No, this is not where an ORFFL coach posts their team selection - although you can post it here if you so wish. No this is a post about one of the five O's of ORFFL; Orchestrating Proper Team Selection.

Now for many coaches team selection is just a case of finding the only fit players you have available on a line, chucking them on the field and hoping that they somehow manage to have the game of their life (looking at you Marco Paperone). For others it can be a question of how can I not play Kurt Tippett when Scott Thompson is sure to be a late inclusion?

Yet for others still, this time of week can lead to an either/or selection dilemma usually over who to play at D or F4. You have a number of players who could fill that role, and yet none of them fill you with supreme confidence in their ability to put points on the park (or confidence that they'll score more than your other options).

HORNSY'S MOST WATCHABLE GAME OF THE ROUND BESIDES YOUR OWN
    <img alt='' style='width: 600px; height: 219px;' src='/Portals/0/Users/215/23/4823/MALvsMBD.jpg[/img]

Let's look at this week's GOTR as an example. Anyone who's been paying attention to the machinations and spreadsheets of the last few years know that walesy's MBD have a shit-hot FWD line, and perhaps even a hotter poo midfield. Plenty of points, plenty of players. So who makes the team week to week?

Even with Rockliff and Sidebottom out for an extended period Mount Buggery have a plethora of options to choose from. Roughhead is obviously an automatic selection, Elliott is fast becoming likewise, while Bonts is a player everyone would like to have on their list in perpetuity. So at nominally F4 walesy had opted for the returning Mitch Clark playing at Geelong's fortress Kat Park.

I'm taking an educated guess that Clark get the nod over Cloke and Cameron due to both his preseason form and Geelong's well-earned and sizeable home ground advantage. And perhaps a bit of a gamble on McPharlin going to Hawkins rather than Clark at the opening bounce.

On the other hand though, Cameron sees himself playing at home and up against the Demons, who while impressive in their opening match, is a a record based on a sample size of one going against their history of being less than unimpressive over a number of years. To put it in simpler terms, Cameron vs Melbourne or Clark vs Freo?

Coach kash and his Magicians has a less contentious selection dilemma, but a somewhat perennial one in ORFFL circles. What to do with Matthew Wright if you have him in your team? Now mash has opted to banish Wright to the NEAORFFL for the foreseeable future for his Pittman-esque performance last week in favour of 2014's Rising Star Lewis Taylor. An entirely reasonable decision. And yet…

…Taylor is playing for Brisbane - a probable bottom 6 side, travelling to Melbourne to play North Melbourne - a probable top 6 side, no doubt filled with vengeance after being pantsed in Adelaide last weekend. Meanwhile Wright is playing for in Adelaide - scene of the afore-mentioned pantsing against Collingwood - another probable bottom 6 side. Now fantasy football prediction is not a science (least not the way I do it), but some kind of logic tells me there may be more points on offer in an Adelaide FWD line than a Brisbane one on the weekend. Which player can make the most of it is the pertinent question.

Just some of the things one may consider when picking their final line-up. FTR, I see the MBD getting up in this top-tier clash which of course means I'll be barracking for those plucky Magicians from Mallacoota.

Does anyone want the results of last week's games in these preview threads I'm doing or do others do as I do and feverishly look to see who won as soon as shit's rolled over?

      Same with the ladder?

Good to see these back H, appreciate the time and effort.

Getting a full team on the park is my issue atm so to have problems like those listed above is a bit foreign to me.

Think the writing's on the wall for Aaron Hall.

Well, that is certainly an in depth write-up!

Most of my selections are just on gut feel, Wright was arguably Crows worst player last week, and was lucky not to get dropped instead of Lyons who only got a quarter and a bit. That suggests to me that he has some chance to be green or red vest, so I'll put a line through him. It is annoying though when on the team sheet he gets listed in the Ruck division and tempts me again!

Brisbane also have the pig Rockliff out, so there could be a slightly higher average SC for Lions even in a loss. Also, got to get games into young Squizzy.

McVeigh, and possibly Dempsey and Crozier added to the squad this week - think I'm going to play Macca given his senior status and will cross my fingers he doesn't start singing 'see my vest'

It is only his FWD status that kept him on the list. Was meant to have been bog in the last NEAFL practice game according to one report so fingers crossed he gets another run. Or is there something else that you are alluding to?

Nah, I just think he's been passed over for 2 rookies in Miller and Garlett.

      Also, I don't rate him.

I must admit H, I used to enjoy the weekly review when you used to do it - miss it terribly, would've been nice to have one this week considering Coulta managed to win a round 1 game!!!

Mitchell and Mzungu both out effectively means the end of Queenstown's hopes of getting their first win for the season
