And so we move onto part two of this ongoing series of previews designed to be the teasing stallion to your upcoming fantasy ORFFL horse. While I have - some - of you here though, now''s as a good a time as any to bring an important issue to attention; the 2013 fixture. It''ll run much like last year''s with rivalry rounds situated in rounds 1, 10 and 14. But instead of just a repeat of last year''s, we''re throwing it open to you all to nominate who you think were/are your biggest rivals going into season 2013.
And please don''t all pick Sarah Island just because you''d like to cave in my smug, Jar holding, meaty-loafy face. Comments below plz.

COULTA COULDABEENS
Made the finals in their debut year and won as many games as they lost. No mean feat with two forfeits in those 18 games. All things being equal I''d consider that a relative success.
Since then there''s been the expected retirement of Scarlett, the unexpected death of John McCarthy and the somewhat expected unretirement of Chins Brogan.
What''s Working:
Coulta''s defence is still a powerful, powerful unit. Arguably equal to that of Torrumbarry and Queenstown in top-end talent, but having an edge over those two clubs in unparalleled squad depth.
Scotland (100),Enright (94),Reilly (92) and Burgoyne (82) may be decidedly veteran, but with AJ (65), Laidler (68), Hombsch (68), and A.Kennedy (53)as understudies, a smoother list transition in the back half you''ll be unable to find.
And despite Zaharakis'' (88) promotion to the midfield, the forward line combination of A.Walker (79),Wright (89),Schulz (81), and QStick (68) is not the worst going around in the ORFFL. It certainly helps that they have one Jeremias Cameron (66) waiting in the wings; a genuine superstar in the making.

What''s Not:
The ruck department at the Couldabeens is a bit of a mess to be frank. West (76) needs to go 85+ to get to somewhere approaching par, and Coulta needs to have his Geelong partner in Vardy at their club. Which could be rather tough considering that word on the street is that he''s likely first round pick in the upcoming draft.
I mention this because Coulta is also severely lacking in midfield depth - and it''s a tough ask to fill both needs with quality in a single draft. By my count the Couldabeens only have 4 bonafide midfielders on their list that will play in 2013 currently. Yes, Priddis (110) is a gun, and yes, Ebert (100) has been a revelation in the past year. But after Zaha and Cassisi (82) - an expiring M4, the cupboard is pretty bare without cutting into other lines top ends.
Which is a problem.

What Do They Need:
With an ageing list and an absence of midfielders, the equation is pretty simple. Get young talented midfielders. If Oliver Wines is around at their first pick watch the coach of Coulta jump on that shit.
Could do with trading out a defender too, but the whispers are that the coach of Couldabeens is not entirely willing. Despite the market being there.
Best 15:
D: Scotland, Enright, Reilly, Burgoyne
M: Priddis, Ebert, Zaharakis, Cassisi
R: West
F: Wright, Schulz, Walker, Q Lynch
I/C: Redden, Laidler

POPANYINNING PYRITE
Narrowly missed the finals, finishing just under .500 for the season. The pick-up of Duffield (92.84) midseason added a genuine premium to the Pyrite defence, fortune that continued to flow with half-back competition Greg Broughton changing clubs.
Seeking to ride this wave of club-changing fortune, Popanyinning traded out beloved veteran Lenny (102.32) for Beamer Moloney (67.73/99.27); banking on a return to his earlier scoring prowess with his move up north.
Well, you''d hope so.

What''s Working:
Popanyinning''s midfield remains a powerhouse of the ORFFL, Boyd (113.23), Swallow (109.36), Shuey (103.19), and Rich (90.8) a quartet of point scoring domination. With the afore mentioned Moloney and a still-improving Cunnington (78.35) riding shotgun on the interchange bench, the Pyrite aren''t suffering from a lack of potency in the middle of the park.
While neither Popanyinning''s defence or attack is in the elite bracket, they remain decidedly solid. New position classifications have certainly worked in their favour for 2013; Wright (73.95) becoming a handy D4/5 option and De Boer (85.43) and Double J Jenkins (67.91) helping push Kosi (60.32) out of a starting gig in the forward line - thank the heavens.

What''s Not:
They may have 3 options in the ruck department, but they''re all decidedly sub par. Neither Jenkins, Clarke (74) or Lobbe (70.78) are genuine first choice rucks in their respective AFL teams and that lands the Pyrite conceding 20-30 ppg to the better sides in a single position. Not cool.

What Do They Need:
Depends really. If they''re vying for a flag in the next 2 years, Reid/Lobbe/Clarke/Jenkins need to breakout in a big way this coming season, or the Pyrite need to trade to fill the scoring holes at R1 and F4 - Cox could make a big dint in both.
If on the other hand they feel like their flag will come later, probably better to trade out the likes of Boyd and Richards for players that will be around when they''re contending. Classic P_L''s choice situation looming.
Best 15:
D: Duffield, Grima, Richards, Wright
M: Boyd, Swallow, Shuey, Rich
R: Clarke
F: J Riewoldt, De Boer, Betts, Jenkins
I/C: Cunnington, Moloney

QUEENSTOWN QUOLLS
Another team that missed the finals by a whisker, but the big story out of Queenstown wasn''t on the field but off it, trading out premier MID Dane Swan (126.22) for a solid up and comer in Howlett (83.63), and exciting FWD Howe (79.14) in the September trading period. At that point in time it was my sincere belief that the Quolls were travelling down the path of youth and new development.
I was clearly misguided though, as when the trade period reopened Queenstown proceeded to ditch young defenders Hibberd (73.85) and Trengove (68.5) along with their first round pick for veteran Sam Mitchell (110.76). Regarding their list management strategy, colour me confused (which I think is a shade of turquoise if I''m not mistaken).

What''s Working:
Despite offloading Hibberd and Tengove, Queenstown defence remains absolutely loaded. Gibbs (95.27) moves back to his rightful home of the HBF, Grimey1 (88.29) remained largely uninjured and thus flew under the radar in 2012, while Grimey2 (77.89) fresh from some semi-legal blood magic ritual is at this stage not hospitalised. Chris Yarran (67.67) surely can''t have a year as bad as his last, while big Charlie Dixon (73.50) shined as a CHB in 2012. Add to that Alberton escapee Ben Jacobs (57.79), and what you have is a recipe for a back half blitzkrieg.

What''s Not:
The Quolls forward line, while substantially better than it was going into season 2012, still lacks premier talent. Bringing in Howe from the mainland back home was quite a coup, but with Brown (78.15) close to retiring it''s up to a cadre of unproven forward pockets and 2nd string ruck-forwards to bring home the bacon. Being a long suffering Carlton supporter, I remain highly skeptical of this plan.

What Do They Need:
Motlop (61.57) to move up to a wing and improve his scoring by 20 odd ppg would certainly help, as would Brown having a swan song year. Curnow (72.89) scoring more like little used Jackrabbit David Ellard (85.40) would also help cover what is a pretty weak M6 at this stage.
Warnock (82.50) getting a full season on the park as 1st choice ruck and lifting his average by 10 ppg wouldn''t go astray either.
Best 15:
D: Gibbs, J Grimes, D Grimes, Yarran
M: Watson, Mitchell, Jones, Howlett
R: Warnock
F: TheHoff, Howe, Brown, Hampson
I/C: Mzungu, Curnow
