ORFFA Round 3 (Terry’s Round) Review
Wagga Wagga 734 def by Cradle Mountain 1346
Not so much a matchup as a massacre, the Wombats went in with two hands tied behind their back and blindfolds on, thanks to the AFL’s war on fantasy..
Fielding 6 donuts thanks to a plethora of Hawks and Bombers they were on a hiding to nothing, Libba (102) LDU (104) Bergman (116) and Shultz (117) did what they could.
The Devils Bentley liveried team rolled on, flexing their epeen by fielding 3 rucks.
Hopper, Pendles, Greene and English led the way while Naughton continued his pretty crap start to the season and is now in danger of being dropped with Jordan or Wilson potential replacements. You don’t want to be the weakest component in an iron horse.
Iron Knob 1010 defeated by Nareewillock 1285
With Sinclair, Soligo, Witts, Macrae and Thilthorpe all playing strongly the Knob was let down by 4 blokes who clearly didn’t read the teams list for the week and failed to show up, the team has a lot of promise but some training in professionalism wouldn’t go astray.
The Nuffers were led by Junior Home Factor with 153 and Serong with 142, no ruck and genuinely shit efforts from Rowell and Warner did nothing to alter the result as the newest incarnation of the Nuffers appears to be marching straight into finals
Junee 1361 defeated Venus Bay 1080
Junee’s GWS affiliation switched from a hindrance to a legup this week with all 5 centurions being current or ex giants. Tim Kelly’s pre draft note that he didn’t want to play anymore must have got lost in the mail or eaten by his dog etc, still wants to be paid though that will end at MSD time.
The Vultures also had 5 players score over 100, but too much was left to too few as is often the case in teams that have recently gone deep into drafts selecting elite but L plate players, short term loss, long term gain.
Dunsborough 1090 defeated by Gundagai 1431
Almost anyone facing the Hoppers of late goes in as underdogs, the Dung Beetles did not prove to be the exception. Big scores from Sheezel (144), May and Green would have warmed the hearts of fans and given cause for a toast, even after being toasted as a side.
Eight! players went over a hundred for the Hoppers led by McCluggage (156) and Neale while Simpkin and Cripps threw in shockers it did nothing to change the result, we can hear the bandwagons warming from 40kms away in Junee..
Gariwerd 855 defeated by Birdsville 1176
Without bothering to check for accuracy I’m going to confidently state that the Cockies fielded the youngest team this week, and the score reflects that. Touk Miller, one of their few old buggers was the only one to break 100. In a team that has heavily invested in kids though it’s easy to see the drafting was well done, as most played!
For the Battlers, Ryan, T De Koning and Smith starred, while Rowbottom, Andrews and Humphrey look to have been “managed” and subbed out or in at half time. Flanders is building back into the game and Matt Kennedy is delighting in showing the Giants and Blues what they let go..
Mount Beauty 1367 defeated Larrikin Lagoon 1095
A lazy 163 from Dan Rioli and 141 from Sam Darcy were the highlights for the Uglies, along with the return of Butters as the side looks to be charging towards another finals campaign.
The Lefties struggled to field a team, but grown men and women were seen wiping a teary eye as Sam Lalor smacked out 112 whilst the teams many Port affiliated fans were left celebrating Georgiades (also 112), SPP appears to be slowly returning to form while Burgoyne and Sinn had dog days.
Waikickamoocow 1180 drew with Wineglass Bay 1180
A match where the biggest cheers were heard at the pre-game, half time and post match “wine tastings”, I’m assured by participants it was necessary to drain the bottles to get the real taste, none of that sniff swirl and spit shit happening here, Terry will be proud!
Still a game was played and for the Incorrigibles Hinge, Dunkley, O’Suulivan and Treacy starred, honourable mention to Fletcher for 99.
The Packer's Ash, Hewett and Jones combined for over 35% of the team total score, Darcy Jones’ 160 a solid reason for the travelling side’s fans to celebrate.
Charlies Opening 1366 defeated Lovely Banks 1020
It was a case of Hogan’s Heroes for the Spelunkers, Jesse leading the way with 138 ahead of 4 other big scores, the other highlight being draftee Bice’s 124.
Wilkie(???) and Stewart led the way for the Lilacs, but the lack of a playing ruck and some underperformers put the game out of reach for the visitors.
