[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]Birdsville Battlers 1152 def Whitsunday Warriors 1018

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]With the Warriors safely loading 6 defenders onto the Hook Island Express Cessna for the short trip to the deep sou-west, officials were left red-faced as only one disembarked onto the Birdsville strip. While many ice-fuelled, paranoid central Queenslanders were pointing the finger at the Blackall Blackhole”, it appears more likely that the Whitsunday backline were mesmerised by the duty -free delights of Longreach International and failed to re-board following a routine fuel stop. Consequently, Johannisen's (101) donut stall was over-run with customers with Jetta (108) feasting heavily. With one arm, one ear and a dining table tied behind their back, the Warriors still managed to put up a blistering effort. JJK (148), Boak (122) and Wines (123) all dipped into the pot of gold after channelling the rainbow spirit to give the home side a bloody huge scare. A late flurry from Taylor (98), saw the Battlers scrape through for an un-deserving win.

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]The Packers continue to surprise many as they continue to get the job done with dogged team-footy. The Troggs can consider themselves unlucky as Grundy and Savage pulled out late and bench cover was lack-lustre to non-existent. In a stunning forward line shoot out, Lynch (100) and Faz (128) went hard for the Packers while Gunston (113), Merrett (96) and the Frenchman (90) returned volley. In an emerging Spelunker midfield, Jack (119) was left to carry the can as Blitz and Bont under-performed. The match was highlighted by the record-breaking ruck display of Sandi (91) who monstered 69 hitouts, though failed to crack the SC ton.

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]Riding a wave of unparalleled expectation, the Lefties rolled into this one with the confidence of a Carlton Football Club membership drive. True to form, the home side did everything in their power to let yet another slip away. With team selection being carried out by the neighbour's pet cat, Lefties defenders had a field day in the reserves. Plenty of stars were on show for the Codpieces with Hodge (130) returning in style while Gray (136) and Swan (112) proved their worth at their new club. Goldy (134) tried valiantly to will the Lefties over the line, but the loss of Lewis and the abysmal Schofield left a telling void.

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]Darraweit Guim Dirigibles 1314 def Mount Beauty Uglies 1243

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]A torrid affair that left spectators wondering how the Uglies could amass so many tons and not steer this one into port. The Uglies defence might sound like rock stars with names like Bunt, KK, Cannon and Bugg-wad, but they played like a tangle of roadies' bootlaces as none could top 55 points. The Blimps depth continues to be tested but with Armitage (134) and Newnes (117) finding sweet form at the right time, the home side manages to keep on motoring. The Uglies midfield all clicked in this one with Cotch (136) and Ellis (128) starring. However the Mullet (112) had the last laugh as he dined on an under-cooked Berger (ha, see what I did there? Champagne Comedy!)

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]With the Devils copping their fair whack of the injury stick, this matchup looked to be a close one on paper. Unfortunately for the Hoppers, the Devils decided to play diry and brought their trusty stick onto the ground and proceeded to belt the living shit out of every insect in sight. Stringer was knee-capped in the warm-up while Martin and Rocky were victims of the well-disguised 2x4 by quarter time. With the Hoppers on their knees, the Devils were able to coast to an easy win courtesy of stand outs from Shiels (124) and Heppell (106). Honourable mention to Brayshaw (107), who played out of his skin in demonic fashion for the visitors.

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]An imposing and clinical display from the Vultures left the Misfits feeling more violated than an umpire in a Will Minson reserves game. Laird (131) rode the blue moon while his team mates donned their witches' hats for a training drill. The Venus Bay mob had so many stars that they have been officially declared a separate galaxy (see BOG essay below). Heaven help the rest of us!

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]This midfield billing drew a crowd so bloody huge that the AFL are considering including this match-up in the regular AFL fixture during their annual Fark These Guys Are Friggin Good” tribute round. With an attendance swelling into six figures, extra seating was urgently brought in from the Minlaton RSL and the Inneston Gypsum Miner's Bowls club to cater for the throng. As subtly alluded to, Danger (188) and Fyfe (158) went berserker and stole just about every SC point imaginable from their counter-parts. The Chooks forward line proved a handful as Dahlhaus (125) ran riot while Tomahawk (107) chimed in off the bench. Unfortunately for the Cows, Harwood (14) and Gleeson (13) had a grunge flash back and showed too much teen spirit, killing off any hopes of a competitive score.

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]Gariwerd Cockatoos 1302 def Nunawading Nuffers 1249

    [span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]This mid-table clash staged as a must win for both sides to stay in touch with the pack. Blows were traded throughout the match as the Cockies strong midfield led by Lids (132) and Masten (111) was quelled by a dour Nuffers defence. Nunawading battled defiantly with Nicnat (152) bludgeoning Hickey in the ruck, while Lake (136) jumped back into action off the bench. In the wash-up, a Wallis (153) cameo dragged the home side through for a win.

[span style='color: black; background: #fcfcfc;]With Malthouse on the lookout for a new team to torture, the Lilacs deployed the perfect subterfuge by feigning zero talent and throwing Mick off the scent. Pyke (107) didn't get the memo and lazily fell into triple figures, but his efforts went largely unnoticed due to the miserable crowd attendances at ORFFA Sunday twilight games. For the Wombats, the stars aligned in their fixture this week ensuring a sub-par performance would get the job done. Buddy's (149) antics were a highlight amid a sea of mediocrity.

Top work grav, very well done indeed.

It was a one in 17 chance, but how cool was it see the Fyfe v Danger match up in Adelaide and in ORFFA. Top team those chooks - do not listen to what chief says about having no chance this year.

Stoked to have reached the top of the ladder and to have scored the most points so far this year! Finally some reward for all of those trades... haha.
Team is training up to hopefully reach the golden 1500 mark after a few 1400's in a row! Hopefully can keep this sort of form up and into the finals, long way to go and its a very tight race up top, the fact that one loss can drop me from 1st to 5th this far into the season is crazy :) !

Great write up by the way :) !

Great write up Grav.... Spelunkers tanking committee get a reprieve this week, the match from Birdsville might get me a top 10 MSD draft pick if the Wombats and Codpieces snatch wins from their opponents

      Great write up Grav.

Not looking forward to facing up to the Vultures this week. Feel like the Dirigibles might fall slightly short given some unfavourable matchups for key players - and the fact the Vultures are bloody good!

Let's give it a shot and see how we go I guess - good luck Fitzy, just no 1500 scores this week ... please ...

Grav, you have had an unlucky season mate and the Codpieces know as we have shared your fortunes! Injuries aside (and I have had many) one only needs to look at the points for and against of our teams compared with teams 3-13 inclusive to see we have had the short end of the straw. Aside from the dominant top 2 (Vultures are the real deal and the chooks keep clucking along) we could easily be 3 and 4 with a nicer draw :)

I pray the universe will right itself by the end of the year. Stay positive! :)

Venus Bay have moved past us in the premiership odds, Graeme.
And now that the Knob has Minno back (and Hanley) look out. GAJ to come back soon. Competition didn't build up quite enough of a lead in their absence.
The Blimps and your mob are not to be discounted as usual either. 5 teams doesn't go very well into the top 4.
