundings may have helped as the Cockatoos looked completely at ease on the still makeshift oval in the mine with the granite 50m arcs. Iron Knob unsuccessfully attempted to get Ablett up for the game, but as expected he was a late withdrawal, with youngster De Goey (44) coming in. Gariwerd finally had an actual ruckman to play this game, with Hickey (71) coming in and completely outplaying his opposition in Hale (39) in a completely unexpected win for Gariwerd. The loss for the defending premiers sees them in unfamiliar territory a game out of the coveted top 3.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]A ripping game saw the Spelunkers just miss out on pipping the top-of-the-ladder Chooks by just 12 points in a high scoring affair. Blicavs's (94) dominance in the ruck over poor Colquhoun (31) saw the Spelunkers mids see first use of the ball with all four of them tonning up, however they were the team's only centurians. There were four Foul Bay matchwinners in Duckwood (171), Heater (145), Vince (134) and Zeebull (134) who played better than the Spelunkers best, Keiran Jack (128), showing their class and powering the team to another W and pretty much shoring up top spot.

After a pre match crowning ceremony that saw the ORFFA's second commish handover to the third, Whitsunday continued their hot streak, winning their 3rd on the trot after starting the season with 11 straight losses! It has been an interesting reign for TiB, and after difficult beginnings that saw him take over a rudderless ship and be compared toKing Henry VIII for his role in reshaping the league, his organisation skills have set up this league to function outside of anyhierarchy, with most coaches participating and seeming to feel ownership of the Association. Well done TiB. Lenh's significant contributions to date have obviously not gone unnoticed as well and it seems we will continue to be in good hands for the foreseeable future, as long as we dont drive him to piss off like the first commish of the ORFFA. Anyway, the game that followed the ceremony was mostly underwhelming, with not one of Marble Bar's players topping 90 and Whitsunday's highlight was finishing on the realisation that their deepest desires are about to manifest!

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]The Packers defence does it again. This team has had the stingiest defence in the ORFFA all year, averaging just 1162 points against per game as a team, helping them to an impressive record of 10 and 4 to be sitting in the top 4. This has been a huge turnaround after finishing bottom 4 last season with only 4 wins. In this game, they completely dominated Cradle Mountain, keeping them to just 1048, led by Dempster (112) and Fasolo (100) in defence, but also scoring the 3rd highest ORFFA score of the round too with 1367, led by Sandi (145) in the ruck and other solid scores all over the ground. The Devils had several solid scorers as well, but none could step up to go huge and a few struggled as well.

<p style='color: #000000; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;]The Guim played well this week, but couldnt do enough against the rampaging Lefties who are playing really well and look to have a really strong side coming into the finals. Both teams had strong contributions all over the park, with Darraweit having a whopping 8 centurions, but it was the Lefties midfield, including Goldy (164) in the ruck that won this for them, scoring 627 between the 5 of them, compared to their opponent's respectable 469 from their 5. Both teams sit on equal points on the ladder in 7th and 8th spots and are probably most at risk of missing finals of all the top 8 sides, but both also look like good things to stay up there and both could even push for premiership glory if things go their way.

Agree regards the Wombats. Injuries have really hit teams hard at different times this season.

Evenness of the season means if you are missing a few, you're in trouble.

Bloody good game, and good win, Grav. Some real high quality scoring between the two teams.

Good idea Len, I do seem to recall that X reckoned this was the time of year to be planting spuds in much of Australasia. I never understood the relevance of such a comment when his team was based in Antarctica. If anyone should have a team based there surely it would have been ant(hak)?

why is that? Because of the first three letters of the name?

Nice job Ant. The mooning tactic employed by the Nuffers came back to bite us on the bum. The Antarctic wind off the sea at Venus Bay was soooo cold that it froze our players cheeks and it took a lot of spooning in the change rooms to enable them to take the field. After such a harrowing pre game experience the boys did pretty well. The Vultures were last seen picking at the bones of the our hopes for eighth place.

Cheers Ant love the run-home analysis.
It certainly does feel like we've got more players taking an early holiday than actually available for selection at the moment but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Good luck to the teams in the running for the 8, will still watch with interest.
